March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

COUNT ME IN RASHY!!!!! DEAL!!!!

(by midnight UK time though.... there is alot of sports on during saturday  )

Aww MsCrow, sounds like our OHs have a lot in common. It's so hard to deal with having to do EVERYTHING while they still go out and do their thing. Luckily my sister has been coming over to act as Daddy and give me a break now and then. Do you have anyone like that who can help?

For the record, swaddling rocks! Best sleep since Astrid arrived and that includes a night doped up on morphine! Just wanted to share!

LAURA - thats good to hear... im kinda banking on swaddling working :)

well baby girls are now one infront.... Crowned had baby alexa on march 21st

Ladies - if you have an induced birth with no added complications (so no instruments, c-sec etc) will you go home the same time as if it was a natural birth...? or do they keep you in longer for any reason? xxx

As long as it's a normal delivery they will let you out FT. It's the delivery that counts not the labour :winkwink:

Just got a thing thru the door from mothercare, if anyone needs anything code 3PUA should get you 10% off xxx

MRSC- i hope you get some help soon. your DH has a very important role right now and i hope he sees how invaluable his support is. i was gonna give some tips about your other concerns, but looks like others wrote the same i was thinking. will be thinking and praying for you and edith :hugs:

Laura and all those swaddling.....i do wrap a sheet around Mia but she seems to like her arms above head....that being said she could hardly argue if i swaddle them down. When you say good nights sleep? How many times up for feeding? And do you swaddle with a special blanket (havent worked mine out yet) or a sheet/normal blanket?

Actually all ladies.....how many times during night is LO feeding. Mia slept 11pm-1:30am...then fed no change, then 3am feed and change, 4.30am feed only, 6:30am feed and change...then slept through til 9:30!!!! Alot? Or normal? She feeds and is back down within 20 mins ish.

So 3 times between 11pm and 6:30am

Mitch, Astrid is a star during the day where she feeds for about 25 minutes and then sleeps for 3 hours then I change her and we start the cycle again.

Last night was a bit of a nightmare where she was incredibly clingy and was feeding for. 5 minutes then falling asleep and then waking up after about 10 minutes or at any point that we tried to put her down. At 3am, in desperation, we tried swaddling after her 5 minute feed Nd she slept soundly until 8. Brilliant!

Right swaddling it is tonight...think i.will have to use sheet/normal blanket as swaddling ones are going to be too big for mia ha ha.....titchy as she is.

Will see how we go....also considering her last feed around 11pm being formula...seemed to be good for some nct ladies and i am not adverse to mixing the feeding between bf and ff

edit.....sounds like mia during day...20 min feeds and 3 hours between

Mitch that sounds really normal to me. Freyja is similar, 12am, 3am, 4.30am 7.30am last night, 1am 3.30am and 7am the night before. The first feed they are likely to drop is the midnight-ish one so you end up with about 10pm-3am sleep first, which is lovely! Roh dropped the midnight one at about 3-4 weeks i think, hope that happens again!

Swaddling was sooo amazing with Roh! Freyja seems to like having her hands up though, so i'm just swaddling her with her arms up, rather than the full mumified style swaddle i did with Roh. I'll keep trying it with Freyja though because they can grow to like it. Mitch i'm using SwaddleMe swaddling wraps rather than a sheet, purely because i have them and i put the flat cot sheets in the back of the airing cupboard.

Yawn, growth spurt if kicking my ass! my back aches from feeding all day!
Hoping i'll be able to sneak off for a bath in a bit though...

Mitch, has Mia had any formula yet?

Edit: Just to explain, i'm not being nosy, just asking, as if it will be the first time you give her formula i'd recommend giving her a bottle in the morning the first time. BF and FF babies develop different flora in their guts, so sometimes formula can make a BF baby uncomfortable, give them wind and tummy ache the first few times they have it (after that their gut flora changes a bit and its totally fine!). Doesn't always happen, but was just thinking if you give her her first formula feed at 11pm and she doesn't react well, you might have a crappy night ahead, where as in the day you can sort her out if she needs extra winding etc. and not lose your sleep ;)

Does any one know if Astrid's sleeping is normal. I got really stressed with her 5 minutes on, clinginess, refusal to sleep thing last night. I felt so bad about it but I'm having trouble sleeping at night at all when she's like ythat!

Laura it sounds pretty normal at this early stage. Its hard for them to feel secure when they aren't being held, and it can take a while to settle them. If she's waking up fussing after 10 minutes it could be that she has still got some wind and its waking her up. Its always worth winding them well, even if it wakes them up a bit in the process, they will settle better afterwards ;) I'm partially co-sleeping for now, and will move to full co-sleeping after the first couple of months, because its sooo much easier to settle them and feed, so you get soo much more sleep. Its not for everyone, but if you are struggling, its worth looking into how to do it safely and trying it out ;)

Oh, i should add, getting frustrated when they won't go to sleep is utterly normal too! :hugs: Its so draining not getting more than a couple of hours sleep in one go, and having a tiny person shouting at you when you don't know how to make them happy because you are tired and only want to go to sleep takes it to another level! :hugs: Normal being a new mum experience :hugs: It does get easier ;)
