just got this from macdonalds website
McDonald's has two types of milkshake machines. One pasteurises the milk every night and is taken apart and cleaned once a week. The other one is disassembled and sanitised every night. The milk can be topped up, but is completely discarded every week. This way, McDonald's can ensure its' milkshakes are always safe to drink.
so atleast we no there pasteurised!!! as ive been drinking them didnt even enter my head not to, have done in all my pregnancies.
McDonald's milkshakes are made using liquid shake mix, not soft ice cream. Their machine is just a big ice cream maker. They wouldn't be able to sell it if it wasn't pasteurized. It wouldn't be FDA approved and every restaurant product has to be approved. BTW, the machine goes into clean cycle twice a day and the machine is set to a temperature that bacteria won't grow in. It's also completely torn apart twice a week. One of the corporate managers of the franchise is a family friend and I asked her about it and this is what she told me. So it is safe to enjoy the shakes/McFlurry's as you wish.
I don't have them anyway - I'm vegetarian and I remember reading somewhere (ages ago) that they have chicken fat in them! Yuk![]()
