March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

OK.... so i signed on about 4 hours ago to do my birth story, and then digs decided he needed his 30,000th feed of the day... :dohh: But here i finally go...

Ok. plot thickens. I just started to type out my birth story in detail..... but i cant do it :nope: so i will type this really quickly.........

It was a horrible experience and the short hand version is that digs was very distressed to the point of no HB being located during contractions. After a 30hr labour during which alot of alarms were pressed, we tried forcep delivery but it didnt work and so the surgeon performed an emergency c-sec. Digs was non responsive, blue, limp and had to be resuscitated when he came out. The silence lasted a long time.

When he did finally make a noise all of the theatre staff started smiling, clapping etc and the surgeon said afterwards that if they had tried forceps for any longer - it might have been a different story

I typed that super fast to get it over with and dont want to read it back. so i hope it makes sense.

Ive also put a spoiler wrap on it for those who dont want to read about labours which dont go to plan.

Ok, so as you can prob tell talking about it isnt my fav thing. But as long as i dont think on it then im fine.

and digs - George - is AMAZING. he is absolutely PERFECT..... even if he does tire me out with constant feeding :haha: He is such a cutie too.... total mini-me of his daddy.

ANDDDDDDDDDDDD he was only 7lb15oz.... at 12 days overdue! can u believe it? no toddler for me afterall :haha: Gutted thats not alot of weight loss though

other ladies who had a c-sec.... did they stick you on loads of meds afterwards? Im on codeine, para and ibu and it makes me feel  i wonder whether to keep taking it as im not in pain.... but if i stop, the pain may be unbearable  who knows.

anyway. sorry this post is sooooo lame but ive not had more than 5 hours sleep total since monday :( Hoping i can get on here tomo and be a bit more my old self.

CUPCAKE- soooooooo happy that u finally have baby Rupert..... i thinks its such a smashing name :) :hugs:

right ladies..... digs is lurking for another feed and my ear has just gone deaf.... will catch you all tomo :hugs:

Missed you all x

:hugs: Ive been checking these threads daily to see news of you & Digs :hugs:

I think this proves the point about how it really doesnt matter how your LO arrives, natural or assisted.....The main thing is that they arrive safely :baby::cloud9: Thank goodness the Doctors know when they need to act quickly

Im really am so sorry for your scare though, I went through the same thing with my DS1 ~ Although I was put to sleep, as it was such an emergency to get him out ~ No time to wait for a spinal :nope:

Thank God your lovely little Boy is Ok & doing what boys do best.....eating lots! :winkwink:

Hope you heal quickly :flower: With regard to the painkillers, just keep taking them, to keep the pain at bay.....You wont need to take them forever (mayby a week or two) But its important to keep as comfortable as possible

Anything else you may wanna ask, im here, im a csection pro, with 4 'under my belt' ~ so to speak! :haha:

So cute, WT! Where do they normally sleep right now?

So cute, WT! Where do they normally sleep right now?

They currently share a bassinet next to our bed. However, if one of them wakes up, I often bring him into our bed so he doesn't wake up brother. I'm such a pushover. Pretty soon,we'll have to use separate bassinets.

WT / so cute! We put Zack in his big cot earlier just do he wasnt balanced on the changing table and it looked huge.

I never seem to stop feeding. DH and I haven't slept at the same time since he was born, surely we should be doing a bit better by now? His poos suggest he's getting plenty of milk, as does low weight loss but I seem to feed for at least an hour (/sometime 2 hrs) at a time. We can't go on like this for much longer.

FT :hugs: you must have been so scared. What a horrible thing to go through. I wouldn't be able to think of what happened either. Am so glad he is here safely and giving you lots of cuddles to help you get over it. :hugs:

WT what cute pics!!! Your boys look adorable, if a little lost in their cribs.

Lozza, I was doing very long feeds too, and have had daily phone calls from the breast feeding support lady because I was struggling so much. Over past day and a half I have been doing a variation on switch feeding which basically gets them a lot the filling milk quickly and allows for shorter feeds and longer time between feeds. It involves keep switching them over from side to side during feeds after they have finished the long gulps (at 5-10 mins) until they want no more. I was a bit cynical, however we have just had the best 24 hours with nothing longer than a 25 min feed, nothing shorter than a 2 hour gap, and she has only woke up once tonight and last night. Could be worth looking into? :hugs:

BTW, has anyone got one breast which is noticeably bigger than the other? I noticed last night and now I feel like a right freak!

My Grans are visiting in the morning meeting Dharma for the first time. I hope they are nice about her, I might cry otherwise!!!

