March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

we have mostly huggies and they are fine for us. the pampers are good too.

im using johnsons nursing pads at the mo and they are lovely but expensive. not sure what going to do when finish....

congrats vitfa!

i only have 2 nursing tops, one is great and the other is awful. the awful one is so obviously a nursing top i refuse to wear it outside the house.

think i might try and get a nap in before supper today. feeling a bit tired today...

I hate Huggies too, and a friend gave me a box of 200 as she didn't like them either so I've got loads spare. Laura i would pass on but suspect by the time we have a NW meet up A will be out of the first size?

We've had an eventful morning, well whole day actually. Z had a rash appear yesterday which midwife thought might be heat rash but suggested GP if it didn't go when he cooled down. Still there this morning so we went to go who was pretty vague and referred us to the paediatric unit at the hospital. So we got there at 12 and finally left around 3. He's fine, they think the rash is just a normal newborn thing (long scary name but essentially harmless and will clear itself in a week) but also swabbed his cord stump as it suddenly bled today so they wanted to check for infection. We've got antibiotics just in case but don't want to use unnecessarily. Poor thing has been prodded about today by 2 nurses, a GP, sho and consultant but he's been very good. Prob cos he's tired after being up most of the night, pest!!

Thank god for bf, FIL just arrived to pick up mil (staying for dinner first though) and conveniently Z woke for a feed so I've run upstairs! I've got a few bf tops with discrete holes, otherwise I've tried today with a vest top under a normal top. I pull vest down under the boob and other top over so only my boob is exposed.

Gotta go, puke and poo to deal with!

Huge apologies for not keeping up with this thread :dohh: I've just had day after day of visitors

Lozza - please post me a link back to your birth story I've tried to find it but can't :winkwink:

FF is going great but obviously I can't get on here one handed :dohh: so hence lack of time to post. Jacob is my most chilled out baby so far. He hardly ever cries unless hungry or nappy change and that's it :happydance: so far so good :winkwink:

OH is off to pick girls up in a minute so I might be quiet for a few days but I am always reading

Thanks for the thought Lozza but you're right, my toddler baby will be out of size ones all too soon. :(

I'm sorry you've had such a stressful day too. I hope you're bearin up ok as its horrible whenever there's anything wrong with rue LOs. I know how I felt when we had all the trouble after she was born. So, :hugs:

Glad the bf is going well. Glow, glad Jacob is ding wel.

Xx

Lozza...glad Z is ok.....must have been worrying

Glow...which formula you using? Powder or ready made liquid? I bought cow and gate though not using....as yet

M has skinny little legs...no chub there yet:flower:...hence why huggies probably no good for her...they seem to have larger leg holes. Loo...i think pampers size 1 are slughtly on large size for M but work ok....i probably could have gone micro...she may getting more leakage than usual....hmmmmm. aaaah well they work ok for us. Definately changing the hggies to pampers

HV tomorrow morning..hoping they weigh M...i reckon she has broken 7lbs:happydance:...bless her

Huggies newborn are too big for A too, as she has skinny legs. Pampers newborn seem much better fitted for the little-legged ones. I can't believe some of you are using size 1 already! We tried with A, but they slid right off. She'll be in newborn size for a while yet, I think. It's too bad, as newborn seem to be more expensive than other sizes.

Mama mouse congrats! Can't wait to see pics!
Vita also huge congratulations!!! ::happydance:

E seems to be outgrowing pampers newborn size and we have tons. My mom bought them for a game at my baby shower and I wish she had left them in the original box so I could exchange them for size 1's. We also used Huggies newborn and they seemed great also. E is very long and skinny, but has chubby thighs.

C-section mamas- I think I might have overdone it the past few days so I'm trying to relax more today. I drove to a dr. Appointment and carried E in her carseat. Is that too heavy to be lifting this early? I was definitely feeling more pain last night, I had to take pain meds.
Were any of you told how long there is a weight restriction?

Definitely not enough sleep last night. Went to bed at 10:30 up from 12:30 til 2:30, up again from 3:30-4:30, 6:00 for another half hour, then woke at 8:30. I knew the past few nights had been too good to last!

