I hope this is in the right place!!!

Basically id really like to join the police force after ive had bubs... ive looked on my local forces website but im so confused as to what i need to do to join??

I was wondering if anyone has joined recently, or are planning too, and how did you find out if they are recuiting?? ect ect. Also do you have to do a public services course at college to join? And do you need any specific grades?

Sorry! one more question... but will it look badly on me if i apply, that i havent worked in so long? what with me being pregnant? Will it count against me?

Thankyous :flower:

Sorry, I don't live in the UK, but work in law enforcement in Canada.

In general, top fitness and good common sense is what gets you in. That goes the same for the UK (my old Staff Sergeant was from the London Metro Police).

No, the baby won't count against you. In fact, women with children tended to be a great deal more mature than those without them, and maturity goes a long way in that.

Call you nearest police force and ask to speak to the officer in charge of recruiting. He/she will tell you everything you need to know. Don't be shy! Shyness is NOT a good trait in this! :) Good luck

To be honest the chances of you making it in to the police is slim. They dont like recruiting police at the moment and would rather recruit PCSO's. That said, if you have no objections to waiting a couple of years for the applications to run through, fitness tests and enrolment dates then you wont have a problem. Sorry to sound negative but my FIL is a top inspector in the met and has told us of the troubles getting in (DH wanted to apply) and my best friend has finally been told that she's got in after 5 years of waiting and she still doesnt start her training until September.

Hey hun, my other half is an officer so know all about the force, the entrance procedure etc so feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I know for sure that a few forces are heavily recruiting at the moment too, Surrey being one of them.

Personally, I would recomend you eat your own arm before joining but that is just my tainted, bitter opinion!!

Seriously though, feel free to drop me a note and we'll happily answer any questions (honestly, not biased either!)

Don't forget about all the great civilian positions as well. I recommend a mother takes one of those as opposed to being an actual officer. Lou, you are a single mom, aren't you? You have to keep in mind you would could be hours late each shift. A civilian position (ie. dispatcher, records keeper) will always be off on time. I'm a dispatcher myself (I chose to stay in this position rather than move on to be an officer because of time/baby), I would highly recommend it for any mom. The pay is very, very good. Actually, it's not much less than an officer at all. Let me know if you have any interest?

I've been working for the RCMP for almost 5 years now here in Canada

Unless you have a supportive FOB or family or firends who will look after the baby not just say they will then don't even think about it. You will hardly ever get away on time even if you shift does finish at a decent time. You will be made to do over time and no baby sitter isnt an excuse. Don't do it.
