Mums/Moms after Recurrent Losses (MARL) - Come join us!

Hi ladies, I'm so hoping to join you here soonish ish!! This is such a lovely thread!!

Just a quick question, me and hubs have come down with a stomach bug / flu. I went to get checked out at the docs yesterday and they said it would go and baby was fine - spent all day vomiting yesterday with diarrhea. But my hubs is so ill with cold and flu as well!! Apart from it being horrible seeing him suffer I am worried I will get as bad as this and it will harm baby. I am feeling much better today. Did anyone on here get poorly during pregnancy (sickness, diarrhoea, flu, cold, headache (and obviously everything turned out!). Thanks everyone and love to your lovely babies! Xxx

I never had anything, but OH have severe flu and really bad virus when i was 37 weeks. I rang dr and asked what are the chances of me getting it and it causing trouble, they said none. if i did get it, id just be poorly it wouldn't affect baby. I was worried it would induce labour. He was ill for a week and thankfully i never caught anything, but i did have a week of walking everywhere and being his carer

Fili- I had a horrible cold, fever just over 100 for a few days, off work for a week. Took Tylenol, Sudafed, cough drops. Cough, sore throat, was awful. We survived ;) I was nervous to take anything but had to get my fever down. Then it would go right back up after Tylenol wore off.

Fili, I had a vomiting diarrhea bug and emailed Mr S about it as I was worried. He said to just try and stay hydrated but ducky would be fine. DH had the flu at some point, which I didn't catch. It's the fever you need to watch out for. Don't let it get too high. Take paracetamol, cool bath, ring out of hours doc if you have to. I hope you don't get it! :hugs:

My favourite, most useful baby items:
Our pram carrycot, which also works as a lie down car seat - genius! We put a sheepskin in it making use of it as a day bed and a travel bed, too (no need for a Moses basket).
The co-sleeper I have attached to our bed. When J wakes up during the might I just roll or pull him over for a feed, job done, no need to get out of bed!
Oversized muslins - they work for vomit, as a light blanket, sun/wind/distraction on the pram - brilliant!
Our baby gym. You won't need one at first but after 6-7 weeks it'll keep your baby entertained to no end :D

Fili i vommed my way through pregnancy as you know so can vouch for baby being ok on that front, i do recall having a cold late on in pregnancy, it travelled through our house which was weird because nobody i knew had one to pass on to us. All fine though. I took lemsip even tho it tastes vile x

Fili I had a horrible cold at least once if not twice but none of the other symptoms you describe. Don't forget that the babies take your immunity for themselves. Keep an eye on your liquid intake and body temp. You should be fine and so will Memo.

Tuckie I posted a list a while back on the PARL thread. Do you want me to post it here?

Haven't properly caught up. MIL is gone now. Will try to do so tomorrow.

Heart- damn, I must've missed it! Any idea what page it was on? It's not a big deal or anything if I can't find it. I did want to ask you how you like your Ubbi though. I'm leaning towards the Ubbi for the pail since you can use any bag.

Everyone else- thanks for all your suggestions! It's been super helpful :)

Pip- have you got a link to your pram carrycot/bed? I'm having trouble picturing what you mean. We got a travel system which is just a car seat that clicks into a stroller which can later be used as a big kid stroller too w/o the car seat in it.

Here you go, tuckie. This one is almost the same as ours:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVJcOKCxY5U
(you see it in the car at 1min15 - note that it takes up two spaces and uses two seat belts)

Now that J is more interested in his surroundings I often raise his seat so he can see out more.

Here is a different brand:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaSLJj9QTTg

The seat can be used up to 10kg (about 6 months).

Girls did your babies heads ever measure smaller? On today's scan baby's head was 3-4 Days smaller than dates. The lady said not to worry and the same thing happened to Pip who has really helped to put my mind at rest, just wondered if anyone else had experienced this. Don't want the head falling too behind! Everything else was normal but can't help but worry a little.

Fili - Bryce's head was always much smaller. I asked about it each u/s and the doc always said it was fine. It always worried me but when I see him now, I can't even tell. In fact, his head looks huge to me now.

For Tuckie:

I really like the Ubbi. I wish it had a foot pedal, but I prefer being able to use any bag. And not having a foot pedal isn't a big deal.

To add on to my list, and some of the other ladies have mentioned these: nail clippers are essential. Motherlove nipple cream is the only one to use. Baby carriers. I stopped using the Moby. I use a ring sling in the house as it is easy to put on quickly and an Ergo when out an about for the stability. It also has a hood to shade her from the sun. I'm going to get a Bjorn soon as it allows her to face front. But when they don't have neck and head control, you should have them face tummy to tummy. Bouncy chair for when you need to plop them down. Lots of nursing tops and nursing pjs. Oral syringes from the hospital that have ml measurements are great (good thinking Pups!) We put a nipple in Delilah's mouth and syringe in her medicine that way. Bay might not need medicine but I think they put all babies on Vit. D now so you may need to give her that. The hospital oral syringes are way better than the ones you get from Walgreens. Bottles are essential. Make sure you have slow flow (level 1) nipples. Dr. Browns 4 oz are good to start with. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

Here is the link to my list on the PARL thread, but I copied the list below.

