My little girls name is Jessica. I quite often call her jess, and most of my family do too. I do really like jess, even before I had her I always thought it would be nice for when shes a bit older.

Anyway, I really dislike 'jessie', but im worried people will call her that anyway. I've asked family not to, I don't think any of them like it anyway. But do you think its likely her school friends etc will call her this?

I know its a bit silly but it would bother me if she started calling herself Jessie :haha:

I dont think her friends will necessarily call her Jessie. My eldest is called Caitlyn and I always drummed it in to her that was her name, not Kate or Katie! As far as I am aware none of her friends call her it though she has started Secondary school now so may creep in! xx

I'm sure she will just get nicknamed Jess. All the Jessica's I've known have only ever been nicknamed Jess. I've never heard of a female Jessie, apart from the singer Jessie J! So although it's possible, I think people are going to just go for the shortened name of Jess for ease.
I'm similar with not wanting my LO to be nicknamed - my brother called her Hol once and I really didn't like it. Even though my own nickname for her is Hollybob!

I called my LO Isabelle with the intention of shortening it to izzy. But I can't do it, I always call her Isabelle. Some friends and family call her izzy and I don't mind, but I think i will always be calling her Isabelle!

My LO's name is Jessica too, but as yet we haven't shortened it to Jess or Jessie. I want to keep it this way for as long as possible, although I'm well aware that when she starts school she may prefer a shortened version.

I'm sure if you've always called her Jess this is likely to be what she'd ask friends to call her, although some may well need correcting at first!

I think if she gets called Jess by family most of the time she'll probably introduce herself as Jess when older! I've not met a Jessica thats ever referred to herself as Jessie.

My LO is John but I have never called him that, he's Johnny. xo

My eldest is Madeleine. In the very early days I started to call her maddie. As she has got older I just don't think it suits her. She calls herself Madeleine and I can't bring myself to call her maddie any more. Some family members do though and it winds me up! My second is called Eloise and we call her squeezie!

Squeezie :haha: that's adorable!

Thanks everyone. I'm sure if I drum in the Jessica/Jess thing then she will ask people to call her that. Like im Jennifer and I get called Jen, no ones ever called me jenny. Should have thought of that before I posted :haha: if I introduce myself its normally Jen, or if its am employer etc I say Jennifer, then people normally ask what I like to be known as

:)

I doubt it would but could happen. My sister's name is Melissa and people shorten it to Mel. Both her and my mum hate it as Mel is short for Melanie not Melissa but people still do it, even her friends lol. Although on the other hand my name is Kristina (well usually it's Krissie I'm only Kristina if I'm in trouble lol) and my mum was worried people would shorten it to Kris but no one ever does xx

I think her friends will end up calling her jess rather than Jessie to be honest!

My little girls name is Charlotte-99% o the time I call her Charlotte, but sometimes I will call her Lottie. I think she will become a Lottie more as she grows up though. All of my friends call her Charlotte, except one who calls her Lottie. My dad on the other hand calls her Charlie (which I don't have a problem with at all) I don't think I've ever heard him refer to her as Charlotte. My poor daughter is going to grow up very confused... :haha:

I was worried about that when picking out baby names. That's why we went with Owen. You can't shorten it ;) I know quite a few Jessicas and they all go by Jess. I only know one Jessie but that's her given name, not her nickname.

Same my children's names are Toby and Lily hard to shorten. We do to Lils and Tobes but they're just affectionate pet names and highly doubt their friends will call them by those names when they're older haha x

Aww I love the name Toby! I could never use it though cuz I had a rabbit called Toby! I always waste names I like on animals :( lol x

When I was pregnant with him and told people I was going to call him Toby I usually got "but that's a dog/cats name" grrr. No it's my baby's name lol x

I'm sure they will call her jess if that how she introduces herself, I never thought about it when I called my daughters miah and Georgia as not people call miah 'mimi' (pronounced meme' and Georgia gets called georgie by everyone now and she's 4months xxx

I also have Toby in mind, if I ever have a boy. I fell in love with it from a horse named Toby, but it wasn't mine or even a friend's, just one I read about, so it feels safe to use it. It seems strong, and short, and I like it. And, its not over common!

My son is James Andrew. Lots of people try to call him Jim, jimmy, or jimbob (lol) but I'm pretty firm with them that his names James Andrew or just James.
