ph level of amniotic fluid?!?!?!

so i thought my water broke this morning, but then me and the doc on call were convinced it was just urine leaking.
(i did not go in to get checked)
anyways, i heard that you could check your own ph level at home with the pool ph level strips.
i checked it and the strip said 7.8 was the ph level.
what does this mean?

The pH of normal vaginal discharge is slightly acidic (around 4.5-5.5) while amniotic fluid is neutral or slightly basic (pH of 7-8).

So if you're getting a reading of 7.8 I would say there's a good chance your water broke. Might want to retest though, just to be sure. Obviously doing a pH test at home isn't definitive but I'd say that's enough evidence to merit getting checked out!

If you really aren't 100% sure I would go get checked. It's not worth just guessing IMO.

Urine can also have a pH in the 7-8 range so you defiinitely want to make sure the sample comes from your vagina.

anyone have any hints as to how i get just fluid?
i have been trying to get a sample to test on the strip, but all i am getting is discharge, i dont think i can reach to get just fluid.

should i wait for labor to start or should i call l&d. i want a natural birth.
my doc said that they usually allow 24 hours. and that was 14 hours ago. should i just wait it out and call closer to that cut-off time?

so being said that urine could have my ph screwed up,
i tested my urine. reading was below 6.8. i then retested my panties, and reading was 8.4.

If it's not easy to do I probably wouldn't bother - you don't want to risk hurting yourself. Maybe it's time to call the doctor again, or just go in?

I would just go in and get checked. If nothing else, it will ease your mind and you'll be able to figure out wtf is going on.

well i went in. and it was not amniotic fluid. so i guess i just peed on myself..
