It’s ridiculous I’m already thinking about this, but I’m sure I’m having a boy - we’ve had names picked out for both sexes for ages which we love - the boys name we like best is Ash, but whenever I’ve told anyone, they’ve gone - oh right so Ashley, or Ashton or something! I don’t like them at all - I like Ash but not short for anything! Middle name has to be William as it’s hubbys family tradition (I’m not overly keen as I like unusual *pixie* type names but it means a lot to my husband so it’s growing on me).
So it’s Ash William H.....
Do you think people will get that it’s just Ash, or would you assume it’s short for something?

Personally, I'd think it was short for something, but I'd call him what you want me to call him.

I'd assume it was short for something too. My Ollie often gets called Oliver which he isn't, but I really wish I had called him that now as I much prefer them having a more formal name on the birth certificate.
It doesn't matter though if that's what you prefer and it's a lovely name x

I would assume it's short for something, but if you introduced him as Ash then that is what I would call him.

Thank you all. It’s putting me off it slightly :/ I just can’t think of any longer versions of it that I like enough.
Loraloo I love your kids names - Eden is joint top place for our girls name at the moment.

Actually Asher is growing on me, but I would always call him Ash I think.

I would assume it was short for Ashley/Asher/Ashton but I wouldn't let that put you off! I always get asked if/what DS's name (Ted) is short for (Theodore), I tell them but then everyone calls him Ted anyway, no one tries to call him Theodore (not that he/I would mind if they did).
