Nursery Hunting...

I am not due to go back to work until next April and am wondering when I should start hunting out nursery's.

I go back next april and we have been to see one today as spaces are a premium especially at the good ones!! Good luck x

Yep, the earlier the better, especially if you want your LO to go to a really good one (if you live in an area where spaces go quickly). Alex starts in January and we started looking in April (so 9 months in advance). We filled out his application form in June and he was accepted in July. x

it depends on your area i am in a rural area and had to put my name down when i was about 15 wks pregnant only got offered one place which has since fallen threw

As early as possible really. We started looking when I was 12 weeks pregnant, we thought it was a bit silly but places were already been booked out by then However, we ended up with a CM and it didn't work out and luckily found a nursery that could take her then when I had already retuned to work, so . . . check and get good feel qand if poss book as early as possible but there will be options closer to when you need him to go.

I've not even given birth yet but I have already had to put my babys name down at nursery for a June 2011 start. They were nearly full for the days I needed already

I'm back at work in April too, just part time mind, and we're looking at a nursery at the end of this month.

The problem I have is that my work DO NOT need to confirm my return to work days and hours until 28 days before my return date which pretty much f*cks up me putting Isaacs name down until then......in turn risking a place.

yeah call me naive but I had NO IDEA that I had to look for nurseries so soon. I need to go back to university end of September, and in order to do that, I'm having hubby work from home, my MIL taking Elijah on Tuesdays, one nursery on Thursday, and just found another for the days I'm due to go in on Friday. The nursery that I have for my son on Friday is already booked up through til 2012 for Tuesdays and Thursdays!!! WOW! Good luck in your search! xx

Thats awful Nic, I am not sure about mine at the moment, need to go and have a chat with my personnel office I guess. I only want to go back two days a week. As long as I earn the equivalent to my SMP then we will be fine. Would rather not have to worry at all to be honest. Really want to be a SAHM!!

I know...it's a bit of a pain in the ass. Worst case for us I guess, is that we'd have to put Isaac with a childminder until a place becomes available..but anyway, it may work out ok!

I HAVE to go back for 3 months, but during that time we're going to be thinking about me staying at home too!

Luckily (in some ways!) I am only on SMP, so have no obligation to go back.
Might just go and work at the local Co-op!!!

we started looking over year in advance and booked a year in advance. We had to at the time the places were filling, but now theres loads of space lol.
