NHS waiting list for Lap in Surrey?

Just a quickie really...

I've been put on waiting list for laparoscopy and was told it would be up to 4 months!

2 weeks later and I have a letter for the pre op assessment in 2 weeks time. Does this mean I'm likely to get the op soon or could I still wait months after I have had the pre op?

I got all excited when I saw the pre op letter... Just want to get it done now!

Would love to hear peoples experiences

Hey hun i'm in surrey. I had my lap/hsg on monday. My pre op was a week before the actual op, i think that is standard? But when i got my letter for the pre op i also got my letter for the op in the same envelope. I would just call incase hun

i waited for lap&dye for 3 months and my pre-op appointment was 2 weeks before the operation. although they called me 2 months before the operation and offered to do it in a week because they had a cancelation.

Thanx ladies...

I only got my pre op letter along with the booklet of medical questions to fill in before the op but no mention of an op date... Seems odd really to schedule me a pre op and not have an imminent op date... What if my situation chgs between now and my op?

I'm hoping they send me the date soon... I just want to get it out the way...

Hey hun if they dont send you a date by the time you go in for your pre op just ask the nurses when you get there hun. Usually they are quite good and will find out for you.

Oh a little tip someone gave me. When you go in for your operation take some polo mints in with you. After the op make sure you have a couple and continue sucking on them as it helps ease the pain you will get in your shoulder from the gas. They were a godsend to me and the most simplest but best advice i could have been given.

i had a lap under st peters hospital. I had the pre-op 2 weeks before. i was told that the op would be done within 4 weeks of the pre-op. fingers crossed you get a date soon.
i bought colpermin tablets as the gas was the worse pain of all. good luck, keep us posted! xx

hey ladies... another quick question....

I kow when they do the surgery they need to insert a catheter..... is it still in when you come round, or do they remove it before you wake up?

i dont know why but i have a massive fear of having one, and having it removed after..... it must burn and hurt like hell!! LOL...

you wake up without the catheter and as far as i know they do not always use it anyway. In my case it did hurt and for almost a week so I went to GP who told me that I got UTI so I had to take antibiotics. I was not very impressed with the NHS...
