How long have you given yourselves to plan your wedding?

DF wants to get married next year, but i'm thinking probably the year after to give us time to get some money together etc.

When did you book the venue and start planning properly? Had you started saving before you set the date?
We havent even set the date yet! I'm a bit scared/excited/nervus to though, i'll start putting pressure on myself to have everything perfect and ready in time, but then i dont want to set the date and then not have enough time to plan LOL!! Why do i always make things more complicated then they have to be?!!

we have 16 months left!
we allowed our selves over a year to plan and pay for it!!

A year. Most of the money doesnt have to be paid until atleast 2 months before - so gives us 10mons to save.

Alot of the stuff doesnt really need doing til 6-8mons in advance but I'd book the venue/church/registrar when you've set a date

we had 9 months to do all the planning.
We had been together nearly 8 years before he asked me, so I figured I wasn't going to waste any more time! :D

As it happened, I think I could have done it in 6 months.

5 weeks, LOL

3 weeks left and everything is sorted :D

We've been engaged for nearly 2 years but only actually set a date and have been properly actively planning since July. We get married in April so will only have been planning properly for 9 months at the time we get married! The venue we've booked was actually shocked that we've been planning even that far in advance- I think the man had to buy a new diary special!! Also, the registrar's 2010 diary seemed empty!! So if you're in a small town then you don't need a lot of time. It's actually the more expensive and showy places that get booked up quicker so you can plan with hardly any time available if you've decided to go low-key or budget, in my experience anyway!

Beca

We've allowed 18 months - now got 7 left - it flies by! Booked venue straight away then every month booked something different. We have now calculated that between now and the wedding we need to be saving £1400 per month ouch!!!!

I am hoping to marry in Mexico in February 2011, we have 16 mths but until the travel agents release flights / accomodation prices we cannot book. I hope to get it booked up within the next 1-2 months so we can start the planning.

We booked our wedding about 2 weeks ago for next august.

We figured we could save the amount we need so why not go for it!

I find all the planning so so exciting!

:happydance:

xXx

We got engaged on Saturday and are booking it next month for next October so we will have less than a year.

Given that we want the most relaxed, casual and fun wedding possible it's loads of time and I won't be loosing any sleep about napkins or turning into a Bridezilla!! Ill buy a dress, sort some flowers, show up and jobs a good un'!!

snap!

we're having a nice relaxed wedding in disney in florida, booked it practically a year to the day :cloud9: different for us as it requires minimal planning :happydance: one wednesday we booked the hotel, flights and wedding package, the next wednesday i had picked and ordered my dress :happydance: i now liaise, in our own time, with wedding coordinators and all sorted :happydance:

We've given ourselves 23 months to plan the wedding - already booked the venue (on the only saturday left for that month!!), photographer and entertainment :D Only booking the 'big' things just now and will probably start planning everything else when we've got about a year to go.

I think how much time you need really depends on how much you've got going on and what type of wedding you want - we would have been getting married next year if we weren't expecting our little bundle of joy :D

We got engaged Valentines Day this year, went to book the church beginning of March & got married in August.. We had a perfect wedding day.

Are you from Portsmouth, UK Pixie19 ?

We got engaged last April and only decided this August that we were going to get married. We originally said 2011 which would have given us about 1 1/2 - 2 years to plan, b ut I found my perfect wedding dress so we decided on September next year. So we had just over 1 year to plan.

We didn't have any savings previously but are now saving about £450 -£500 a month, we've paid the deposit on the car, the photographer, the venue and the registrar. I have already bought my flowers and OH Aunty is arranging them for us, I have just ordered the invitations and have all the stuff for the table plan when I do it :) Im pretty organised LOL xxxx

We've have given ourselves 12 months .. which is now down to 10

So far the ceremony is booked and paid for, i have my dress, save the date cards are out but thats it. We arent having anything fancy though so theres not a huge deal left to do, my main worry is the catering for the evening buffet, i cant seem to find anyone reasonable that i like :hissy:

holly have you been along to any wedding fayres, as i've seen caters there that often offer discounts hon x

We set a date 18 months after we decided to get married and TBH had most of the "big things" sorted within a week or 2 (venue, registrar, catering, photographer and DJ) so now it's the fripperies and money that need sorting!

we got engaged xmas 2007 and set the date for July 2009,so just over 18 months planning and i can't tell you how quickly the time went in!! Booked the venue in the January and bit by bit by then after.