Fr, I'm sorry you had such a scary experience but at least George is here safe and well. I know you probably feel a bit sad a out your birth experience though (I knw I do) but George will make up for it, even if it takes time to come to terms with what happened.

Loo, I'm glad your having a better time.

Lozza and Kie, I can't help as A seems to have a super latch (she even corrects it herself) and I haven't had any troubles but she des fuss a bit at the nipple so I sometimes find I have tmwait for a little while longer Thani thought to get her to open her much fully. She will latch on with a partially closed much but ths just doesn't work as well.

AFM, we have our 12 day weigh in tomorrow. I'm really hoping she's put on some good weight as she'd lost 8% at 5 days. She is a chubber baby but I really hoe everything's ok. I also have ,y first visit for the HV tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous about what she's gng t ask.

Thanks loo - is that the nct helpline you rang? I'll try that tactic tomorrow. My right boob is def bigger than my left, and more solid / think that's why I'm having problems with it. Both sides currently rival katie price anyway!

ft- so sorry things didnt go as planned. but praise God he is ok!!!! :hugs:

Lozza,mi don't know which one Loo used but there is a national breast feeding line yu can call,,also La Leche League and there are some others. I've got a handout somewhere from the hospital with them all on. I'll post some tomorrow when I'm not in bed with sleeping baby on my shoulder!

Lozza, it's someone from Stepping Hill that has been calling me, and I obviously needed extra support, so she has been giving me a quick call every morning to see how we are getting on. This switch feeding is the only thing that has worked properly, though I found the fact that EVERYONE'S advice was different really stressed me out, so I won't be offended if you don't want to look into this! :haha:

I never thought I would find it as hard/tiring/draining as I do, and feel so much better for the shorter feeds. I also found that Dharma was sucking on me as a dummy and not taking in any milk so 2 nights ago I introduced a dummy that she soon spits out, but it is just enough for her to get soothed by herself rather than my breast.

Crickey, she has been asleep for 30 mins, so I guess I should try and get some too! Night lads. xxx

Ft.....:hugs:...sorry about Georges traumatic arrival but the main thing is that he arrived safely and in your arms at the end of it. Those memories will fade away and be replaced by amazing times with your little boy :flower:...so pleased for you. Find your feet and we will see you back in full force before long :happydance:

Wt....lovigg your boys in their cots...i am sure Mia would look equally teeny tiny ha ha. What weights are they now? They look fantastic...i know you are bf'ing...but still exclusively with two? Or topping up? :flower:

Glow...not long now til induction...though i.reckon you will do.an 'FT' and go naturalky just before:happydance:

BF ladies....i cant really offer advice...i think Mia just has a great latch...chows down in 20 mins max for a feed...sometimes only 10-15...then goes for up to 2 hours. Last night was a weird one....she seemed very windy so popped a little infacol and feed...slept from 11pm til 2byt very fidgety and restless sleep then woke for feed and change and down.til gone 7...so a 5 hour stretch but again not as 'settled' i guess. I slept through her gentle winges...no crying. I think.she may have drunk.too fast in last fedd of night and gulped a but :-/....mmmm

Oh i always feed from one breast cos she seems to.get enough that way..not sure i ned to switch.

Joanna...i use the disposable breast pads but dont leak much during day...night is worse. I gad some reusables given to me but urs one more thing to wash. Have 2 boxes of disposables to use up first

Ladies who had vaginal birth...how long did you bleed for? Mine has been very very light since day 7 ish but still a little there and every so often a big spurt if blood just when i think.its stopping...i am day 11 today.

Mitch I'm the same with bleedng I'm day 17 and my bleeding is basically done, but every so often I'll have a bit more heavier red loss, and I have a little bit of brown old blood through the day, bit like the end of a period. Its about the same as I had last time I think by week 4 it was totally done, and then VERY unfairly given I was BF I had my first period week 5 pp :( so cruel!

