Our babies are all grown up - December 2009 and January 2010 toddlers

Thanks for the visitor message MNORBURY :hugs: xx

I am soooo mad! I was all hyped up for Daisy's jabs and kept waking thinking of them last night. Anyway, we walked the 40 mins to the doctor surgery this morning. The letter said Daisy's appointment was today at 10am. Friday morning is usually baby clinic day too. We got there and I saw a sign saying that baby clinic was cancelled. I didn't think it would affect us as we were seeing the nurse and had a specific appointment and at the clinic you just turn up and wait your turn to see HV. The receptionist said Daisy wouldn't be able to have her injections as clinic was cancelled. I showed her my appoinment letter and she said 'oh we don't send out those letters, it is the NHS trust'. I said 'But it tells me to come today at 10 for her injections?' She said 'No sorry, we can't see you today. Clinic is cancelled and the nurse is fully booked now.' She told me to come back next Friday but I'm back at work and I can't :(. I said that I can't get to the clinic ever as I'm at work so I'll have to make an evening appointment and she said 'oh, I'm not sure about that. We like to keep the injections within the baby clinic sessions'. I just said 'right ok' and left as I could feel myself getting cross! So we had another 40 minute walk home all for nothing and now I have no idea when I'll be able to get the injections done. Grrr!:growlmad:

Oh no poor you, they really annoy me sometimes how they won't budge x

Oh JC that is SO annoying you did well to keep your calm, not sure that I would have managed it! It's so hard when you can't get to any of the clinics isn't it, I have the same issue. I know I could get DH or my mum to take her and I do get them to do weigh in occassionally but when it's jabs I just feel it has to be mummy!

Hi again ladies.

Evie's party piccies are lovely :) Poor love being poorly on her big day though. :(

JC how awful about the injections. I have to re-book ours as Ethan was sick. I'm going to re-book for the boosters and delay the MMR until April but he will def. get the MMR.
I think you're entitled to time off to take Daisy for her injections - I've had time off for his 10 month check. :)x
How exciting that you're TTC! We're thinking of trying from summer onwards and thought that was quite soon! Hope it happens quickly for you! You and Cattia can be baby buddies then too :) Any guilt from the work perspective? My head made me feel really guilty last time and keeps stressing how pregnancy 'disrupts' the children (another member of teaching staff was off shortly after me and 2 TAs also).

MNorbury I get what you mean about not wanting to share mummy time at the mo - I still worry that that would be an issue even with TTc in June but he'd be not far off 2 1/2 when the baby was born if we did conceive in June so he'd be a big boy and probrably off at nursery a few days per week :)

Ethan has been sleeping in his room since 5mo. I always thought I'd be keeping him in our room for ages, but we moved him into his cot at 4mo and he slept so well, we moved the cot to the other side of our room and he just slept so well in it. At this time we taught him to self settle and so because he was going down at 7pm and sleeping well I decided to put him in his room and get him used to it before he could sit up and look around for us and notice if we were there or not. He still woke at 11pm and 3am for a feed but I didn't mind getting up as I'd always gone into the nursery to make the feed and warm it. I don't think he really noticed. We always used to change his nappies in there anyway so he was familiar with the room and all that. I imagine it's a harder bond to break now. I love walking in to Ethan's room in the morning once he starts babbling away - as soon as he hears me coming he stops and listens out then I open the door and he jumps up to the side of the cot with a huge grin!!! I think if he was in our room and doing that I think it would be hard to move him out!

Hubby keeps saying how Evie should be in her own room, especially after tonight, she just won't sleep hence why I came down with her at 4.30am :coffee: I swear she'd give the duracell bunny a run for his money!

It's just the thought of being up and down all night and not having her right beside me :(

Aww. Does she wake a lot in the night?
I remember when Ethan was about 6mo there were a lot of posts in baby club saying that baby slept better in their own room. The longer you leave it the harder it is I think so you may as well wait until you're totally ready now :)

Yeah she does wake a lot, when we have a night where she only wakes around 3 times we think we've cracked it not nope! I'm sure she'll get there in her own time. I still bf so she always wants boob just to comfort but it's tiring, she's getting too big now to just plonk in our bed, she takes over :haha:. I've even contemplated putting a single bed in her room and staying with her until she sleeps better but I don't really want it to become a habit, I suppose we should try though!

The night before last Daisy slept 12 hours straight. She has never ever slept more than 3 hours before, ever. I couldn't believe it! Unfortunately I didn't sleep though as we had an attempted break in that night and I was too anxious to go back to sleep afterwards :(. I hoped maybe we'd finally cracked it but then she woke about 10 times again last night. I'm starting to wonder if Daisy wakes so much at night because she knows I'll breastfeed her for comfort and to try and get her back to sleep even though she doesn't need a night feed and isn't hungry. I might try and stop night feeds altogether. She is in her own room but never ever stays in there all night (well aprt from that night 2 nights ago!)

Abigail used to do that too JC - she would wake up four or five times a night and I'd always feed her but when I went back to work I was knackered so I knocked the night feeds on the head as I figured once she was on three good meals a day she didn't need them any more. I did find it hard though! You must be exhausted working and waking up at night too :(

Hi Girls,

Sorry not been on here lately, really not been well the past couple of days - think I've had the flu. I'm so worried Madi is going to catch it too. Lucky hubby has been off work to help me with her.