Changing pad. I love this one for the top of a dresser I bought. It is a rubber material so it is super easy to clean. And yes, they need frequent cleaning. We've had lots of renegade peeing when we're changing her diaper. I've also put a blanket over it for her to nap in on the sofa. I also throws waterproof disposable pad over it and give her sponge baths. It's awesome! I have it in brown to match the dark furniture in the room.https://www.amazon.com/Soft-Gear-Delu...t+gear+changer

BFing pillow. I was given a My Brest Friend pillow and I love it. People say it stays firmer than a boppy pillow though I've never used a boppy. A pillow is handy when they are so little.https://www.amazon.com/My-Brest-Frien...s=Brest+friend

Diaper pail. Ditto to what Hopeful said. If you are planning to do cloth or disposable, the Ubbi Diaper pail is great because you can use any bag you want inside. I'm using a cloth wet bag as I'm using cloth wipes. I haven't transitioned to cloth diapers yet as she is still small.https://www.ubbiworld.com/shop_diaper_pail.php

If you are doing cloth wipes, I got a wipes warmer as a gift. It's really great! Keeps them moist and warm. Like Amber, I usually don't use any wipes for just pee. It's sterile. The less you use on them, the less their skin is irritated. So far she hasn't had one diaper rash! https://www.amazon.com/Prince-Lionhea...s=Wipes+warmer

The wipes warmer comes with wipes but you are supposed to roll them before putting them in! Yeah right! After reading reviews, I found these cloth wipes fit perfectly. No folding or rolling required. I bought 40 of them.

Drying rack. If you are pumping or giving any bottles, you'll constantly be washing things. Constantly. I really like this one and it's cute!
https://www.amazon.com/Boon-Winter-Gr...on+drying+rack

Swing. Ditto Hopeful. You shouldn't get one until you knowing your baby likes movement. This swing has been a lifesaver. We were given a self bouncing bouncy chair and it's not enough movement for her.https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-C...ggabunny+swing

Lots of blankets. I made most of mine. They are light flannel. I'm constantly wrapping her in them. Get square ones you can use to swaddle. Ditto Hopeful on these. Lots of great uses.https://www.amazon.com/aden-anais-Mus...aden+and+anais

Nipple gel pads. These were given to me at the hospital after I got mastitis. My nipples were cracked and bleeding. Lansinoh did nothing to help them. These pads are the same material that they use for burn victims. It doesn't stick to skin. I would put these on after nursing so my nipples didn't stick to my clothing. These were the only reason my nipples healed. I wish I had them from the beginning. https://www.amazon.com/Ameda-17261M-C...ds=Nipple+pads

Burp cloths. I like using small prefold cloth diapers. Perfect size. I also took some bigger ones from the NICU.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o01_s00_i00

This is great for baby's bum. She hasn't had any diaper rash since coming home from the NICU. But I like to put this on her bum anyway. It makes her smell like lavender. And it is safe for her skin.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o04_s00_i00

Moby wrap. Great for carrying around a newborn. It is kind of a pain to put on and there is a lot of fabric, so you get hot easily.https://www.mobywrap.com/

I'm going to buy an Ergo carrier which is easier to wear with an infant insert. I'm also going to buy a Maya ring sling.

Love my stroller too! I bought the car seat adaptor so I can put the car seat in it as she's still too little to sit in it otherwise. I got it in green. It folds up really easily and steers beautifully.https://www.babyjogger.com/city_mini_sngl_dtl.aspx

Thanks round that's good to know, he looks gorgeous and perfect in your avatar!! How much smaller were they measuring him?

Fili my baby's head was on track but I think that's because I have the smallest head on the planet and Tim has the biggest! LOL! Seriously, extra small hats are sometimes too big for my head and extra large ones are sometimes too small for his. I would try not to worry at all about that measurement. Some people just have small heads like me! It didn't have any bearing on my brain, just my ability to wear hats.

Pip that pram seat would be a nightmare for a kid with reflux! But it looks awesome otherwise!

Oh and Fili, when you look at me, you can't tell at all that I have a really small head. People are always surprised when I tell them.

Fili- surprisingly I was not sick during pregnancy besides a minor cold. DH on the other hand had a bad stomach bug the night before my water broke and spent all night puking. Like the other girls have said don't worry about the head measurement. I'm sure the baby is just fine. Penny always measured on the larger side and still does:haha:

I remember at my 38 week u/s his head was measuring at 36 weeks. They also told me at that u/s he would be 8lbs and he was only 6lbs. The measurements can be so wrong sometimes. I really wouldn't worry about it.
