My heart broke a little today :(

If it was abuse to leave a baby outside in the cold then almost every parent is abusive over here :haha: Maria slept outside in -7 today, poor child!

this made me:rofl::rofl: but seriously i guess it does depend on where you live? but for me i wouldn't leave my baby alone and def not outside  anything could happen and i wouldn't want someone to steal my buuba:cry: in fact if it was me who saw that i would prob go into the shop and say there's a baby crying outside :) x

It only takes a couple of seconds for a child to be snatched wherever you live!

Remember Maddie Maccann? :nope:

She is a different circumstance entirely. The children were not even in the same building as the adults. But I agree it takes seconds.
It is highly irresponsible and neglectful and I wouldn't dream of it. That poor cold upset baby :(

What I meant was that it only takes seconds for a child to be taken. Maddy Maccanns parents were irresponsible and neglectful too?

If it was my baby crying outside I'd appreciate being told :)

I understand in some areas/countries etc this is seen as the norm and is perfectly safe!Where Im from you don't risk leaving your kids anywhere unsupervised!!

I agree. This made me want to cry. I couldnt imagine leaving joseph anywhere, i just wouldnt do it period, probably because im overprotective and paranoid to excess but i just couldnt let him out my sight, ive read too much media and watched too much too much news. :nope: xx

I remember this being common practice when i was growing up but it amazes me that someone would leave their child unattended outside a shop for even a minute nowadays! I can't believe that any mother would be comfortable with that. Poor baby.
I actually had someone warn me a few weeks ago about taking my eyes of my pushchair, i was in a big supermarket and had let go of my son's pushchair to look at a few toys, but it was right beside me. A guy of about my age who was with his partner and baby tapped me and said that i should be more vigilant because a baby can be stolen in a split second. I though that this was a bit excessive, but i guess you can never be too careful these days.

This was common practice years ago and my uncle got stolen from outside Woolworths once. They got him back but OMG! It would never even cross my mind to leave my babies outside a shop

as long as baby is wrapped up outside isnt a problem... a holey blanket is ok, if knitted and babys is layered up, sometimes i go out with my son wearing what looks like just a baby grow but he has 3 or 4 layers on under it!

i personally wouldnt leave my child in a place he could be snatched regardless of where i live, but i guess im not trusting of others

I see it a lot, it breaks my heart too.

I once sat outside a shop to wait for a Mum to come back from inside the shop because i was so worried about the baby.

She had put not even the baby outside the shop but about 5 ft from the door in the middle of a walkway.

I would never do that but I live in a big city and anything can happen here. We don't have a stroller/pram/similar because of the whole small-apartment-public-transit thing - MissBoo is worn on my front wherever we go!
Just thinking about seeing a baby sobbing by itself in the cold makes my stomach knot. At that age, babies don't understand about "I'll come back" so the poor thing thought it's mama had gone for good!

Id never leave my lo alone you never know what creep is out there, besides its ilegal in Canada.... as leavin children in the car..

Letting you lo sleep on the back poch does not count :p

wow that is terrible anyone could have taken the poor child she obviously was taking no notice or she would have come to see what you was doing around her child no offense but you could have been anyone a baby snatcher or anything :-( that has made me sad

god i get distraught when my baby cries and were at home and i cant get to her cos im on the loo or something let alone in this circumstance :-( i would have said something so would my OH lol

I wish it was illegal in this country.

I'd be scared that someone would take LO and I don't like him cry he gets scared when he realises he's alone in a strange area. :(

My thoughts entirely, surely it doesnt matter where you live, all it takes is one mentally deranged person, might look alright to some, to snatch an unattended child, not worth the risk! I feel paniced even taking my hands off the pushchair when Im out!

oh gosh I would never do this - ever!. James Bulger springs to mind and he wasn't even left outside a shop
Its not worth the risk

this is actually very common in foreign countries when we visited Copenhagen it seemed to be very common practice either that or the same woman went everywhere we did with various different pushchairs

Stealing babies is extremely rare, its probably safer to leave your baby outside the shop in the pram than to cross the road with your baby in the pram!

i would never ever EVER leave my baby unattended, not even for 1 second. Im heartbroken when im on the toilet or jump in the bath and he starts crying for me. I feel so guilty. Id never take my hand off his pram when we go out. it only takes 1 second. Someone could steal him, something could fall on him.. it just NOT worth the risk!

I think there is quite a bit of paranoia. I agree with nats.
