my first formula feed...

That is great about your OH! I hope that you start to feel better soon. Did you guys get any snow? We got just a little (just enough to put Carter in his snow suit, lay him in the snow and take a pic). I hate snow, just makes driving harder-I already have a 30 min drive into the city as it is.

thanks, still not able to keep food down atm, tried toast yesterday and couldnt keep ti down, OH watched Barry while i got some extra sleep during the day which is great because i was so low on energy yesterday. i need to take a photo of barry out in the snow today before it all melts, im sure we'll get more but this is his *first* snow i guess!

heating broke down completely last night, house was feezing, barry slept in his snowsuit with a blanket. unfortunatly our roommate has our comforter because he doensnt have a blanket so me and my DH froze under a thin blanket! going to buy another comforter today which roommate is paying for.

Hope you feel better & sort out your heating issue soon hun, big hugs :hugs::hugs:

Sorry to hear about all your bad luck lately. Its got to get better right? On the bright side you get a brand new comforter.

2months = 11lbs :)
4months = 12lbs :wacko:
4 months 1 weeks = 10.8oz
4months 2 weeks 5 days = 13lbs :happydance:
4 months 3 weeks 5 days =14 lbs :happydance:

(is a pound a week too much?)

a problem im having is my milk has litertrally dried up despite still taking fenugreek, pumping and feeding. i dont know if this because i added formula to his diet or if it was going to dry up anyway :( looks like im switching to formula full time. im just happy hes putting weight on.

the other thing is solids, i want to wait till 6 months to wean, but he seems eager enough now. i still want to wait because im going to try BLW. but id love for him to have a piece of fruit every now and then after a bottle. he loves pinapple after i let him have some last night, he didnt just suck it but chewed it up with his gums and swollowed it!

i asked in the weaning section what they thought about offering a bit every once in a while. gonna see what they say. but i might keep doing it until i start weaning at 6 months unless its going to make a problemw ith weaning.

what do you ladies think?

Yay, his weight gain sounds great!

As for weaning, if he's interested in solids, few tastes at 5 months won't hurt. Stick to fruits & veggies for now, & once he's 6 months you can offer him more varieties, many ladies started with TW offering puree & porridge before 6 months & they switched later to BLW with no problems. You'r only offering him few tastes without mashing, & he's chewing them which is a great start for his age :) Enjoy hun xx

The weight gain looks great. I wouldn't think a lb a wk is too much for now. As far as the tastes go, I don't see how it would hurt anything, better a piece of pinapple than your phone.:haha:

thanks ladies, your posts are really helpful.

he loves pineapple, and he likes banana and melon. hes really good at chewing despite lack of teeth. and hes still drinking all his milk so its not effecting his feeds.

They don't need teeth to chew, Omar had his 1st teeth at 1 year 6 days & he was eating real food without mashing at 7 months xx

sorry rant time again.

car battery = $115
fridge & freezer = $200
furnace = $3000 (that isnt a typo)

bank funds = $20

we have no heating at all now. all our food is in MILs freezer at her house. car has to be pop-started veryday.

and we are struggling to pay bills let alone fix everything.

so fed up, this is Barrys first christmas, our first christmas alone together in our own house and its shit.

:hugs: If I wasn't staying with my mom, I would invite you to come stay with me.

thanks angel thats really sweet of you. we had a guy come round to look at it today, he replaced a tiny part that cost us $75.

so its working again now, but he reckons it'll only hold up for another month, 2 if we're lucky. then we need to replace the other 2 of those parts ($75 each) plus the blow ($350)

but he said doing all that might make it last through till next winter, and then we'll need to replace the whole thing.

at least we have heat tonight. its a start.

my roommates came home from work at the same time, cant get their cars up the hill we live on because its a sheet of ice. hubby is now home also cant get up the hill. MIl came over with ehr 4x4 and she can only just get up the hill. they are all out there now with shovels throwing cinders on the road. i hope it works.

Well at least its fixed for now. Hopefully it will last at least until tax time, then maybe you can fix it with that money? I can't believe how bad the snow is. I heard that the roads were closed all the way from St. Louis to where my grandma lives in Cuba. Yuck! Hate, hate, hate snow and ice!

the snow here isnt too bad, we got about 5inches, but its melting now and with the rain last night everything is just ice. i havent wiped out yet but i know i will when i walk the dog, last night he was pulling me along the iced road, it was like iceskating!

I can just picture it. Peepers always used to drag me and she is small. Luckily my mom has a fenced in yard so I don't have to walk her to let her do her business. I know that you saw my fb pic, I thought I would post this other one for you. I know that you are into photography. I take lots of pics and I spruce them up using a website called picnik.com. You should check it out, I am sure you would love it. I liked it so much I decided to get a membership.