Madi got her jag appointment through for 12th January, will def need to go to this one as I cancelled the last one.

Hope you all are well :hugs:

Oh no that's terrible :hugs:, you must have been really unnerved, I wouldn't have been able to sleep either.

Wow to Daisy for sleeping so long though! Maybe she will do it more often now she knows she can. Evie definately knows that I will feed her, sometimes for daddy she will lie there and he'll pat her but with me she will not lie down atall and just cries and has a tantrum until I give her booby. I always give it her but I do believe that she would wake far less and settle much quicker if I didn't breastfeed, she won't have a dummy or bottle or take comfort from anything else though, plus she's not the best eater so I always wonder what if she actually is a little hungry.

Did Abigail stop waking when you stopped the night feeds? Did you have lots of tears and how did you go about stopping? Thanks :flower:

In the end we did the Sleepsense programme with her. It took about a week to get her to sleep through. Yes we did have tears, I didn't leave her to cry as such, but I sat next to her and said a 'key phrase' (we repeated "sleep time now Abigail, night night") until she settled back to sleep. I would only pick her out of the cot if she was really distressed. I was really surprised at how quickly it worked, I think once she realised she wasn't getting milk she just decided it was not worth waking up any more! Before we tried that I did try a few nights of offering her water instead of milk, but that didn't work as she just got more annoyed and upset. I think if we'd just been on one night feed then I might have kept it going for longer; it was the fact that she was up three or four times a night and I knew at that age she didn't need to be having that much milk in the night, it was just habit.

I'm not sure about delaying it. I'm not allowing her to get the booster jab and mmr jab together so by the time she gets the booster jab and they then send an appointment for the mmr it will prob be another couple of months anyway. They are so slow here.

Madi has been sleeping through the night since her birthday :happydance:. I'm so happy but trying not to say it too loud cause it wont last :dohh:
I just decided to stop the night feed and she started to sleep through. She is still having her nap mid morning which I'm suprised about. Although i'm saying she is sleeping through the night which she is, I still need to go up to her about once or twice within the first hour or two of her going to sleep (between 7 and 9pm) just to re-settle her. No hardship really.

Since Daisy's birthday she has also had a few pretty decent nights sleep (for her anyway!) She has had a few awake all night ones too but last night she slept 10 hours with only one wake up. Unfortunately the 10 hours were from 6pm until 4am so I've been up since 4 :coffee:. She went to bed at 20 to 8 tonight so if she does 10 hours again that will be 20 to 6 and I get up for work around then anyway so that would be perfect, but we'll see. Miss Daisy is extremely unpredictable!

Hi all, just checking in :) Cattia, Sleepsense sounds like what we did with Ethan but I just did what I thought, didn't know it was a 'programme' lol
Ethan started going down by himself at 4.5 months - we shushed and repeated 'night night' and tapped his tummy or back in a heartbeat pattern... after a week that worked. Then at 7mo he had 2 odd nights of not waking for a bottle, so I figured he didn't 'need' the milk and the next few nights when he woke I took him out of the cot as usual and offered water and repeated that for a few nights then he stopped waking. He woke about once a week for another couple weeks, by 7.5 months was sleeping through. Had 2 hours of offering water and shushing him and tears and rocking him to soothe him the first night but it soon worked. I think the first night it the worst. I imagine it's a little harder when bfing? I could pick Ethan up and rock him but I imagne if baby is rooting then it's much more difficult!

I am really starting to think breastfeeding equals bad sleeping! I'd never post that point of view elsewhere in the forum for fear of a backlash but I think I can quite safely say it in here  :).

Daisy slept a 6 hour stretch last night so not too bad but the night before she was up every hour from 1 until we got up at 5. I always end up feeding her back to sleep as it the only thing that works but I have made a rod for my own back.

I went to Daisy's gymboree class yesterday. It is the first time it has been on in almost a month. Three other babies we know, two the same age as Daisy and one a month younger, were either standing confidently or walking and they weren't doing it last time we went. It is amazing how quickly babies develop and learn! I wish Daisy was doing it too though as her little friends spent the whole time standing up and toddling about! She did stand unattended for a few seconds yesterday though for the first time, so maybe she'll be walking too in a few weeks :).

I too wouldn't say anything negative about breastfeeding anywhere else on here, I'm too much of a wimp lol. Whenever anybody says anything at home though I always find myself on the defence and not admitting that I think bf has added to the probs.

Evie is wanting boob more and more for comfort lately, she only ever used to want it when she was tired, hubby keeps harping on "she doesn't need it" so he's doing my head in! I worry sometimes as I really can't see her ever wanting to stop, I have to admit it would be nice to get a bit of routine and 'me time' back if you know what I mean but she gets too upset if I don't give it her then I feel mean as I think she didn't choose to be bf (silly I know!)

Are you planning on bf no2 Jchihuahua? I am in 2 minds now, if I do I think I'll def combi feed or introduce ebm very early on.

Evie stands for a few minutes but wobbles quite a bit, she's been doing it a few weeks now but won't take a step. Sounds like Daisy won't be long now either :)

We've got to book Evie in for her jabs next week :(, dreading it already! Did you sort Daisys?
