I love the Jocasta - unfortunately people who I tell and know the Greek myth are a bit shocked and go and tell everyone else!
Any thoughts on whether should or not? Or any alternantives?????
xx

Hmmm...it's really nice, although knowing the myth...i wouldn't personally name my child that lol, but it is really nice!

That's the thing - most people I've told haven't heard of the myth but the few that have - well, you can imagine the response! Although one or two have actually googled it! I think I might stick with it, at this stage I know I shouldn't be thinking of baby names especially with all the uncertainty given my first was stillborn but can't help it. The only other name I liked for a girl was Evie and that was my daughters name and no way can I use it again.
Ho hum, decisions decisions!
xx

Personally I wouldn't, I have heard of the story and it's a bit of a weird one seeing as Jocasta marries her own son! I wouldn't really want the name attached to my child, but that's my personal preference!

But Jocasta didn't know it was her son! I've been thinking about it, and it's growing on me!

It's a lovely name but the whole Oedipus (SP?!?) thing just tars it a bit too much for me hun :flower:

Lovely name. Didn't realise it was oedipus's mother. It wouldn't bother me!

I've heard the name before and I can't say it'd bother me  I'm sure many names have not so pleasant associations but it won't stop people calling their kids them. xx

It is a tricky one isn't it?? And it's true that lots of names don't have particularly nice meanings - Cameron (one whose nose is bent), any kings name could be linked to nasty stuff they did and how many share the name of a mass murderer??
So I'm still mulling it over but it's top of the list at the moment!
Oh my the way don't mention this to your OH's ladies but my darling partner wants to choose a middle name - I said of course you can. For a boy Ka'lel (supermans birth name) and for a girl???????
STARFIGHTER
words fail me!!!

I've never heard the story! Can you fill us in??

LOL

I do like Ka'lel, but Starfighter? Lol that's funny :) Such a guy thing to say!

I may be out slightly with some of this but in greek mythology Jocasta was married to a king. Her son - Oedipus (probably spelt wrong!) - was taken from her at birth and she had no idea what happened to him. Oedipus then killed his father in battle and not knowing that it was his father in order to make ammends married the widow Jocasta - neither of them aware that she was in fact his mother! When this was later revealed she was so shocked and shamed she hung herself and he gouged out his own eyes and wandered into the desert with his daughter in shame.
I know - lovely tale but then it is mythology rather than established historical fact! Besides, when you meet someone called peter do you automatically think 'the yorkshire ripper' (peter sutcliffe)???
There will be more thought but think it's the one I like best so far!
xx

Aww Perdita seriously don't worry about it if you love the name. When I saw Jocasta I immediately thought of the designer Jocasta Innes...so I thought of elegance and art.

Cxxx

Well in the story she didn't know it was her son, so that's alright!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about it hun :)

I might be a rare one lol but I had never even heard of the story!!!
