Hey,

I had 21 day bloods done on the 2rd of Feb. because I was diagnosed with PCOS in Feb 08.

I wasn't TTC at the time so didnt really bother me if I was ovulating or not but when I started TTC in June 2009 I knew I would need help.

I didnt have a period from November 09 until Feb 4th 2010 (I think) but I went to the doctors around the 27th of Jan 2010. I told him I had tiny specks of blood on the 15th of Jan so he arranged for me to have blood samples taken to see if I'm ovulating on my own. Apparently thats when I should of been ovulating - but I think he was wrong.

After the blood was taken on the 3rd I got my period like the next day so I think the blood samples were taken at the wrong time of my monthly cycle.........or is there a chance it would still pick up ovulation for that month??

He said if it comes back I'm not ovulating I will STILL have to wait until i have been TTC a year before he will help :grr: so I need loads of prayers that it comes back saying I am ovulating on my own as I dont think I could wait until June doing nothing!!!

Fingers crossed for me please. After the day I had yesterday I dont want anymore bad news :dohh: xx

Hi hun,

Some doctors are just rubbish! If your doctor was worth his/her salt, they would know that ttc with PCOS puts you at a disadvantage immediately and would get the ball rolling for you without making you wait. That attitude annoys me so much!

And because ur AF arrived so soon after your blood tests, it wouldn't really be CD21 tests so won't be much use (in my expert opinion lol)

Have you had an ultrasound scan to see how severe your PCOS is? My G.P told me my blood tests were normal, but I knew he was wrong. I paid for a private ultrasound scan and was diagnosed with quite severe PCOS (just had my 2nd round of IVF).

If you have the time or patience to wait til June then hang on in there. If not, give your GP a telling off and a kick up the behind, or just get yourself another GP who has a clue x

(Sorry but I do get a little gung-go about GP's who are very slack!)

Thank you so much for your reply! Yeah I had an internal examination and an internal scan done to check everything and I have multiple cysts on both ovaires.....he said there was no eggs in my ovaries or where they should be (or something like that) so I asked him if there was no eggs then Im infertile....he said thats not true...but didnt explain it any further!

Isit possible there was no eggs there because I just had my period when I had the ultrasound done????

I have also had blood tests done to check my thyroids and hormone levels but they apparently came back fine. is that even possible with PCOS?? (this was with my other doctor)

I also thought because PCOS was a fertility issue I would be given medication straight away? whats the point in wasting a whole year when I know im not "right" to create a baby?? I have heard its possible to conceive naturally but considering I have mulitple cysts on BOTH ovaries surely that should get him moving?? My appointment is at 10 o clock so I will let you know what he says! If your right chances are he will want to do another set of blood tests 21 days from this period........ARGH such agro! Thanks again hun I will let you know xxx:hugs:

you cant see eggs on an ultra sound, they are microscopic. Follicles contain eggs. so amybe he said he couldnt see any follicles. If that is the case that is strange
Best way to tell if you have follicles ie: eggs is by having a blood test called the AFC, antra follicle count and this will tell you how many follicles you have, the more the better!

Yo can only get this test done privately. GP's dont do it, in fact he wont even know what it is

At the clinic I go to I had to have the test that Muncho described. They called it an AMH test. AMH stands for Anti-Mullerian Hormone. AMH is produced by the egg follicle that the ovaries grow to prepare an egg for release into the fallopian tube. The levels of AMH found in the blood are an indicator of a woman’s ovarian function. Basically, an AMH test can tell you if your ovaries are releasing eggs.

The theory is that because the level of anti-mullerian hormone found in the blood does not fluctuate throughout the month, it could be an accurate predictor of whether a woman is still fertile and how many eggs she has left in her ovaries.

We went private and the test was part of our initial consultation. We didn't require a semen analysis as we had that done already. So it cost £400. :hugs:

AMH and AFC are pretty much the same thing, You could have either.

Thank you ladies! the test you described (about the whole egg's being released) sounds really good. I have just got back from the doctors. He tested my levels that "help the follicle grow" he also tested for "if there is a growing follicle" etc so I think they are quite similar to what your describing!

Well I thought my appointment was at 10am but it was at 9.20 I had to run down the road haha! Well the results came back and they are all............ NORMAL!!!! It looks like I am ovulating and I my body is healthy enough to make an egg mature....infact he doesnt even think I have PCOS! The only test that did come back a little high was my testosterone.....so he hasnt said for sure that I HAVEN'T got PCOS! Apparently the average womens is suppose to be 2.8 but mine is 3.1 - he also cant tell me why I'm "drying up" (they were the words he used which I shocked me )

But he HAS sent the details off to the fertility specialist in Northwick park hospital and he will contact me either about arranging a date to go up there or whatever else they do!!! I'm so happy to know I am ovulating and my body can produce an egg and help it mature and i can get pregnant on my own!!

