I started taking 'Pregnacare Original' but then my Mum picked up for me the 'Pregnacare Plus'. It's basically the normal tablet from the Original, but there is also an Omega capsule to take, which has Omega 3 for babies brain, sight and nervous system.

The problem I'm having is that the Omega pill is so hard to take!! Every time I try to swallow it, it nearly makes me choke and scratches my throat. I've managed to take about a weeks worth so far, but it's becoming really difficult.

Basically, would it be a big deal if I didn't take the Omega? Does anyone take these or the 'Pregnacare Original' I'll force the pill down me if it is going to help my baby, I don't want to affect it's development or anything!! It's really worrying me.

My Dr said the DHA Omega3 stuff is not as important as the prenatal itself... so that I could chose to take it or not hope that helps

i take those! i swallow them easy though even without water. i think you must take them.

Due to having my bypass I have to take one pregnacare and both the pregnacare plus! Thats 3 HUGE tabs! I was looking at alternative meds as I think they are blummin expensive and Asda's own prgnancy tablets have pretty much the same vits and minerals in them as the pregnacare for a fraction of the cost.
Hope that helps x

Omega helps with brain development, so even if you can only stomach it for a few weeks I would try and do it at least for the first tri. If you really can't, talk to the midwife to see if you can get liquid versions.

i started off taking both tabs but the omega 3 made me even more sick so i stopped it and have taken just the pregnacare since its fine dont worry about it i only took pregnacare with my son and with my daughter just took folic acid

i take the asda ones, they stink and taste gross but they're just one tablet and they're much cheaper. i wouldnt think it'd make too much difference if you decided not to take them but may be a good idea to see if you can get an all in one for next time

Ooh I didnt know about this!! I take sanatogen ones, the pregnacare ones are massive and taste funny to me. I didnt know there was omega 3 ones though. Could I just take ANY omega 3 capsules?

the omega 3 tab always gets stuck in my throat... but I still take it *doh*

Sorry to butt in, but any additional vitamins you take for bubs are a bonus so dont worry if you dont want to take the Omega 3 one, just take the other.
Some people dont take any vitamins at all and have healthy babies.
And look at us lot, our mums didnt have all the worries of taking additional vitamins and we are ok!!
In respect of whether you can take the 'normal' omega 3 tablets, you should ask your Dr as some vitamins may be over the correct dosage for pregnancy xx

I wouldn't worry too much about not taking the omega 3 pill - it can't be any worse than what I did. My sister gave me some pregnacare plus that she had left over from when she had her 2nd.

Now I had been taking the pre-conception ones so when I saw 2 strips in the box I thought she had given me one of those and that the ones that looked like cod liver oil tablets where the plus ones.

It took me 2 weeks of just taking the omega 3 to realise that I was supposed to take one of each tablet!!! Doh!!:dohh:

I'm just hoping that not taking folic acid for 2wks hasn't done little haricot any harm

I take them too, my mum got me some when we started trying. I find them very hard to swallow too. I have to drink a full glass of water when taking them. I'm not sure if it matters hunny if you can't stomach the omega one as some women only take folic acid or just the original pregnacare which doesn't have the omega and they are fine so I wouldn't worry too much. x
I only took folic acid with my first and he is fine, lol x

I asked my DR what I should be taking and he very sternly said "you only need Folic acid that is it" everything else you should get from your diet. So as long as you eat healthily you should be absolutely fine xxx

I agree, the tablets are huge! And sometimes they would leave a strange after-taste of fish oil when I burped (lol tmi!) so I ended up buying the pregnacare original when my pregnacare plus ran out.

You don't HAVE to take them hun, they are good for you and bubs but they're not essential. As long as you have a well-balanced diet then you don't really need to worry about additional vitamins anyway xx