Hope you guys don't mind a mini rant...
My MIL just told me that OH's cousin's baby is on cereal already. He baby is just over three weeks old!!!!!!!!!!! MIL says the dr told her to give it to him because he was so hungry and is gonna be a big baby. WTF! And then MIL says to me well he was still waking at night even after they added the cereal (MIL sides with the dr btw). So I told her (MIL) "so what he is an f-ing baby, that is what they do". And she says "well he was still waking every 2 hrs". Again I said "so what!" The fact he is till waking even after being given cereal should tell you right there that it is doing nothing because he is still waking. Most babies that young need to wake for a feed several times a night. I can't believe a dr would suggest cereal for that reason. I have to keep telling myself that its not my baby and that it is pointless really for me to even be this appalled. Thanks for listening- didn't want to post in baby club as you know how it can get in there.

first off, gorgeous photo of Carter, will definaly check out that site.

as for MIL ugh im sure you've read all about mine. and the doctor should know better! but to be honest even my docotor suggestion weaning Barry at 4 months and i said what about the 6 motnh recommended age by the AAP and he said "i think the AAP says 4 months" think? what do you mean think?! your my babys god damn doctor! ugh and i know the AAP says 6 months i researched it and double checked after that. Now yes people wean earlier, and ive been giving him bits of fruit and what not since 4.5 months old. bu he wanted me to start 3 meals a day or baby rice in the morning, and half a jar of stage 1 foods lunch and evening and im just not ready to do that!

im sorry your cousins baby is being fed cereal at that age, maybe add her to your facebook and send her a message to see what she says? you can only give advice and if its ignored then theres not a whole lot you can do.

goodness knows why they think a 3 weeks old baby should be sleeping through, Barry still wakes once a night for a feed and hes 5 months old tomorrow!

Barrys doing great with his feeds, i dont BF anymore at all, my supply is non-existant, im sad but when i see his weight gain i know im doing the right thing. Hes drinking ALOT though, at least it seems like a lot to me. hes on 8-10oz 4-5 times a day. and i give him 2 pieces of fruit/veg a day before his bedtime bottle.

i also bought some gerber cheese stick things, like cheese puffs? i know they arent nutritionally good, but they arent full of sugar and he likes them. so i dont mind him having one on the odd occasion. think im eating most of them though!

hes also started cutting a tooth! front bottom, i can feel a razor sharp edge there now. I check every few days, but last night before he went to bed he was cranky, kept pulling on the bottle teat and seemed a bit fussy, this morning i checked and sure enough sharp edge coming through! hes a bit fussy today and keeps biting the bottle teat, but i put some teething gel on and im hoping he naps (hes in his bassinet moaning to teddy atm).

in other news, still no fridge freezer, MIL has a spare one, if roads arent too bad going to use her trailer to get it here. otherwise another week without it because monday its suppose to snow again and i live on a hill. cant get trailer up the hill. car battery has been replaced with a nice shiney new one thanks to an old family friend who pitched in some christmas money for it. and like i said the furnace is kind of working. the house is warmer so only 2 blankets on barry at night not 4.

i also have borrow lights and decorations from MIL, so tree is now decorated, cats are having a great time undecorating it. i even gave out a few christmas cards to the neighbours. so feeling in a goodish mood.

bit of a cough and sneeze though (barry too) so maybe a bit of a cold coming on.

Barrys really progressing with solids, probably quicker then i want but i gues theres a reason its called baby-led.

he has lumpy mashed up banana and toast for dinner. he was eating it off his baby spoon, feeding himself. was so proud of him. growing up so fast though :(

hes drinking 8oz bedime and morning
6oz at first nap and second nap
6-10oz when he wakes (4 or 6am)
and a bit of solids before his bedtime bottle.

Sorry, didn't have a chance to really get on yesterday. We went to Silver Dollar City (in Branson, not sure it you've heard of it, its a theme park). They have over 4 million Christmas lights up and a Christmas Parade. Anyway, we had a good time, Carter wasn't really impressed.
I am glad Barry is doing so great. I have almost bought those cheese sticks like 4 times but I haven't yet. I think I will the next time I am in the store. We did get those other Gerber snacks, they are called Graduates Puffs and Carter about choked on one. We haven't tried them again yet. He did though have his first taste of meat today (a jar of sweet potato and turkey) he loved it same as he loves all other food. I can't wait to get my food processesor for Christmas, then I plan on making most of his food.
Also in the past week and a half Carter has been sitting really well, not quite a pro yet but getting there. He also rolled over today front to back finally :happydance:.
As far as OH's cousins baby goes, she is one of those relatives we don't talk to much and I have only ever met her once so she would prob think I was crazy if I tried to start giving her advice. I'm just not going to think about it anymore.
Do you and Barry still have that cough? Hope not.
Did you get a chance to look at that wesite? I hope you liked it if you did.
Also, do you think dancing is learned, or something natural? I swear the other day I thought Carter was trying to dance to a Moose A Moose song (Nick Jr).
Sorry so long, you'd have thought I was gone for a week!

p.s. So happy to hear about your Christmas tree!

Havent heard of it before but it sounds beautiful, i love christmas lights and decorations. shame Carter wasnt too impressed, maybe next year!
Id definatly get the cheese sticks, Barry loves them!

As for choking, its happened a few times, well i read that choking is silent, and gagging is what they normally do and its very different, because their gagging relfect is more forward in their mouth then adults. but they soon learn to move the food forward again. The more you try it the better he'll get at it dont worry! Barry still gags quite a bit but hes more cautious now he doesnt just shove food as far into his mouth can.
Im getting the Pampered Chef slap chopper thing for christmas, im gonna use this to mash up veggies and fruit for LO so that they arent purees but lumpy mash.

Well done carter for rolling over! Barrys been able to roll over but not sit very well as of yet, our Lo's need to teach other a thing or two!

Dancing - definatly a natural thing. Barry bounces and jiggles to music sometimes and ive certainly not taught him to jiggle to music, must be a natural thing for them to do. So i recon Carter is on to it too!

I have just read all of the "90's" thread and am feeling all warm and fuzzy with memories. So sad isn't it? Btw does your bnb act weird at night. I think they do updating or something. Anyway, I am def getting some cheese sticks tomorrow. I think I will put him in the highchair without a shirt and just let him go to town. What was the last weight Barry was at?
