what do you think of this:

I had a lovely weekend. It was hubby’s birthday last week so we had a BBQ with a few friends then yesterday we spent the day up by the local lake with a picnic. I got a few shots of friends just mingling as I wanted to get some practice at taking candid shots of people for when we go to the wedding in Italy. I need to look at them all on my actual laptop screen so the images are bigger but from flicking through them on the camera they look quite good so hopefully I should get quite a few good shots out of it.

Got a busy week at work again this week, this will continue now until the end of term (only 3 weeks to go – thank god!). Not sure how much chance I’ll get to pick up my camera this week but am going to try and get a few pictures this week if I can.

that sounds like a plan hun. get the other credit all cleared up and you'll appreciate the new camera even more coz you had to wait on it. gives u time to research everything fully too. :)

Hey ladies, some beautiful pictures in this thread.. I've just spent about an hour looking through most of the pages lol

I was hoping one of you might be able to give me some tips about learning how to use my camera? I don't have a clue what half the functions do and when to use what setting (ie. "normal", "macro", "scene" etc) and then I won't even go into the additional settings like ISO, shutter speed, exposure etc!

At the moment, to take pics of my LO, I use "normal" mode with colour set to 'warm' and let the camera manually select ISO and shutter speed.. It gives a better picture than the "baby mode".

I'd really love to learn how to use my camera as a lot of the pics I take are really unflattering and in the picture, she ends up looking nothing like she does in real life!?

So much useful information in these pages, it's just a shame I don't understand even the basics, let alone what you're all talking about

nice compact!
to start with i would leave the settings on auto so you can get used to it. leave white balance and ISO the same. when you're looking through the view finder you will see what shutter speed and ap it's set itself too if you can get used to that you will get a better understanding of the other functions.

If you set the camera to shutter priority it will select the ap according if you set it to appature it will set the shutter accordingly sometimes you might be aiming for a different image where by you'd want to set it to manual when you do this you will need to set everything.

I hope this helps
