Please help me -- But please don't judge or take offence..

i have a slightly O/T question for everyone with ginger babies...what color was LOs hair at birth?

i'm a ginger but LO was born with almost black hair...its lightened a little but can it go red from here? i was thinking it cant because my hair was pretty much red off the bat as a baby...but can it go from almost black to red?

Maria was born with very dark hair then it turned blond and now it looks like it might have a touch of ginger in it, so yeah, its possible :)

Interesting! I know me and my sister, also ginger, were bald then red lol...i didnt think it could go from dark to red! DH has very dark brown hair so i figured his genes won lol.

Have red haired babies/ people got that fiery temper or is it a myth?!?

I dont think its true for me...i had a temper in my early teens but i think that was puberty :haha: i havent had one since. I dont think i would dub my sister as having a temper either.

I'm a redhead - and I adore it! I'll be honest I didn't when I was younger, but I never got any real stick for it. No more than my other friend had stick for wearing glasses, or another friend had stick for a birth mark on her arm. Kids will find anything to pick on.

As for temper - I have been known to be quite firey - but more so in my teens. Apparently I was quite angelic as a little girl!

Also, interestingly, any attention I got from men seemed to be because of my hair firstly - they seemed to love it!

I pretty much knew I wouldn't have a redhaired baby - as DH is very dark and there is no red in his family at all, so genetically the chances were small. But I was still hoping for one. Next time maybe :-)

Here's my hair in all its flaming glory - and Madeline and I looked very shocked at whatever was happening in The Night Garden x

I think its just a myth- my husband is ginger and is the least fiery person i know!

Before i write the strangest myth about red hair that i ever heard, can i just add a disclaimer!!!! I love red hair, my husband is ginger, my baby is going to be strawberry blonde and i used to dye my hair reddy/ginge till i accepted that it just didnt suit me!

When i was younger i was standing at the bar with a friend of mine who was ginger, the bar lady asked if she could smell his head!! when he asked why she replied "Because I've heard that all ginger peoples' hair smells of wee"

I couldn't believe it!!!! was so rude and just ridiculous!!!

Haha, I smiled at this because me and my OH are joking about having a ginge! My grandad was a hearty carrot top, me and OH are blatent 'closet gingers' as our friends call us (because he has a gingery beard, hair and brows and my hair is naturally strawberry blonde)

Yes ginger hair gets ribbed, but so does everything else... I think its important to reassure your child about their hair ... whenever your brushing it, washing it etc tell them how lovely it is. It is about building up their self confidence because they will get teased at some point, if not about their hair then about something else because that is life..... it will be their little personality that determines how it affects them , how they fit in sociably .. not their hair colour!

kids are generally bullied due to a lack of confidence. do whatever you can to ensure LO is filled with self-confidence, she'll be absolutely fine x

DHs aunt is very dark haired but her husband is a ginger... They had 4 kids... 2 gingers and 2 dark browns...it can happen! Oh and no other red heads in DHs family.

so I'm going to say that I was really hoping my son would not be a ginger. Though its not for the usual reasons.

Its because my older brother has red hair and he got all the attention even though I was the younger sibling (and much cuter darn it!). So I have some lingering resentment :haha:

One of the mot beautiful people I know has gorgeous ginger hair. I always thought she dyed it, but no it is natural!!!! I think they getnteased out of envy. I love gingers!

Im so proud to have a red headed baby and he gets so much attention that I put a hat on him if Im going to get some groceries or something and in a hurry so Im not stopped by all the people that want to look at him!! I guess its different where you are?? here in the US people LOVE red headed babies!

My LO has red hair, just like his dad. Apart from a few mindless idiots everyone adores it and we get stopped loads. I know im biased but he is just gorgeous.

Kids will get bullied for everything whether its red hair, glasses, i was bullied for being to slim but if they have the confidence they will just ignore it. This is my LO, i love his hair. Will be deleting the pic later for privacy

i know none of us want to think of our babies being picked on for anything, but seriously, i am shocked! i cant believe the amount of people in this thread praying / wishing / hoping that their babies change. At one point Ruby had really red blonde hair and i thought it was beautiful! My dad has red hair and i can honestly say that at no point in my pregnancy did i ever wish that she would be anything other than herself. your babies are all BEAUTIFUL, embrace them and be proud of how gorgeous they are!!!

It happened to me! Have posted this a few times in other threads, but my parents were very dark and mousy, my brothers are the same, my grandparents the same - but mine came from my great grandmothers on both sides of the family. The gene passed all the way down, but was always cancelled out by the other dominant one. Just so happened that my mum gave me her small "r" (recessive gene for red hair) and my dad gave me his...and voila, here I am!

I can only pass on the "r" gene, as it's all I have - but it needs to meet another "r" gene from DH...and I don't think he has one :nope:

He is adorable!

Do ppl still tease ginger? is it not just a thing in our generation?

I really don't see the problem with red hair?? All babies and children are adorable, and at one point or another they get picked on for something.

I love red hair it is so gorgeous. Don't worry about it. I'm sure she won't get bullied. I don't think its socially acceptable to make those silly ginger jokes anymore anyway!
