Reflux Help & Support Thread

help please girls.....

emily has reflux and was given Gaviscon yesterday but shes just had two dirty nappies in an hour and the poo was both solid! should i give her cool boiled water to sooth her tummy and has this happened with anyone else and what did you do? xxxx

Another BAD day on the sick front and it is only 3pm nearly :haha: His sick has never been this bad. He is just going along his normal business and keeps happily chucking up thick sick. It isn't even the cottage cheesy sick. I think it is the thickened gaviscon, I have no idea, but it is all the time. He has been up right all afternoon either on me, in his swing or his nap was propped up on the sofa next to me.

I am getting right pissed off

Haven't read back on your other posts on here, but could you go back to docs and ask for domperidone? That empties the stomach quicker so could mean that at least if he's sick it'll be a lot less than at the mo?

Gaviscon is brilliant at causing constipation! Try offering her an oz of water, and hopefully you will get a nice poo tomorrow x

I wanted something other than gaviscon cos it cause him terrible constipation. Doctor doubled the bloody gaviscon dose :growlmad: So after no poo for 3 days he is on lactulose which caused the biggest poo explosion yesterday!! He hasn't been since. So I might go back Monday and see what they say :)

Your twins were born day after my son

her crying is breaking my heart she just seems to be in loads of pain and i feel so helpless

We've had quite a lot of tears today, not looking forward to the 11pm feed - really hope she settles tonight, was up with her till 3am this morning and then her brother woke up for his feed at 5am....so tired!

We are going through another pukey phase again! i really thought things were improving :( however no screaming with his evening bottle which was a relief! x

We are having a growth spurt :headspin: so it's eat, eat, eat ....... Ohh and puke puke puke  but the Losec's made her a happy chucker 80% of the time, so while I dispare at the 8 outfit changes a day and my huge washing pile at least there is less screaming. She's very unsettled in her sleep tho, napping for 30 mins and not dropping into real deep sleep.

Going to try a freshest tonight and see how that goes, I'm quite nervous about the lack of burping/uprightness, but we'll have a go!

Fairie evan is like that, finds it hard to really sleep long. Except at night between now and about 4-5am.

Bad night fir us. Very unsettled, cried pretty much non stop since 8.39-9pm til midnight. Refused his usual bottle, would only take boob. Couldn't keep much down including the bloody gavisvon.

Think I need to get something else. Gavisvon and on demand bf is total pain as they are not due at the same time :(

we had a nightmare weekend!
After the h.v trying to pressure me into making LO have formula or rice and saying i cabt produce enough milk for thetwo of then and THEN saying hers not crying cos of reflux, but because he is hungry i felt like shite!

then on friday night he completely refused the breast and i frantically expressed what i could (not enough though :( ) to feed him,i managed to source some BM from a lovely lady on here on sat which is enabling me to catch up with expressing!

He's still very fussy with feeds, but is thankfully taking at least SOME from the breast.i should be getting a call tomorrow to give an appp with the consultant pead, sxo fingers crossed he can help us!

hes still crying a lot, very little sleep here!

Demand Ranitadene hon, it won't stop the chucking but it will help his pain. If it doesn't work within a week or so go back and demand Losec

That way you can dramatically lower the gaviscon dose :flower:

Lucas had a bad day yesterday, sick every feed, if not straight away then a couple of hours after. He suffered hugely with his wind too, was burping him throughout the day. This 'Losec' what is it? what does it do? Like Ranitidine?

Oh my god I'm so glad I have found this thread.

I think my LO may have reflux :dohh:

He is a bit snuffly (but not all day), makes that awful noise when breathing in (but again not all the time) and he is fine during the day but at his last bottle of a night he cries, screams and draws his legs up AND sometimes (not always) he can throw up about half oz of his bottle and it's phlegmy :nope:

He's pretty happy during the day and sleeps ok during the night but we've also been having a few winding issues  we wind him after each oz and we think we have it all but an hour or so later we can pick him up for a cuddle and he will burp about 3 times.

I've never had this problem with my other children so it's frustrating to experience it now.

Welcome to the Thread, you are in the same boat as me. Lucas is screaming now!!!! Ahhhh:cry:

I'm giving Kellan gripe water with his feed atm will that help or make things worse???

Just rang the Drs for the results of Katie's lactose intolerance test & the receptionist said they are back but waiting for the Dr to review. So I thought this must mean the test isn't just negative or she'd just say, but she said that's not always the case, so god knows. Need to ring after 2pm.

Personally I think she has silent reflux as some bottles she is ok after, but the majority she isn't. She screams blue murder & looks in sheer agony. Yet....she sleeps through....9pm - 6:45am last night.....it makes no sense. I swear to god when she's screaming, she looks like she's in the worst pain ever. I really feel I can't take it sometimes!

So for silent reflux...what do I do? Tell the Dr I think it's that? What would he do?

Thanks

Losec is a really strong drug, so it's always meant to be the last step, especially if your baby is really young because you won't have much else to try if the effects wear off. It's a tablet (generally, although chemists can make it into a liquid solution but it doesn't keep for long)

We didn't get it until Alex was about 8 months. We tried everything before it, and had to proove domperidone was MAKING her sick :dohh: she is on the same dose as my adult friend :/ but I won't deny it's been magic. We've been weaning her off it and so far so good ;)

Hey Hun
Alex had the exact same prob, in the end we always had to have a bottle of lactolase in the house, she got 2.5mls a day (we just split the dose through the day) and that helped lots. You don't need a prescription, it's safe, you can ask for the solution in boots x
