but I don't know the name meaning! lol. I called my daughter Mirren and as part of her naming day i would like to include a bit about her name meanings (for middle names too). We had this included in Nathan's naming day.

all i can find is that it's a Scottish Patrons name for Football! and that it is a boys name:dohh: doesn't sound very boyish to me!

can anyone help me?

Im sure a girl ive got on another forum said Mirren means beautiful?!
I could be very very wrong so please dont quote me on it!! x

I also found: Mirren - Gaelic - Patron saint of football

A few sites listed it as a girl's name -- but no meaning or origin

What is a "Naming Day"??

Its kind of like a christening without the religious content . xx

I found this but its the meaning of Miren :shrug:https://www.gurgle.com/tools/baby_names/name/11095/Miren.aspx . xx

I found this one; dont know if it helps

https://www.behindthename.com/name/miren

MIREN
Gender: Feminine

Usage: Basque

Basque form of MARY

MARY
Gender: Feminine

Usage: English, Biblical

Pronounced: MER-ee (English), MAR-ee (English) [key]

Usual English form of Maria, which was the Latin form of the New Testament Greek names Μαριαμ (Mariam) and Μαρια (Maria) - the spellings are interchangeable - which were from the Hebrew name מִרְיָם (Miryam). The meaning is not known for certain, but there are several theories including "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness", and "wished for child". However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love".

xx

I found this on another thread from a while back:
"It's a bit similar to the Irish name Muireann (pronounced mwirren). I found the following meaning for Muireann:
MUIREANN
Gender: Feminine
Usage: Irish, Irish Mythology
Means "fair sea", derived from Gaelic muir "sea" and fionn "fair, white". In Irish legend this was the name of the mother of Fionn mac Cumhail. "

From Googling it, I found that Muireann is pretty much the Irish version of Mirren, so the meaning "fair sea" would still apply.

Thanks ladies -I've only just got back to checking this thread - glad you could help - it's such a confusing name i picked there, lol. I still love her name no matter what it means - just would be nice to know!
