*Please Read* Obstetric Cholestasis

If you have itchiness without a rash it's called "obstetric cholestasis" here in oz, in other countries they call it " Intrahepatic cholestasis"
Did your doc tell you how high your levels are or make a plan to monitor you? My results came back NEGATIVE but I'm still itching😄, it's got worse and waiting for my OB to call me back,

I dont have a rash. She didn't tell me how high my levels were but she did schedule me an appointment for this Friday to monitor my baby. So then I probably do have intrahepatic Cholestisis right? Good luck I know how annoying the itchiness can be.

That's good, yea I had a CTG too and baby was fine.
I'm
Just worried because I've read if have this issue they induce at 37-38 weeks depending on how high your levels are. Mine are negative so will keep having blood tests as itchy, just worried for babies safety. Hopefully my OB will call Me back today and ill have bloods again this week if not Monday next week, baby will be scanned again on Tuesday. Goodluck to you too.

Ranjin they do prefer to induce you between 37 and 38 weeks but if your results have come back fine it can just be general pregnancy itching. Towards the end of my pregnancy I had quite a bit of itching and thought the OC was flaring up again but I was having weekly blood tests and they were fine my levels were still quite low (thanks to the medication) and I was told that it could be just general pregnancy itching.

Belan they will probably want to do ECG and bloods every week until they induce you now. You may also get a growth scan I had them every 2 week's from 28 weeks and little man was growing well. Good luck x

Thanks MissMummyMoo, my OB just rang me and said my Bile levels are normal, so I don't have OC however the itch is pregnancy related and he will have my bloods done again on Monday. Just to make sure as levels can rise.

Will go in for a CTG on Monday too just to make sure the baby is not distressed and if I am worried about baby over the weekend just to go into Hosp.

OB said he will keep a close eye on me so I feel better that I am being looked after and I can handle the itchiness - my main concern is I just want baby to be okay.

I just got my report in the post,
My salt bile acids are: 6.3
Alt: 26
AST: 20
ALP is slightly elevated likely to the pregnancy.

I have another blood test on Monday due to still bring itchy and will continue to have them weekly as well as a ctg.
just wanted to compare these levels with others

They're good results. At my worst my bile acids were 164 and ALT was 77. Normal range for bile acids is 15 and under. ALT is 30 and under x

Thanks missmummymoo
I'm trying to relax for now until I get my 2nd bloods on Tuesday. :)

My bile acids were over 160 at worst too in my first pregnancy when it should have been 14. The hospital said it was the highest they'd ever seen. I am pretty sure OC is coming back for the third time but am being closely monitored so they'll pick it up. Last time my levels rose bit by bit and then shot up at the end and I can see that happening this time too.

Will dr induce me if I have a mild case of obstetric Cholestisis?

I'm not sure belen as every consultant is different. Jchich did you have it with your first 2 pregnancies too? X

i had this with my first started itching at 36 1/2 weeks now pregnant with my second baby any idea of when other started itching with there second baby im 27 weeks today!

I had OC twice, the first time was so severe, my liver enzymes were in the 400's and my bile acids were in the 60's. I started symptoms around 30 weeks. Unfortunately my OB would not treat it or induce me because of the OC, but i ended up having my baby early at 35 weeks anyways, i think due to the stress.

This time i knew i had it from the first tri, my bile acids were borderline at first, around 17 in the second tri (normal is below 8 i have been told) and they have very slowly risen since. I have been on Urso 1000mg since about 24 weeks. I got to a high risk dr this time, and even though my OC is not bad at all, she is still going to induce me at 37 weeks due to risk. She said that anything above 40 she considers induction depending on gestational age.

Anyways, hope all you ladies with OC are surviving the itch, try not to worry too much!

Babyodream I've no idea as this was the first pregnancy I had it. Mine wasn't caused just by pregnancy mine was caused by some anti biotics I was on, I was a complete anomaly case  x

I'm being induced the 17th of this month depending on how soft my cervix is or the 24th due to Cholestisis. Do u any of you lady's have some tips on softening my cervix?

Last week my results were

Doc said I didn't have OC

I had more blood work done this monday, I had a slight itch last night on my feet so called for my results. Spoke to OB who said my levels have risen slightly and it looks like I have a "very mild case of Cholestisis" he didn't tell me what my levels where but said I shouldn't be worried and will do another blood test next Wednesday. If I feel any changes in babies movements I can call my hosp to have a ctg. I'm 37 + 1 today.

I started to worry so have asked for him to call me back so I can ask for my exact results and compare the numbers, also ask him about inducing etc. I do trust my OB he has years of experience, but I keep reading about how women with OC get induced at 36/37 weeks etc... If I have a very mild case of Cholestisis would that mean I can carry the baby s little longer? Unless my levels rise a great deal? Getting a bit panicky and 5 days to go till my next OB appointment. Anyone else had a very mild case?

*update*
So OB rang me back,
Results are now;
Alt: 42
A bile acid ; 9
So my alt and bile acid has gone up. My OB said this is really really mild and wouldn't even be OC really???
He knows I have gone in panic mode now, so I am to have bloods done again tomorrow and a ctg on Monday.
I'm 38 weeks next Wednesday so can then discuss further.

I must sound like a freak as he said he had ladies with levels in the 100+ but I can't stop worrying now, but at least he happy to monitor me as he knows the numbers can go up fast.

just thought i would vent, its 2 am here and i just woke up and have scratched my arms and legs to the point of bleeding while i was asleep. My itching took a drastic turn for the worse about out week ago, but because my liver enzymes were normal last week, my OB would not induce at 37 weeks, and will have me wait until 38, which is Monday. But, im seriously going crazy.

Trying to induce my own labor in the meantime, wish me luck!

Hello everyone. I am an OC sufferer and just posted here: https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/p...g-36-37-weeks-please-share-your-thoughts.html
Could anyone please share their thought?

Hey everyone,

I've developed really itchy palms, lower arms and thighs the last few days, there's no rash and most of the areas aren't in contact with clothes x
I'm seeing my GP tmw for something else pregnancy related so will mention it to him and see if he thinks I need bloods doing. Do you guys think this is the best approach? I'm just aware that bloods from the GP take an age normally....should I contact CMW or triage at the hospital? Xx thanks x
