i had OC with my dd now 5 (born 2005) but never had it with my son (born 2003) after having my daughter thy told me i would have 80% chance of getting again.. was anyone else who's had this told the same? as we will be ttc baby no 3 soon... thanks

Hi everyone, I'm just letting you know that was induced because of my OC and SPD on Monday and Tyler Anthony was born wed 16/06/10 23:25 7lb 9oz and he was 37 weeks + 4 early.

To your question about repeat OC, I had it with my other son and got it this time the exact same week but it came back 10 times worse, sorry thats not good news for you, and they also said they don't induce now until 40 weeks! There is no way on earth I would have suvived that long cause my medication never worked this time so the itching was unbearable. Good luck I hope it goes better for you

40 WEEKS????? thats terrible i thought the whole reason for inducing was because of the risks with going full term?? i was scheduled in at 38weeks back in 2005 but as a big story was in our local paper of a lady who had OC whos baby was born sleeping @38wks i insisted on 37weeks and they did it i was induced at 9am and she was born at 4:40pm x

I haven't read all of this thread, so apologies if this has been mentioned already. I've had itchiness for a week or so, but only in certain areas and accompanied by a rash (not too strong, like tiny red spots). The main areas are the tops of my toes, the backs of my hands and the insides of my forearms. It emerged in the warm weather and I suspect it's just a heat rash - the pharmacist agreed and gave me some cream. It's almost cleared up, except for my toes which are still itchy at night.

I mentioned this to my midwife yesterday, she's usually pretty good and she didn't seem worried. Is OC widely know about?

I havnt read everything since it goes way back, but i did the last couple pages and im wondering about second pregnancies for anyone else who has this? and what the differences are that they noticed?

I had it at the end with my daughter (born nov 07) but i didnt know what it was then. all i understood is it was a reaction to the pregnancy hormone (which i don't think is true at all now?) and it made me really itchy and the creams she gave did nothing!! she finally induced me only in my last week because she said i was ready and would of gone in on my own in the next day or 2 anyways so why make me suffer more. I remember just crying at night cause i was soo itchy and i couldn't sleep but it was mainly my leg.

this pregnancy, due to having a computer now, i learnt what it actually is and i have been terrified since then of getting it again!! now im 35 weeks and the itchiness has been consistent for over 2 weeks now! i was sent in to be tested this week but i wont find out for another week. and i am very concerned that maybe my doctor doesn't take it as serious as it is? or if it is maybe less serious when it starts this late? I am also curious if it is the same each pregnancy? this time it is mainly my hands and arms. my legs and feet do itch but due to summer and bug bites it is hard to tell sometimes if it is a bite or not. I am so paranoid! and worried bout my baby and scared it will get as bad as it did the first time!

Im just really curious how peoples condition varied from one pregnancy to the next? Im so paranoid about it that this week is gonna seem to take forever and im almost more scared to find out it is again. even tho i am pretty confident this time it is, and my doctor thinks it is too. its hard to find good info about it.

any insight or experience would be wonderful!!!

1stly dont let ur gp fob u off.. i never had it with my 1st pregnancy (son is now 7) but got it with my 2nd pregnancy (daughter now 5) i was about 28 weeks wen i started itching all over i had a blood test and got my results the same day and spent a night in hospital to have liver scan and steriod injection 4 babies lungs.. they prescribed me something called ursodoxicacid (spelling may be incorrect) i was told tht 80% chance of getting it in future pregnancies... all i know is that depending on how high ur bile acids are.. is how itchy u get,.. but the urso brings ur bile acids down... I was induced at 37 weeks... are u being monitored throughout ur pregnancy??
we are currently waiting for a vasectomy reversal on the 22nd oct to try for our 3rd baby so fingers crossed i wint have it as bad x

i wonder if i got something like this, i googled itchy hands and feet during pg and came up with OC, i also have dark urine and thirst and small red spots on my tummy. today ive got what feels like heart burn but on the top of my bump... could this be bile related? i hope someone is still subscribed to this thread and can help x

