Moving Onward - another IVF ramble...

16 follies is a great number! I got told is quality not quantity, if you have over 20 then quality goes down! 16 is like they say just about perfect. I see the whole process as hurdles and you just flew over one of them :) Next like you say is how many eggs, then how many fertilise, then how many survive etc etc. Egg retrieval didnt bother me one bit, in fact i got to take lorezepam, do you? I felt a bit "out of it" really chilled, took it the night before and felt well kinda numb in emotions when i woke up so swiftly swollowed the next pill haha. i recomend having them if you have the choice. are you going to be sedated too cos i was out like a light and remember nothing for 45 mins. Then i was up and out of hospital in about 45 mins. Wish you all the luck hun. Let us know how many eggies they get? XX

Hey Would you mind me asking why your having to have IVF and have you been through it before?

They say it's something called a 'virtual anaesthetic' where you sleep right through. Nah nothing like that the night before. Wouldn't have minded that. I am a person who has trouble sleeping. I am one of those very cerebral people who think alot so when something is going on I find it very difficult to switch off.

For the actual collection they used to use some kind of sedative and told you to bring a CD of music with you (had made the most beautiful CD with all my favourites on it) but for this they say they could bring a brass band in and you would not know it was there. It's like a general anaesthetic but without the paralysis and the need for anything to breathe for you. Last time I had any kind of anaesthetic I was in a complete state when I woke up so I am glad this is the way it is.

Wouldn't mind taking some herbal sleep aids tonight but I don't want to feck anything up.

Having at Northwest Fertility, i.e. Hewitt Centre, Liverpool Women's Hospital and no, I have never had IVF before. This is my first 'go'.

Well tis a shame best bit about my egg collection was the lorezepam made me feel a bit spaced out haha :) I tell you this though when i came out of the egg collection I felt totally fine, so fine that i said to my hubby if thats all there is to it i will become a regualr egg donor........i know some people have some pain but i think some of it is in the head too, i just hink to myself if you cant handle the egg collection what the hell are you doing trying for a baby! Some people in ward with me after were moaning and groaning loads!

Well when I went for my Lap and Dye there were people telling me "God, it hurts afterwards" etc etc, saying they needed days in bed. As a person who suffers terribly with endometriosis and excruciating pain every single time I have a period, what I felt after the Lap and Dye was nothing more than a niggle. My threshold is pretty high after all these years of dysmenorea.

Hun i couldnt agree more, i had a HSG you know dye pumped threw tubes and i started reading everywhere how awful it is and take a day off work and dont worry its intense pain but only last 3 minutes or so..........well i thought i was a puff but i am so not after all these months of injections and scans and dyes etc the HSG was nothing, slight 10 second period pain nothing more, i thought honestly do some people have low thresholds or do i not have any pain nerves in my body haha......worst discomfort i have had so far was egg transfer....yes...the transfer........and only because my bladder was so full i thought i would pee myself as they press a scanner on your womb and its just really uncomfortable but certainly not painful.

Hi CS

I'm so glad that you've responded well to the meds. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a good EC tomorrow and a great fertilisation rate come Tuesday.

I'm sure you don't need me to say this, but don't do what I did first time round and imagine getting a near 100% fertilisation rate, and remember how calm you've been feeling the past couple of weeks, and try and hold on to that.

If I were the praying sort, I'd pray for the best possible outcome for you, but seeing as I'm not I won't - I'll just keep my fingers crossed instead.

Good luck

Hey Maz, hope you are keeping well. Are you still being notably absent? Tbh I am a little the same. I drift on over here at times but I find it hard being around all the time so my presence is kind of sporadic!!!

Hopefully the fertilisation rate will be good. I have been told that you can ask for two to be put back. I am going to do that on Tuesday when they phone me with the report. I don't know if it depends on age but it cannot hurt to ask. I just want the best chance possible and even if the likelihood is only slightly increased then that is better than not increased at all!!!

J and I have been playing a game. I honestly don't think we'll get more than six eggs and of that I am anticipating 2 or 3 fertilised, if that. Anything more than that is a bonus. He is a little more hopeful but I like to keep my hopes as close to the ground as I can so as not to be disappointed!!!

Not the praying sort ever but I did pathetically cross my fingers when attending scan on Friday. Hid them so nobody could see but they were firmly crossed.

Hope all is well with you m'dear. Where are you at, at present?

I'm just biding my time - same shit different day kind of thing. I'm waiting for my NHS letter to come through. Last time I checked it was going to be sometime between 2 and 4 months away - that was about a month ago. Think I might phone them tomorrow for an update.

I'm not on here much - well I check in most days, stay for about 10 minutes, then disappear - quite often without posting. I'll definitely be checking in on you though to see how you're doing.

Good luck for tomorrow - I really hope you get a good result. On both my cycles I had more follicles than showed up on the original scans - some follies were hidden by others - and all my follies (bar one) had mature eggs, so fingers crossed you'll get the same outcome - but with a much better fertilisation rate.

I'll pop by tomorrow.

You might be nearing the top then which is good. You ready for another crack at it or are you still in the mental preparation stage? If this does not work I dont think I can go straight back into it. Feel that a break would be in order. It's not a horse I could jump back onto without some time to reflect.

Am the same. I sort of pop by occasionally but I simply don't recognise anyone any more so it's not like I am missing out on any 'friendships' so to speak. Everyone seems to have moved onwards and upwards so I feel like one of those idiots who had to stay behind and retake a year at school whilst all their mates went to Uni.

I really hope to do well. Everything has gone okay so far, just do not want to fall at the final hurdle. And I hope I have the 'bottle' to speak up and say I want two put back. Someone else did it and had their two replaced but unfortunately, since I am nowhere near thirty-five I am wondering if they will tell me to sod off!!!!

Hopefully shall have something somewhat good to tell you tomoz.

To be honest, the only thing that has 'bothered' me thusfar is a day after Lap and Dye I developed a UTI. I always get them. They are horrendous and uncomfortable and the Bane of my Life. That was the ONLY thing I have found unbearable, the fact that stuff gets shoved where the sun don't shine and leave you somewhat uncomfortable a little while later.

Dreading egg transfer, if I get that far.

Hey CurlySue, I've just read this thread and your right up is lovely, thank you for sharing it and good luck for tomorrow xo

Hey chic they talked me out of putting 2 back too cos i am only 33 just! I was adament having 2 put back but they said best not as good quality embryos. Just play it by ear if the quality is less than perfect go for 2 if the quality if top notch i recommend just the 1 after losts of debating myself thats what I decided. I also think i will give this first chance a go with 1 back on their advice but if it does not work i will be adament about putting 2 back and say look you were wrong last time and i listend this time i want to do what i want to do :) Its a hard decisoon though isnt it.

I just want the two. Have done a lot of research and even if it only gives you a five percent better success rate I want that extra five percent. It's our bodies. If we understand the risks we should be given the choice after all.

CurlySue, you write so beautifully. You always bring tears to my eyes. I'm so glad to hear that you have responded well to treatment and you have so many great follicles... Hope the egg collection goes well tomorrow. Good luck! xx

i also would really like 2 put back. like you say, we understand the risks. and that extra 5% means a hell of a lot to us girls.

my best friend had triplets through ixxy ivf, do you know the name of the type of ivf your having curly sue?

Oh sorry, love, do not mean to bring on the tears. I hope all is going well for you, m'dear. Such a rubbish thing we have to do, isn't it?

I just know it as IVF to be honest. Long protocol, I think, with down regulation and stimulation, followed by progesterone. Just the bog-standard IVF...

ah ok. im wishing you all the luck in the world for tomorrow, ill be thinking about you x
