Pineapple?

I was looking at pineapples, but none of them seem too nice here yet.

Lots of walking is supposed to help bring labour on, I guess I should get my butt doing some haha. And I started the raspberry leaf tea again, I stopped before because I was waking up with bad cramps and got paranoid lol. But now im just about fullterm.

Where did you get the raspberry leaf tea! I was looking for some the other day and couldn't find any. I didn't think it was supposed to bring on labour though, just strenghten your uterus so it has more productive contractions???

I heard that you have to eat the core and you need to eat about 7 or 8!
I have been having a bit of pineapple because it's yummy and nothing has happened! Raspberry leaf tea also does not induce labour.

Yeah I heard you need to eat that many too.

RL tea is for strengthening the cervix I believe rather than inducing labour.

Ye - its a uterine tonic rather than labour inducing.

I started RL tablets at 33 wks.

Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain which is thought to help to soften the cervix and so bring on labour.

Is it safe?
There is very little available research. Each pineapple contains only very small amounts of bromelain so you would need to eat as many as seven to have any effect. The most likely side-effect of eating large amounts of pineapple would be a severe case of the runs.

Does it work?
There is some debate about the role played by bromelain on prostaglandins, which soften the cervix to prepare it for labour. Some studies actually suggest that bromelain inhibits prostaglandin activity while others think the opposite. Regardless of this, eating large quantities of pineapple is likely to stimulate the gut and bowel and, as with castor oil, could kick-start the uterus into action by that means.

How do I try it?
The pineapple must be fresh: bromelain is destroyed by the process of canning or juicing.

I cant seem to find the information, but its only a certain part of the pineapple. Either the core or the part closest to the skin. I cant remember though, my biology teacher told us couple years ago.