i had an episode where i was seriously itchy i couldnt handle it i rang the doctor and she told me to take piriton i did and it helped a bit. i kept getting really hot flushes and feeling light headed. i had to sleep with the fan on etc which is very unusal for me but the the doct and m/w didnt think it was serious. a couple of weeks later i was put on iron tablets. the hot flushes have stopped but at my m/w appt today theu found +3 protein in my urine and im still itchy all over esp at night. shall i mention OC to her? i have had blood tests for liver functions and kidneys will OC show up? thanks x

hi i was diagnosed with oc about 5 weeks ago i had really severe itching and heartburn that made me throw up constantly im now 38 weeks 2 days and im being induced this sunday its not a very nice thing to have so if your not sure please talk to your midwife as this syndrome can cause stillbirth congratulations all xx

i will deffinately get it looked into thank you, i have really bad heartburn, it wakes me up loads in the night and have been sick with it a couple of times. x

I am having weekly blood tests to check for OC, consultant says they will check me weekly until it either shows up on a blood test or I deliver in 4 weeks...so far my blood tests have been clear.

I am itching to the point I make myself bleed I am now on Piriton tablets starting from today, I also suffer with severe acid which wakes me up being sick at night, but am on Ranitidine for that problem.

Consultant seems to think as my last 2 weeks blood tests have been clear that it could just be one of those pregnancy things.

I had OC with my LO and the itching is starting to come back. Ive been tested 3 times already but my bile levels have come back normal. The itching stopped for a few weeks but had started again. Also, I get horrid heartburn. It gets to an extent where I'm almost in tears every night and have to be sick to get rid of it. Could this be related to OC? Also, am I likely to get OC again?

Hi Mrs_KM i never had OC with my ds now 7 but i did with my dd now 5, i was told by my consultant that i had a 80% chance of getting OC again if i had anymore children, & i havent had anymore yet. If your bile acids are low this is good, they only monitor you if you acids are raised, i was prescribed urso tablets and it stopped the itching and my bile acids were reduced.. yes... i did read on one of the above sites that wen its 2nd time round you are more likely to be waiting for it expecig it to come and therefore more edgy on every itch and scratch you get xx

Ok, so after my last post above, the itching is horrendous and is stopping me from sleeping. MW suggested taking Prition but taking tablets makes me sick so that very rarely stays down. I was last tested for OC monday and a MW rang on Wed to say my bile levels were normal but didnt tell me what number they were! Im getting so fed up with this now. No one seems to be listening and understanding that I am seriously struggling here. The itching is stopping me from sleeping. I'm lucky if I get 3 hrs a night! And I have a lively toddler to deal with. In your opinion, what can I do??

I have my next MW at 31 weeks so will 1000000000000000000000% stress how much I am struggling but would just like some opinions.

I had bloods done last week for this and my levels came back at 8. My MW said this was not normal and i have to go in tomorrow for some fetal monitoring.

I have had itching pretty much all through my pregnancy but mainly in the first tri. My breasts have been particularly all the way through and very sensitive. My belly and arms itch esp at night, my belly has only just started recently.

I wouldnt say the itching was severe and havent had itching of the feet or hands.

Im 37+3...any advice please!!! x

I have OC, went for my bloods checked today and my bile acids are upto 36, 2 weeks ago they were only 14, so they have more than doubled in 2 weeks. I knew it had gotten worse as the itching is that bad i am only managing 1-2 hours a night

They think they may deliver before 37 weeks now as my other liver function tests are getting worse and bp is high.....

I had obstetric cholestasis and in the end it was completely uncontrolable, so I was admitted to hospital and they were going to induce me at 36weeks by LO decided she didn't want wait that long.

The fact you have got to 34 weeks is great, babies tend to do really well at that gestation. Chloe was in special care for a week. There were other babies in special care that were born at 33/34 weeks that did not even spend a week in there.

Hi Guys, i have been diagnosed with OC My level started at 19 which they said was slightly raised then went to 113 which they said was VERY high and it is now 23. Does any body know what the actual level should be??
