Ok I started working for a temp agency in May (part time), and was on medication as I suffer from severe anxiety. Have stopped taking pills since I got my :bfp: in June, and have taken a few sick days- I'm getting panic attacks, vomiting from stress etc. The doctor has pulled me out of work for 2 weeks to see if it gets any better. Here's the thing- if anything, it's getting worse and I know there's no way I'll be able to go back to work until I can take my meds again. I'm 10+3. I can't get statutory sick pay as it's technically a temporary job. If I leave, I don't think I will get jobseekers as 1. I'm not seeking a job and 2. if you leave employment of your own accord you don't get it. I don't know what to do!! Help anyone???

Sorry hun im not to sure where you would stand in that situation.

Hopefully one of the other girls will know :)

thanks polo!! hopefully someone will be able to help me!

aww hope you and your mini mosher get a good solution! i also dont have any advice babe x

The only thing i can think to suggest is telling the jobcentre about your situation and ask if there is any other benefit you can recieve, As far as i know you sould be entitled to income support not 100% sure about this though. They have to be able to do something for you though because noone can be expected to live off nothing.

Firstly, sorry to hear about your illness...I know it's not the same but I suffered from a severe bowel disorder and was on medication of which I had to stop when I got preggers. It's safe to say that I had a lot of time off sick too, and the panic about what your work will think can only make it worse.

When you say that its 'technically' a temp job, what do you mean? Whether you are temporary, contract or permanent, I am sure you are still entitled to SSP as long as you provide your current employer with a valid sickness note from your doctor. If it is a temporary job and you are signed off for a certain amount of time, they can reserve the right to end your employment without notice which shall help with benefit (this is no way the same as being fired just to clarify!).

You are able to claim for jobseekers allowance which is what you will be placed on should your employment end. In the eyes of the UK law, you are classed as able to work right up until you are 29 weeks pregnant, whereby you will either flip to Maternity Allowance if you have paid enough National Insurance, or to income support.

Although, being as you are signed off sick, and it looks like for the health of you and your baby it would be wise to be on long term sickness, then you would probably end up claiming incapacity/sickness benefit which is the same amount as Jobseekers Allowance anyway.

Hope this helps a little bit.

You need to speak to your doctor about this hun, If the doctor deems you unfit to work then you would get a letter from him to give to job centre to say you are unfit to work for xyz reasons, you would then be put on sickness benefit until you are either fit to return to work or until you are 29wks pregnant when you will then be switched to income support.

HTH xx

thankyou so much ladies!! I shall be trying all of these avenues! you have made me feel so much better!

:( I'm sorry you're having to deal with this.

I don't really know what the answers are for you, but the job centre or benefits agency should be able to tell you. (If you get a jerk on the phone, just call them back later, until you get someone understanding ;) )

I would have thought that if the doc signs you off work for a looong period of time, you should get some sort of incapacity benefit?? But I could be wrong.

You should be able to google for all the numbers.

Good luck, and remember, bubs is worth it :)

you are totally right seraphim, the only issue is im not entitled to statutory sick pay and its putting a lot of pressure on OH, being the sole earner in the household. on a plus side, I get a 500 pounds grand when the baby is born.
