Hello im ttc and my dr. gave me prenatal vitamins but every kind so far has given me severe bloating and constipation so each time she would switch me to a new one. The first kind i was on was one a day (over the counter), then i was put on perscription prefera one, then vitafol one, and now PNV-DHA.. I just dont know what to do cause i know its important to be on a prenatal but i cant stand this feeling.. I already have IBS to start out with, with constipation issues so these vitamins are making it worse.. I was wondering if anyone else had any similiar issues and what did you do? what brands of vitamins are you on? Thanks for any help.

I've only recently started taking prenatals (previously I was taking fertilaid which has everything you.need in it) and I have been so bloated and constipated. It feels horrible! I only recently thought that maybe it was related to the prenatals. I'm taking rite aid brand. Kinda thinking about just a multi.vitamin plus folic acid if it gets any worse. What part of nj are you in?

Maybe take it before u go to bed, so you won't feel the side effect?

I have been taking the one above. It's great, 100% natural and vegan.
No synthetics like the over-the-counter ones.

Try taking one with less or no iron if you can, and then get the extra iron from green veggies or red meat. When iron is not properly chelated it causes horrible constipation. Good luck!

I heard it was the iron in the prenatal that makes us constipated but i was thinking there has to be one out there that doest do that. I am in Northern NJ (morris county). What part are you from?

Do you know of any without iron? I just hate this feeling.. and i eat a lot of veggies all the time i love them so that shouldnt be a problem :)

Maybe go to a vitamin shop and ask if they have an iron free women's multivitamin available. They should stock something, although it might not specifically say prenatal. Anything for women should already be low in synthetic vitamin A and contain folic acid. The 'prenatal' label is just marketing.

I'm from Bergen County but I'm Essex County now. My sister used to live in Morris County

we are close then!! i have a lot of family in essex! Im from east hanover, but when i got married i moved to hackettstown :)

It is indeed the iron. I have digestive issues as well(not IBS just a silly body), and had to stop taking them because of that. I've read that taking two flintstones vitamins will be just as good. Or you could just take a folic acid vitamin. Or you could mix and match various supplements to be sure you get everything you need like Elena from The Art of Making a Baby. Forewarning, if you start flicking through her site she is pregnant.

I ordered the rainbow lights! Really hope they help

i just looked up the rainbow light prenatals and all of them have 30mg of iron in them and my prenatal right now has 27mg of iron. But the rainbow light organic one has 18mg so im thinking that one i should order. Which one did you order?

hi i dont take the prenatals i found them to big so i just take one folic acid and one vitalin d a day now, no side effects, easy to swallow and both r the main ones you , just ont take vitamin a as its not recommended

Im thinking of just doing this.. how much folic acid and how much vit D are you taking?

I use raw prenatal by garden of life. And it doesn't make me constipated.

I ordered the ones that was linked on here. The thing about synthetic vitamins is that your body doesn't absorb them as well so the organic and natural ones should go down better :)

Also it was the same price as my current prenatal (actually cheaper since it comes with more) so I don't have much to lose

hi im takin 400 g folic acid and 12.5 of vitamin d so one tablet, i got them from boots in a small bottle withred stickers and folic from sainsburys , i get on really well with both, most of my friends have children and most have not got on with prenatals , they bloat, constipate, makeyou sick and the tablets look like breezeblocks! no chewy ones r in theuk, only america , goodluck! :)

The vitamins I took at first made me really sick, but more like nauseous and threw up even. So I started taking gummy flintsone vitamins. I have to take two in order to get the right amount but they're working pretty good for me so far. And it's kind of like an after-dinner treat! lol

A few people do this.. which gummy flintstone do you get? what does it say on the bottel? I looked and there were a few different gummys. Prenatals really suck with the bloating and constipation. I might try the organic ones or the flintstone. :)

My OBGYN told me not to take prenatals until I actually found out I was pregnant b/c of the extra iron and the constipation. He told me if I took folic acid and fish oil, I should be good. And then start taking the prenatals as soon as you actually get back a positive.
