Hi ladies I've been diagnosed with sciatica and the pain is so intense and agonising in my lower back / bum and legs . It is so painful I can't tell you! My work is really busy and we are understaffed a lot, so I'm struggling on trying to run round like a headless chicken! I told my work I want to go on maternity leave in September but my boss wasn't happy about it but I spoke to another woman who's high up and she said she understands and will talk to my boss (who's a man!) I feel so guilty going on mat leave earlier than I wanted I'm not due to dec (beginning) i just feel like a failure! I always have been the kind of girl to work work work! So it just feels like failing. Anyone else had to do this too or had similar?

With my first pregnancy with my ds I had to go on maternity leave early because I was having early contractions and he was trying to come to early. In which they put me on bedrest. I was about 28-30 weeks. Its not ure fault, these are things that come with pregnancy so dont feel bad. Your boss is being a jerk and not so understanding unfortunately. At the end of the day you have to do what's best if nething. Good luck hun.

I feel your pain! No siatica here but I am working (see post "working through pregnancy is horrible") I'm sorry about your idiot boss. I'm sure my principal would be fine if I had to go on leave early I just can't afford it! I only get about 20 paid days and wanna save them for time with baby.

I'm pregnant with my first and I also have sciatica. I have to be on my feet and ho, go, go for work so I started mat leave very early. I'm due September 19th but last day of work was June 6th. Dont feel guilty
..this is a time where we have to come first for the sake of our lo.

good luck mama :)

Thanks ladies! I liked your post working when pregnant is horrible! Lol I felt like saying amen! Thanks to u all for making me feel better ! I just assumed I get abit fatter and work right to the end but life doesn't always go how u plan I guess! My boss said to me today I can go on leave in September so that is really kind of him , he's a lovely guy really, I think he just didn't understand how I was feeling! Until another lady pointed it out! I'm not feeling like such a failure anymore , well Ido abit but now I know others have been off early too I feel better! Can't wait to go on leave now and go swimming and try and make the pain ease up! Hope u all feel better soon and appreciate ur comments. Xx

Hopefully your sciatica behaves like mine did. At about 18 weeks, it started up and that's when my OB diagnosed it. By 23-24 weeks, I ended up in the ER because it was so bad I couldn't move without extreme nerve grinding pain. They treated it with a pregnancy-safe muscle relaxant and acetaminophen and sent me home. After a few days of almost complete bed rest, it really did start to improve. The weirdest thing is, by 25 weeks, it was completely gone, and it still has yet to return at 37 weeks! Apparently, that can happen, and I'll be hoping it does for you. It really is a miserable thing. Good luck with work and have a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy!