He also said about the internal scan was that its NORMAL to have multiple cysts on your ovaries...if you didnt where would they form and mature and fall out off (they werent his words he used technical words lol) BUT if you have lots of LARGE cysts then there is a problem!!

He wants OH to do a sperm sample but my OH will feel abit weird about that I know what hes like! Do you know what he does? like can he do it at home and bring it in?? he wont like doing it in the doctors office!

Thank you ladies I know it was all your good lucks that I got good results! I feel like opening a bottle of wine and its only 10.00am haha! Thank you again xxx

hey NWP is one of my accounts!!

the only test that shows your egg growing is ESTRODIAL, this is what they measure when you have IVF. is this what he was talking about?

Do you mind if i ask you who your gp is, i used to work with GP's in NW london

good news about the PCOS!

Sounds like that was your FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) that he measured and not AMH. Like Muncho said most GPs don't even know what it is let alone use it and it's expensive. It's really only a fertility specialist that would perform an AMH test.

But glad you pleased with the result so far!!!

Some clinics allow you to bring the sample with you but it has to be within a strict time limit. Many clinics will make him produce the sample in the clinic as its more sterile, less chance of contamination and it's a fresh sample for whoever is testing it. It prob is best to do it in the clinic.

Yeah his name is Dr Bhatt (indian man) at the grove medical centre Northolt! He is quite strict. My aunt didnt like him and thought he was crap! My nan thinks he's good! He told me on my first appointment that he wouldnt help me TTC because of my age but I have been really nice to him and I think he likes me too (as a patient of course) so is really excited to help me get pregnant! (by the way he was acting today)

So if you have done this sort of thing before its correct to I'm ovulating now because of the tests yeah? I havent miss understood anything have I lol?? x

oh my old doctor was Dr Tam at the Velmont health centre (chinese) he didnt want to help me AT ALL!!

He done 4 blood samples so test loads of thing I have forgotten most of them but he said they are all normal EVERYTHING but testosterone is high! All he has to do is check OH sperm but other than that I'm like the average women in that department!! :happydance:

Oh I forgot to say muncho he is refering me to a man in Northwick park called "spinky" or something like that - I thought it was a nickname at first hahaha

i know DR B, he is on his own isnt he? Good that u got oin the good side of him. As jojo says if its your FSH that he measured and its low then thats good . Do you ahve your actual results ie: what they did and the numbers?

Shame about Dr Tam , belmont Hc is a good surgery!

on his own? how do you mean? I think there is only like one other doctor within the surgery. He has white hair yeah?! you know the man? He talked me through each of them saying "this test is to count this" and "this test is to count that" etc. but I cant remember what the numbers were. I think the main number for that maturing of the egg was 18.1 but dont quote me on it. He never printed me off a copy of the results I should of asked sorry.

Yeah Dr Tam blamed everything on smoking  the Belmont Health centre had like 3 different practices inside of it so was ALWAYS busy! Do you know this Dr "spinky" or some unusual name like that?? hes a fertility specialist in Northwich park??

no i dont know 'spinky' i know the fs at watford :(

Ok about these results and this is what we all mean about GP's being crap

My 1st fsh came back at 11.5. the range is 6-15. SO i was told its normal.
But its not normal coz anything over 10 is not good for TTC and actually soem IVF clinics do not treat fsh over 10 as i soon found out.

FSH can fluctuate very month. My 2nd month was 6. this was not a realistic reading as it woouldnt fluctuate that much.
So basically the results can come back as normal but if your are TTC they really need ot be a certain level
Dont be sorry about not getting a print out., You didnt know

YOu could call the surgery and pick up a copy. I do that each time so i have my own records

I'd def get a written copy. If you ever go elsewhere you can bring all test results with you. I kept copies of everything for that reason. Means you're less likely to have to repeat any tests and you can hand them over as opposed to trying to remember so many numbers

Yeah its only at the end of the road so I will run in and grab a copy! Hmmm I'm not sure! There was alot of low numbers on the results the only high one was 18.1 but that was good?! He didnt say anything about them fluctuating :( does that mean....I might be ok this month but next month I wont be  oh man that sucks!

Well I will wait and see what the FS says when he calls me, but until then I'm just gunna :sex: as :witch: has just left and he said I have a good chance of doing it on my own! I told OH about the sperm count.....he was not impressed :nope: he said NO straight away so I just lied to him and said "well I told my GP you wouldnt be happy to do it and my GP said well I need to rule everything out and if he's not happy to provide a sample then he must not really want to do this and have a baby" Then OH said....alright! I am mean......but it needs to be done! He wants me to find out if he can do it at home!!

Thanks again :hugs: xxx
