anyone else really struggle to decide when buying car seats?
the one were currently using came with the pushchair travel system. he's ok with that for a bit longer but i'm thinking of getting him a group 1-2-3 as a xmas pressie so we won't need to change it again. we have a renault scenic with moulded seats, so that rules out 90% of the models which should make it easier to choose. not sure if to get isofix one or just use it with seatbelt system. the isofix bases seem to cost as much as the seats. its doing my head in, wish the had only one seat per car.

Charlieann,
Entirely up to you of course but I recently found out something very interesting about car seats. At my local children's centre we had a road safety specialist attached to the centre who came in to give some information about baby car seats. She said that it is best for babies to remain in rear facing seats for as long as possible, certainly up to 9 months if you can and ideally up to a year (she said provided their head doesn't come over the top of the seat they should preferably remain rear facing). A couple of us had been thinking about the transition to forward facing. I asked her about the fact that as Saf is growing taller her feet are likely to hang over the edge and she said that doesn't matter and still keep her rear facing even if her legs are a bit scrunched up. Apparently because when they are little their heads are still kind of heavy in proportion to their body, rear facing remains the safest option. She said that in a collision situation in a rear facing seat the worst possible scenario would probably be broken leg/s but in a forward facing seat, the worst possible scenario would be a broken neck. By all means check it out for yourself or ask your own expert but it really shocked me when she explained it so I couldn't not share.

wow thats good advice, i was also thinking of going from rear to front facing but i think i will keep him rear facing for as long as poss now.
Thanks :)
Oh i also have a megane and the moulded seats are a pain in the ass!

Also have a look at the Britax Duo Isofix, or Britax Safeix Plus, they have a new thing called pivot link which pushes the down force of a car crash into the actual car seat and reduces the forward movement of a child.

Also, don't put a baby in a thick coat and do the car seat up as you are not doing a close enough fix.

Legs can be easily fixed, heads are a bit more difficult!

Weight Update - 27weeks 2days - 18lb 8.5oz

Just had a thought, does anyone still hear from Em was it that had the twins???

Missy- thanks for that, i didn't even consider the safety aspect of rear vs front facing seats. he's getting close to the weight for group 1-2-3 seats thats why i was looking, but will dig out manuel for current one and check maximum weight limit, and prob leave him in there a bit longer.

Hi everyone, how you doing? I am so sorry I haven't been in touch for ages! x:hugs:

:thumbup:Hey Classyburd, he's doing really well...I can't believe how quickly time is going. I walk around town and I see so many tiny babies and I just can't remember Benjamin being like that at all! I see Snettyb is pregnant again, wow, thats fast moving! I love the Shrine to Archie...where did you get that from, I've never seen anything like that, its gorgeous. Can you use it in any other applications or just on Baby and Bump? Sounds like everyones little ones are doing really well and all seem to be around the same stages. i think my little man is teething, poor little man...he was a few weeks ago too for nothing to appear! How is Archie doing now? If he is anything like Benjamin he'll be getting a right cheeky chappy now who can let you know exactly what he wants. Have you got him on solids yet? I started Benjamin at 5 months as he went back to waking every 3 hours. He's still not great at the mo. He's going til 1.30 ish then feeding every 3 hours so I am thinking of upping his food to 3 meals a day to try and fill him up more, but of course it could be his teeth. How is Archie sleeping? Any news on anybody else, if I can I will try and find time to read through all the threads x:flower:

Weight update on Patrick - 17lb 3oz, 26 weeks.

Had more jabs today - he took it like a trooper and only yelled for 10 seconds or so.

Started weaning this week. Am doing BLW and so far Patrick has had steamed carrot, red pepper, baby corn, asparagus spears, rice cakes with philly, eggy bread, toast, rose apple, porridge with stewed apple and roast chicken. a significant amount of it has gone on the floor but he has managed to eat some and he is great with getting everything in his mouth. He was sucking on the baby corn like it was a lollypop - so cute.

weight update for zach - 15lbs 1oz at 23 weeks

today we have had him rolling over, sitting up unaided, standing up holding onto the sofa and drinking out of his sippy cup himself!!! WOW
