I've been working self employed trying to set my business up since I left my job at the end of last year. At the moment I am very lucky and LO is looked after by my mum, but due to my SIL returning to work soon I will need to put LO into some childcare.

I'll need help from Childcare Tax Credits as we just can't afford childcare but as my business is in that 'new' stage I'm working a lot of hours on creating samples and pushing myself.

Currently my mum has LO 3 days a week and I'll probably be dropping this down to 1 day and doing 2 days childcare. I reckon I currently work about 16-20 hours a week (which should mean I qualify) but how on earth do I prove this? My income is tiny at the mo!

Do they just take my word for it?

Apparently there is a box marked 'no income from self employment' which you can tick. You will also have o do a tax retun each year which I am guessing will have to match up with what you tell them.
