Hi ladies,

I got a call yesterday from my doctors office letting me know that one of my blood tests came back abnormal. I have a gene mutation called mthfr and I don't really know much about it. Does it increase miscarriage risk? Any risks to me? She prescribed 800mcg folate which I picked up today and started immediately. I'm also on 200mg vaginal suppository for progesterone. I am still lightly bleeding/spotting with the progesterone so naturally I'm very concerned I will miscarry for the 4th time. I have an ultrasound tomorrow and I'm very nervous about it... I'll only be about 5.5 weeks. Right now I just feel so overwhelmed and scared that I'll just have another loss. Could really use some support and advice.

Thank you ladies

I don't have it but my sister does. She had multiple miscarriages before she got tested and came back positive with this. She had to take extra folate as well as give herself a shot throughout pregnancy and just delivered healthy twins!

IIRC (I looked at this 4 yes ago when we lost ruby), Mthfr mutation - particularly 677C>T reduces the body's ability to process Folate ; Folate deficiency being a huge risk factor for neural tube defects. A number of miscarriages mean due to an open neural tube in the baby. That's why your doc has increased your folic acid dose. Folic is the synthetic version, so I really recommend upping your natural intake too - green leafy veg is good :)

Super sticky healthy dust to you xx
