March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

Well...here i am the glamourous side to motherhood....typing to you guys whilst M asleep in carrycot and expressing milk :haha:. Bit worried about her waking for a feed and i have expressed it all off...ooops

Well M had her first weigh in with health visitor and she up to 7lbs 8.5oz (birth weight of 6lbs 3oz!!!!)......thats 14oz in 7 days since last weigh in....very chuffed...shes a little chubster:haha:. Also passed her hearing test with flying colours:happydance:

Been to Wisley RHS today...lovely walk around with a couple of the nct girls...planning a less busy week next week...am knackered and have had things on every day this week with no hubby to help out :nope:....so going to be far more relaxed about having to keep busy

Edit...loo...so sorry i have no advice to add ....i am sure M has been restless the last 24 hours due to my inability to bring up wind...i am sure that is what it is. My friend who is a neonatal nurse recommended a technique for winding....lift baby up and hold really straight in order to really stretch her belly before sitting her on lap and leaning her forward to burp....try and keep body as elongated as possible whilst winding.

loo  what does D think about a dummy? remember its an enormous shock to the system for both of you being born. please give yourself a break hun you are doing brilliantly. remember crying is only her communicating. i'm so sorry ur having a tough time. and there is nothing wrong with your milk hun. xxx

Skadi, that's amazing. I'm going to go and listen carefully now!

:D

Skadi, that is really interesting. I can recognise those sounds as ones that Jessica makes. Thanks for sharing, certainly food for thought.

Loo ((((hugs)))) You're doing fantastically. Some times babies just cry. Remember leaving her to cry for a few minutes while you leave the room to collect yourself won't hurt her. When my Amy was a baby she was a terrible crier. One day she was so bad I left her on her playmat in the livingroom and I went in the kitchen and washed some bottles. Took about two minutes. When I went back she had fallen asleep.

Jess has an infection in her right eye and now has to have drops. I always thought there was something wrong with her eye, but put it down to being a nuerotic new mum. Yesterday evening she woke from her nap with it swollen shut.

Yes! It works too, I've been using it with Keira for awhile and it makes things a little less stressful. That said, sometimes it is hard to catch the pre-cry... especially if someone else is "playing with her" while I'm out of the room and then I get stressed out trying to figure out what is going on with her!

I agree with SeaThreePeeO too, sometimes you have to just let them cry it out. I'll let Keira cry it out when I know she is just tired and she will be out within 5 minutes if I leave her alone.

Loo, have you tried a warm bath for her, water is a great help for trapped wind.

Jess tends to do what we call her 'baby bird' impression when hungry. Head wiggling about with her mouth open.

skadi - im going to watch that now :) thanks x

loo - i had the same probolem with george about 3 days ago... its so hard when they are upset and seem to want to constantly feed... really takes it out of you... :hugs: im just sorry i have no advice to add to the other ladies comments x

Ladies im sooooooooooooo glad i bought that pram/snow suit.... it was FREEZING today - 3degrees! :cold: George has now worn both suits.

we registered him and saw the health visitor today.... now treating ourselves to fish&chips for dinner...whooohoooo...

Just noticed that everyone has had their babies now! Congratulations to all of those ladies who have given birth this week!!!

Mitch - your little girl is just like my little boy. Kieran was born at 6lbs 6oz and is already up to 7lbs 5oz! We have some little boobie monsters here!

Question - when does BF stop hurting?? My nips are so sore I have to bite my tongue everytime he latches and it hurts for about 30 seconds. Plus, is it normal that my nips are permanently sticking out now? My breasts feel fine, its just the nipple that is sore at this stage (2 weeks postpartum).

joanna - it used to hurt me until i realised that i wasnt angling the babys head quite right. the nose should be clear of the breast with their chin touching breast. sorry - that doesnt explain it well doesnt it  but try different angles as it may be that the tiniest tweak will mean it doesnt hurt :hugs:

so im gutted..... last night i poured my first glass of wine in yonks, and i couldnt finish even half of it! so ive joined loo in the ''i want to enjoy wine again'' group :(

also c-sec ladies who were put on iron tablets due to blood loss (it says i lost 900ml?) - how long did you take the iron tabs for? Im sooooooo constipated that i already want to stop. cant i just replace them with a SUPER high iron diet or something?

Loo - I don't know what to say except :hugs::hugs:

Sea can I ask you a question about FF? It's been 16 +13 years since I've FF a baby (after BF) so they were a bit older. I used to make bottles up at night for the next day but on all the bumph and on the Aptamil carton it says to make bottles up one at a time  How the hell would you manage that, ie; cooling kettle etc when baby is needing fed!!! I have been making up 4 at a time but it says not to store them????? confused.com

So far Jacob is soooooo chilled (touch wood!) he does tend to have an awake period from about 1am to 3am but he is just chilled and wide awake
So far so good at this end. Not bathed him yet, think I'm going to wait until cord falls off. I'm absolutely in love with him and can't stop staring at him  :cloud9:

Bit miffed today though as waiting on MW coming since this morning for his 5 day check up and heel prick. We have been house bound and it's been really lovely and sunny here :growlmad: apparantley she is still coming (7.20pm now!) bloody FUMING :growlmad:

glad you have used the pramsuit ft (i presume you mean the white fluffy pumpkin patch one?) sadly R has now nearly grown out of his. i really dont think i can squeeze him in it even for one more day.

we are also having fish and chips for dinner - with champagne!

Mmm went to pizza express with MIL for OHs bday today. Had a big Nicoise salad, yum! Also tiramisu :munch: F wanted feeding as we sat down, naturally! She went to sleepbefore my food arrived though, perfect! Roh was really well behaved too, all in all a success :)

Thanks for your kind words and advice ladies. It's a very very tough day for us. Good job I'm off my wine else I think I'd be drinking myself into oblivion!

Interesting Oprah thing. Watched it but forgot straight away (I'm exhausted). Will watch it again after tea.

Going to try a bath before bed for her to see if it settles or wears her out. Looking forward to Al getting home at 1am so he can take some of the stress away

Glow - You're no longer supposed to advance make feeds. So what I do is wash and sterilise the bottles while the kettle is boiling. Then put the hot water in the bottles, put the tops on and leave to cool. So what you have is loads of bottles of boiled water. Then when you need a feed simply add the formula and warm if you like or feed at room temp.

In regards to the MW I would be fuming too.

FT - I stopped after 2 weeks with 700ml blood loss. A high iron diet should be fine. You can always request a blood test with your GP to check your iron levels.

FT i lost 1l blood in c-sec and was on iron tabs but was sooooooooo constipated (i might have bled a bit ) so opted for a diet of steak & greens. was on them for 10d and still a bit constip...hideous tabs...

thinking of you Loo...you tried her in a sling??? hope the bath works xxx

loo- have you looked into info on foremilk/hindmilk imbalance or sometimes called lactose overload or oversupply issues? dealing with this with mason right now. one article i read said 95% of babies that seem colicky actually have this going on. i went from low supply and taking herbs to now oversupply and he is imbalanced. he wants to eat constantly, has gassy tummy, runny diarrhea poo with diaper rash, etc. here are some articles on this...

eta: baby will still be gaining good weight if this is whats going on. it was the deciding factor in whether mason had an allergy to milk or was imbalanced. i guess they wont gain weight if its the allergy. he is still gaining good though.
