So I won't be returning to work I have decided .

I feel like I should let my boss know sooner rather than later but my maternity pay should continue until april.

If I give my notice in will this affect my maternity pay? At the mo I get smp paid via my work . If I'm not longer working for them- how will I get the remainder of my pay?

Do people usually wait to the end of the 9months to hand in notice ? X

I just let my old boss know about 2 months before I was due to go back only because she did the rotas 2 months in advance. I was paid normally until my mat pay ended then was also paid my holiday that I was entitled to as well xxx

Thanks xxmy heartxx. I know I could wait until I'm due to go back but I know my boss is going to be wanting to know what I'm going to do. I expect he hates the fact he can't just outright ask me !

If I've made my morning up by November - it seems a bit harsh to my work to not say anything till April because they could plan around it x

X

You might what want to check your terms of employment in some companies you may be liable to pay back money if they paid your maternity and you don't return. A lot require you to work for 6 months after your maternity leave.

Hi crownest. - I only get the smp- so it's just the basic . My boss hasn't given me any extra on top so I think I'm ok regarding not owing any money so that's a plus ! X

Mine topped mine up for 6 weeks to my full wage and I wasn't required to pay it back thankfully ☺

Great just mentioned it as a friend of mine was caught.

You can tell them whenever you want. SMP won't be affected at all, it will continue to be paid by your employer up until the last day (they claim it back from the government) I'm assuming the only benefit to telling them later is that you will be accruing annual leave in your absence which they will owe you at the end, I'm not sure how that would work if you were to leave earlier.