Crowned - All the new Zellers have nursing rooms! I was really surprised about it.

Huge congratulations Vitfa gorgeous name
Well weighed myself 8lbs to lose put on 2st 4lbs so pretty happy with that. Cancelled my 6 week check today as I was so exhausted but hoping to see doc tomorrow or Tuesday to see if I can start going to yoga.
I found Asda little angels rubbish too, tried Huggies but they leaked a lot, pampers fit well but I think they smell really plasticy. I’ve heard from lots of people that Lidl nappies are brilliant? Might give them a go.
Lozza what a stressful day glad z is ok, horrible having to go in, I had to go in with Seth and I hate how your left sat worrying for hours.
When bf I wear a vest top under main top too,so when I pull main top up vest top covers my belly.

looley, do you pull the vest top down under your boobs then? I don't quite get it...

Srry did n't catch up doing OH bday stuff but had the HV here earlier. Nice as its the same one I see for Roh so know her, she's fine if a bit traditional. Anyway all pleased as F has gone from 8lb9oz at 2 weeks to 9lb9oz at 3 weeks (and a day!) !! she's gettting chubby bits, so cute :). Right got to go sort cake before OH goes out (so jealous:( )

Hi Lads...

We're using huggies/pampers interchangeably and have always used size 1's - didn't realise there were newborn ones!!! :haha: :dohh: good job N was a chubster.

BFing tops - like the idea of vest/cardi option with a scarf - i've just been using normal tops and pulling them up but covering my tummy with the mountain of pillows i need...probably not that useful for BFing outside the house!!! :haha:

Vitfa - sorry to hear your birth didn't go to plan - glad you have her now and the hugs and snuggles are very medicinal i promise... big hugs :hugs:

FT - think elective c-sec is absolutely the right thing for you hun. I'm going down that route too. No need to ever have to deal with that again. Hope you and G doing well :hugs:

Glowie - day after day of visitors is not so good but glad Jacob behaving for you!!! lots of love :hugs:

Mummymouse: :baby: :hugs: so happy for you hun xxx

Sorry to everyone I've forgotten, no sleep, busy day combo...

AFM both of us bath/showered and both fed by 9am...i'm getting better at this!! Had lots of snow here today but still managed to have our NCT meet up which always makes me feel a bit more normal... N managed to do his first properly explosive poonami (I now know what you mean!) whilst everyone was here - had to sacrifice a vest and cut him out of it as it was covered in orange rankness that I couldn't quite cope with smearing over his head...and his second bath of the day. :dohh:

Anyway..tea's in the oven, full (now clean) baby snoozing in his basket, dogs walked, house cleaned - what a good wife!!! xxx

EDIT: emera wow!! that's good growth hun!!! well done to you and F xxxx

Stump fell off and we only have 6 disposables left so we're trying out the cloth nappies. They're supposed to be adjustable "birth to potty" It also says 8-36lbs so he's right on the low end. They look huge on him! Overnight we had a leakage but he also didn't insist on a changing all night long. And he slept from midnight to 5:30 am! So maybe that's a win? We're trying out different ways of arranging the liner to see if we can make them leak proof.

We started using a pacifier. I said I wasn't going to but this kid does not settle without something in his mouth. My husband is calling it "Ze Silencer" in a German accent. It really works; Fussy baby goes to sleeping baby in seconds.

I think I'm option D on FT's list. We've only gone out for shorter trips so he's slept most of the time. We did go over my friend's house where we had to change three diapers and give a feed. While it is legal in my state for mothers to breast feed in any public or private location the mother and baby are allowed to be, people don't do it unexposed. There are many stores that have nursing rooms and many mothers use feeding covers. Even my friends expect me to cover up when they're around. I'm not good enough at it yet to be able to get the perfect latch without seeing him and using two hands. I can cover up after he's latched but until then my nipple is out in the breeze.

On Saturday I have to spend several hours out of the house so I'm sure I'll have to figure out the feeding in public thing....

I've been wearing a lot of button down shirts (Men's ones I picked up at GoodWill) I'm also wearing maternity pants still so I have the stretch band covering most of my belly if I have to lift up my shirt. I bought a nursing tank top with built in bra but I haven't worn it yet as it's gotten cooler.