Mitch, I'm the same in that I tend to only feed from one side per feed. I'll only swap over if she's really not showing signs of stopping after 30 minutes. Your breast will never truely empty so keeping them on one side drains the breast tissue, which is very good for your ducts and prevents blockages and mastitis. Even when you feel empty though milk will still come out at a slow rate. If they like a fast flow though then they will get fussy at that point. Anyway, F will have one breast at 70% of her feeds I'd say. Its only when she's really stocking up that she wants a top up off the other one.
Pumping for the first time last night I got 5oz in about 15 mins, and babies are more efficient than pumps, so I guess she's getting about 6oz a feed, give or take.
WT your boys are adorable!! :cloud9:

Well, about to attempt leaving F with OH for a few hours! I'm leaving 5oz of milk behind, but no idea if she'll take to the bottle! I'm sure OH will manage he's a pro-daddy! :haha:

Thanks emera....was a little worried about the bleeding...most the time its light and brown so i am not concerned. Think.i am definately ready to ditch the surfboards and size down to normal pads :haha:

I will be interested to see how much i.can pump and therefore how much milk Mias getting. Greedy girl has chugged down a 10 min feed at 7:20 then anoher at 9am....20 mins later promptly chucked up some of it...looks alot but sure its a drop in the ocean compared to how much she is retaining. Her eyes are obviously too big for her belly :happydance:

Mitch we have the same problem with the eyes too big thing... And the chuck up that comes with it! :haha:

Well, Astrid has just had her weigh in and on day 12, she has put on 300g (10.5oz) which I'm both amazed and really excited by! Yay! :happydance: Also, the MW decided to sign us off so we're just down to HVs now.

I think the weigh gain is down to the fact that she was cluster feeding all night last night though - every 90 minutes for a 30 minute feed then 30 minutes to settle and then 30 minutes sleep. I an wrecked today!

FT - hun that sounds flippin horrendous. so glad he's here and you're ok...the memories will fade i promise and George will massively help with that - they're worth everything in the world aren't they... :hugs: c-sec meds...i had ibuprofen (up my flippin BUM in theatre!!!!) and came home on paracetamol/diclofenac - took both for 7d then para as needed (helped my boob pain!!!). its so good to have you back...

switching boobs - i was losing my mind a bit at frequency of feeds so decided to offer both at each feed and was amazed at how much more he'll drink despite looking milk drunk...think the faster flow on the 2nd boob really fills them up... worth a try xxx

ms crow - how you doing hun??? :hugs: did edith get checked out for tongue tie??

loo - sounds like a dummy was absolutely the right thing...your gran's will love Dharma i'm sure!!!! :baby: :hugs:

mitch - you're a BF queen!!!! who'd have thought you were a bit non-plussed about it - maybe the lack of pressure/expectation was exactly what you needed!!!! Mia is so flippin gorgeous!!! xxx

FT - Congratulations! Sorry that you had such a traumatic experience. I can remember my emergency sction when Ana become stuck and distressed. Such a frigthening experience, even though she was born fine, she didn't cry. The silence was absolutley dreadfull (((hugs)))

In regards to the pain medication, if it's making you feel ill speak to your doctor or midwife about getting some different types. Personally I didn't find my section painful enough to require the co-codamol, however I took the anti-inflamatories to help with the swelling. Arnica tablets are great for any bruising and a couplke a tablespons of sea salt in your bath water helps with keeping the scar clean.

Still very itchy and sore, the hives have now travelled the entire length of my legs and arms and they even on my ears. They doctor has done me a prescription for some steriods that I have to pick up later. I'm trying not to let it get me down.

Jessica is still very congested with her cold. I just wish I could tell her to blow her nose, poor thing.

I hope everyone else is well. I'm currently considering using the husband's belt sander on my stomach.

Awww thanks ladies - you girls are the best :hugs:

We are about to take George out for the first time.... to see his great-nanny! :) Everything is ready... apart from me! :dohh: Just bought some cute baby boy stuff online too which should arrive tomo  Yup... all blue and predictable

Switching boobs - i just switch for every feed, but my right boob is DEFO bigger. and last night was gross as milk was just leaking evvvverrryyyyywhere! Had a good night though as george woke up twice for a feed  he seems very content today.

lozza - wow youve hardly had a wink.... hope you get some rest soon hunni :hugs:

thanks for info on pain relief ladies. think i will start just taking the ibuprofen stuff :)

ANY WORD FROM GLOW? her LO must be about to make an arrival.... i can feel it

:hugs:

Just reading through all your posts and it sounds like all of you are doing amazing and BF champions

WT - your little guys are gorgeous!

Mrs Crow - hope you and Edith are well....have you heard anything yet? :hugs:

Well no baby for me yet :brat:  he is SUPER SUPER quiet today...I would be worried if wasn't going in tomorrow. I'm going to find it strange going straight to FF...I've never done it before and last night lying in bed I kept wondering how the hell do I work out how many oz bottles to make up :dohh::wacko: I'm spending today getting moses baskets in place etc so I don't have to do anything when I come home...or rely on OH :winkwink:
Noticed weather for next week  looks like he might get the wear out of his bear suit after all!
