Pregnant after only 6 months PP?

With my DD, only 6 months ago we had to have an EMCS because her head ended up getting stuck in the birth canal. We are extremely surprised to be expecting baby #2; we just found out today that I am pregnant again. I am really worried about getting pregnant so soon after the first CS. My experience during the operation was horrible, I ended up feeling a lot of pain. But recovery went very smooth.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten pregnant so soon after a CS? Were there any complications? Is there anything I should be worried about? My doctor didn't really tell me too much after DD was born because DH and I had no intentions of getting pregnant again for awhile. Is there any chance of a VBAC, or is that pretty much out the window?

:dohh:

They told me I could have vbac but they dont want me to get pregnant for at least a year to heal. Although they did say they quite often see women 9months later, so I guess it is possible that early.
I personally don't know anyone who that has happened to.

Congratulations Spacey :flower:

I'm not much help here but the day after my c/s I asked my dr if I could have a vbac for my next baby. He told me he wasn't sure but that I'd have to talk to a surgeon who wasn't as pro c/s as the one who did mine. There was no mention about time frame for vbac. Although I know in the US we tend to do more repeat c/s than vbac.

I've known a few people who have gotten pregnant soon after having a c/s and none of them had any complications :)

What has your dr said to you post birth? Did they mention anything to you about your uterus or birth canal? I had to have mine because my lo was breech but they checked and saw no reason that would have caused any issue.

Good luck :hugs:

Hi Hun,

I found out I was pregnant 9months pp after a horrific emcs that led to 6 weeks hospital recovery with ds, it totally had me scared barely anyone gave me info either... I was offered a vbac on the basis that I went into labor naturally if that didn't happen then I'd have an elective section, sadly labor didn't start on it's own and at 41 weeks I had a elective sect uve and as scared as I was about the pain last time (epidural failed) I had a very good spinal and everything went smoothly and so did healing. It was perfect.

With regards to baby no2 you might need to speak to a midwife/ doctor about your birth options as they might not want to let you vbac if your first baby got stuck.

Thank you.
My DD ended up being face up, and during the CS they realized that her head was also tilted to one side, which is what most likely caused her not to be able to move down. (Her "cone" was on the side of her head, lol!) I stopped progressing at 6cm. They never mentioned anything else about it, really. I don't think there was a reason on my part that caused her positioning like that. At least, not that they mentioned.

I do remember asking my OB at one of the PP visits if I would be able to have a VBAC, but all she responded with was "we'll just have to wait and see."

I called to schedule my first OB visit, and asked to have a nurse call me back. I spoke with her and she didn't seem too concerned about my being pregnant, only surprised that I'll be back so soon, haha! She did mention that I'll most likely have to have an elective cs this time.

I'm really sorry about your first experience. I know that's what's got me so worked up about possibly needing another. My experience was horrible as well, they just left me on the epidural after the failed attempt at inducing. But your story does give me a little more courage. I do remember the anesthesiologist saying that if I needed another they would do a spinal instead.

I plan on talking to my doctor when I go in for my visit next month.

First of all congratulations.

I think time frame makes little difference although I know some places would rather you wait a year before having a VBAC. Also there is no grantee no matter how long you waited you'd get your VBAC. DS was born by c-section almost 7 years ago, but ended up with another due to madams heart rate dropping to dangerous low levels. However, many other people have gone on and had VBAC with no issues.

Aw good luck at the dr! I'm curious what they will say! I am currently NTNP....we are waiting to properly ttc after DS is one year.

And just to let you know...I had a spinal and felt nothing. It was a wonderful experience :flower: so hopefully, if you have another c/s, it will be a much better experience for you.

i got pregnant with my 3rd 4 months after my 2nd baby
my pregnancy was fine
i had 2 previous c sections but the 3rd was defiantly smoother for me as i knew what happens etc:thumbup:

My sil has 13 months between her two girls, she had csection with her first and went on to have a natural delivery with her second baby with no complications x

Im really uplifted by everyones stories on here about having vbac. Ideally id wanted natural birth and then ttc within 6 months but i think to be safer scar wise i might make it more like a year. Or I might leave it to chance!

I had my DD#2 13 months after DD#1 and was fully supported to have a VBAC. Had to be induced at 41+6 by breaking my waters but did end up with EMCS unfortunately not due to having previous section though.

Hi there, my story is fairly similar OP. I had my dd a year ago and I'm now 6 months pregnant with my little boy. I had EMCS also because my dd was stuck, she was facing upwards but tilted to the side so they couldn't even get forceps on her (I was fully dilated and had been pushing for 45 mins but it was distressing her because she was stuck!). My consultant is more than happy for me to try VBAC under the conditions that I'm not medically induced (no drip or pessary) and that it pretty much happens naturally. I will have to have a ELCS at almost 42 weeks if it hasn't happened and if there's any medical reason he has to come earlier it will most likely be a c section. So I'll be trying everything I can to go into labour naturally!! So far my pregnancy has been completely fine, no complications. My placenta is posterior so it's nowhere near my scar and my scar feels fine so far. Will have to let you know how the rest of my pregnancy and the birth goes lol!

I've had four caesareans in four years- one in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014. I lost my first born when he was 2 days old. I fell pregnant 3 months later with my eldest daughter. She was born 3 days before he would have been 1. I am physically doing really well 7 weeks after having my youngest daughter x
