mixed up or dates not matching up

Ok this will be knida long. I ovulated around 12-18 or 19 (we thought I ovulated a week earlier but looking at my charting we now know my dates were off) and we took a hpt on 12-22-11 and it was positive. We wound up doing beta tests due to some post intercourse spotting and on 1-1-12 my beta was 101. Fast forward to 1-17-12, we went to an ob appointment and he did an ultrasound and since lmp would have put me at over 7 weeks but the u/s showed me at 5 weeks. He wanted to do a D & C. I refused and wanted a second opinion ( hubby and I tried for 11 years for this). We were devastated! We called another ob who looked at his beta (which was done after his recommendation for a D & C). It was 3734. So the new ob sent me for another beta this morning and u/s. The beta was 5749 which is 39 hours after the 3734 one. The ultrasound showed nothing and also dated me at 5 weeks along. My beta is going up and I feel like this is a good sign but my new ob can't view the u/s till tomorrow but it seems that my beta and ultrasound are right on target with each other but maybe a bout a week off of my ovulation date. Any advice?

My cycles were very erratic post-mc and pre-this pregnancy, e.g. from 21 to 44 days, so we were advised to try from day 7 to day 30 and I concieved this baby around day 9 of my cycle, so I date a little earlier than the traditional day 14. In my mc, I only had sex around day 20 of my cycle; so it is possible to ovulate pre- and post- day 14....so, YES, it is possible to be about a week 'off'.

That said, I think waiting -- watching your hcg levels (which do look promising) and have another scan or two is the best idea at the moment -- do NOT listen to the one doctor at the moment (re: D&C) because you do not have all the relevant information to make a good decision. In my case, I did have a natural mc but my hormones levels did not increase very much and I knew instinctively that it was not viable....

Im sorry you are going through all of this stress. Im not trying to be negative, just doing math. The EARLIEST you can get a + HPT is 9 dpo (3+2 weeks). So if you got a + on 12/22 you would have to be at least 7 weeks now. If you were only 5 weeks you would have got a + before conception, which isnt possible. It is possible that the + wasnt a true positive (maybe an evap) and you are earlier than you thought.
