Hi

Currently my MIL has LO which is fab i work 2 week days and they vary each week but she has said shes not going to look after anymore babies once LO starts school
We are TTC #2 so that throws us a little as we assumed she would have new baby as well

My question is how does being a shift worker work with nursery places
Do i still pay the 2 days i work or do i need to pay the full week to guarantee a place each week?
Would i need to work set days?

Im so confused and not sure i can afford it if i have to pay all week even if baby is not there

for private a nursery you only pay for the days the LO is there but it may be difficult to get flexible days ie changing the days every week.

a child minder may be more flexible and usually cheaper

could you ask for set days?

look at your employers flexible working and parental policy. you may be able to apply for set days

:hugs:

Maybe a nanny looking to work PT, ie someone with her own child? As long as it is two days guaranteed work a week I can't see someone minding if it changes all the time assuming they don't have another job.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a childminder can only have so many children of a certain age in her care at one time. So say if she is only allowed one baby- you might need her on the day she has another baby in her care so can't help you.

I would try and look for set days

Thanks
Im a nurse so set days are not really an option for me
I will ring around a few nurserys and childminders and see what they say
I can see the problem with the childminder though as you have explained they are limited with numbers of children so will be more problematic

Its often possible to find a nursery who is flexible if they have a lot of places. I know this isnt the case for most though!

The nursery where my DD goes is very flexible and they have always been able to have her at short notice or swap the days. They have another nursery (same company) in a different location where that isnt possible and they didnt have ANY vacancies, never mind flexible ones.

It may just be worth calling round all of the ones you can travel to in a reasonable amount of time.

Are you in a hospital?
Try the hospital one, they may be more flexible- after all that is who they are set up to serve!