Has everyone's discharge stopped? My is light but it is still annoying and smelly (not infection smelly just old blood smelly) I can't wait for it to stop. I think I still have one stitch left. I was brave enough to touch last night and only found one pokey stitch end. It's where most of my irritation is coming from, I wonder if it is the cause.

Oh this whole mummy thing is such a glamorous job. I'm often sitting around with a boob hanging out, the other day I was nursing and looked down at my hand and saw a yellow smear of poop on it. Yesterday my hubby pointed out the spit up on my shirt....

Emera thanks again for Baby Sense. I've been reading it while feeding and it seems very helpful.

Crowned - I push one side of the vest top under my boob, and pull my jumper up completely - that way my stomach is covered by the vest top and the boob pokes out the middle.

Kym - still bleeding here 11 days on although its definitely slowing. And I can still feel at least one stitch (to be honest I didn't ask how many i had). The midwife loosened one last week which she said looked really tight, it was pulling the skin and was so painful to sit down! Hurt like hell when she did it, but instant relief.

My friend who struggled with the Huggies said Aldi own brand are really good.

Zack's currently sitting in his wave rocker looking happy. Hopefully I can keep him awake for a couple of hours then get some sleep tonight??!!! Last night he was on his play gym from 2-3 am - not fun for me. We're finally on our own, at least until Friday night when my sister comes to visit!

I have heard that aldi nappies are good too

M still sleeping....since 7:30....hoping this means she still sleeps tonight ....i dont think there is any link...is there? Was hoping she would wake around 9 for a feed in readiness for her 11pm bedtime. Otherwise its an earlier feed and therefore earlier wake up during the night....ooopsie

Hope you all have good nights with your LOs x bx

Hello lads
Congratulations Vitfa! Love her name.
Nappies - my favourites are sainsburys own little ones brand.
BF clothes - I bought my maternity wear to double up as suitable for feeding so lots of dresses with deep v's that don't show a thing but I also add a scarf.
Ok, braved it. Due to my dad being readmitted into hospital and my grandfather dying I'm on a train to the midlands. The sudden nature of this 3 hour journey means I've fed her on one train and changed her. I was fretting about just taking a 20 minute train to Manchester so I've quashed all travel anxieties in one, albeit sad, go.
Sorry not to reply properly, my phone battery is dying.
Great to see you looley and Glow!

good news on Freyja's weight gain, emera

waula, we also use size 1, we also didnt realise there was a newborn size! we also have a chunkster! slightly alarmed at the thought of having to cut baby out of a vest - must have been a major poonami! don't think we have experienced poonami yet (no leaks yet... but we have had poo-fountain whilst nappy off....)

kymied, hope the reasuseable nappies go well. we are going to start using ours once we run out of disposeables, we have only a few size 1 but loads of size 2 left so it will be a few weeks yet for us.

MsC - sad news but its great that you coped well on the train journey :hugs:

i seem to have missed mama mouse's announcement - congrats!

i managed to get a nap in before supper so im feeling much better. Unfortunately i think i am getting a cold and i have a terrible headache and sore throat.

nct coffee morning tomorrow which will be fun :happydance:

Well F clearly isn't impressed with gaining a lb in a week, she's been feeding non-stop and with gusto since 8pm ish! Every time she comes off she sighs, burps and then starts pecking again and growling for more! :haha: Not too bothered i guess, OH is out, Roh's asleep and we are lying on the bed with a box of chocolates a decaf tea and catch uptv. Plus she makes me laugh so much when she's on the boob hunt, she bobs her head about and gets this focused slightly cross-eyed stare on if she thinks she's spotted a nipple! :haha:

T makes me laugh too. He gets all excited to latch on. Then if he misses or slides off he has a few sucks... Stops... Frowns and looks a bit disgusted... Tries a couple more sucks and then shuts his eyes likes he's exasperated. So cute.

I like Ali nappies for sure. Sainsburys don't work for t. He seems to be able to poke his Willy out and wee on me. Tesco and papers also good. Huggies seemed to tight on his legs.
