Outcome of a sweep

I was 3 cm when I had mine and 1 week overdue contractions started within half an hour and the next day I had my baby!

i had mine at 38+1 and was just 1cm dilated when consultant did it... she did not sound hopeful though and an appointment was made for the following week. about 36 hrs later contractions started and 25 hrs after that i was holding my beautiful little boy!

I had a sweep on my due date and then went for a two hour walk (dragged dh round a shopping centre with no stopping for coffee!). I had a massive show about 3 hours after the sweep and dd was born 24 hours after the sweep.

Good luck - hope it all starts for you very soon :flower:

I had two sweeps. One at 40+1 and one at 41+1.
They did bugger all and I still went into labor naturally!

I had 3 sweeps when not dilated but cervix softish, but nothing happened!

Oh and I did long walks, sex, clary sage baths and curry after all of them and none of it worked!

I had quite a few sweeps during my 4 days (!) induction (at 41+3 to 42+0), I was not dialated at all. sweeps, gel did not do anything apart from giving me pains I will never forget, ever... I ended up with a c-section after 4 days -failed induction- just to find out that my LO was breech. Thanks God I did not let them breaking my waters. A scan should have saved me from all of these pain , but for some reasons they don't like to do it. As much as I would love another baby, I am just absolutely petrified from the experience I had with my first one :S

thats crazy that a breech position went undetected for so long! crazy.

thank you all so much for the replies, its really appreciated. its really interesting to read everyone's different experiences. i had a really long pre-labour with my first that ended in an emergency c-section due to baby being back to back and big so this time they're trying to get my baby out earlier to have a better chance of a successful vbac. i had a sweep yesterday to hopefully make me a little more 'favourable' for an appointment on thursday where they're going to try and break my waters. little bit scary hearing about all your slow labours as if mine is too slow i'll end up with another c-section. makes me wonder whether breaking my waters is the right way to go (if its even possible as i might not have dilated at all). but we shall see. thanks for the good wishes xx

First sweep I had 1 day over due and nothing. Another sweep 7 days over, 1 cm dilated, nothing. Had to be induced at term+12 xx

I was 3 days overdue and 1cm dilated (had been for several weeks) when I had a sweep and I went into labour 24 hours later.

did yo have any cramping or any other signs during those 24hours or did it just start suddenly?
