Should we bring back the death penalty?

I totally disagree with the last few posts............ and everyone has the right to their opinion and thats fine, but i dont agree every 'victim' feels the need for revenge, or feels the need to write on social networks about how they would torture another person and not all 'victims' would agree with the death penalty..........and even if they did imo doesnt make it right.
if someone kicks my daughter i dont teach her to kick them back..... small in comparison to what we are discussing i know but i start as i mean to go on.... so she grows up learning to channel different emotions in a positive way that will benefit her a great deal more (i believe) then it would kicking back ......the world today will not get any nicer to live in if we use an eye for eye mentality .... ....... i dont belive in the death penalty and thats JMO.

and i'll quote the great martin L king again:

Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

You would be very surprised.....

You know I've been a 'victim' to a fair few things in my time and I've never felt a desire for revenge. Not everyone thinks like that. Many 'victims' are quite happy with justice.

I don't judge victims for feelings such a way, but I still don't think that the justice system should be based on the raw emotions of the victim. And meli1981 it is obviously NOT that simple, otherwise it would be legal everywhere.

Don't make out that the people venting their anger and horror over something like they are low life scums like the murderers...that is such a low dig at someone. Its common and normal for innocent, normal, nonviolent victims (and victims extend to anyone who is affected by a crime, whether they knew that person or not) to feel such horror and hatred to say things they would never normally say...I have heard it on BnB myself! Victims are victims...and those feelings are part of being a victim and shame on anyone to judge that.

No one said that people venting their anger or horror are low life scum, but what is pretty shocking is reading people who are horrified at the murder of some one, *graphically* describe what they would like to do with the said murderer. There is a difference between saying 'I hope they lock him away and throw away the key', and what has become a social norm on some social media and that is 'he is disgusting, if I get my hands on him I would want to torture him by doing x, y, and z and then a, b and c'. To think that, to write it, well isnt good, acceptable nor healthy.

As for revenge, I have been victim to various things and no revenge doesnt enter my head. Even if it did my emotions shouldnt control what happens to someone.

Personally I feel death to some criminals would be the "easy" way out.... I'd rather them actually have life behind bars so everyday they can sit and think about what they have done over and over again till the end of their days.

If the justice system now days was tougher on criminals instead of their victims then I don't think their would be a need for the death penalty. LIFE should mean LIFE!

To many innocent people have been killed using the death penalty, I just don't know if I could see the person carrying out being any worse than the perpetrator they are sentencing to death iykwim

for me murder is wrong, so I could never be in favour of the death penalty, nobody should be allowed to say who lives or not, reducing yourself to the level of the criminal makes you no better.

I find people really disturbing, whenever a terrible crime/murder is committed you'll get stream and streams of people writing down really vivid forms of punishment and cruelty they would inflict on the perpetrator, and we wonder how people are capable of doing them when so many are capable of not only thinking them but taking joy in sharing their grotesque ideas with others.

really? this is ridculous! so just because the victims or people that are sickened by these murderers actions, are in favor of the death penalty, WE are the "grotesque" ones? what happenned to the murderer in all this? all of a sudden we are worse then them? look, its plain and simple, a person who murders another person with premeditation, deserves to die!

ridiculous? why? because you don't agree with it? I can't imagine anything worse then a victim's family picking out punishments, luckily the legal system agrees! clearly we're never going to agree on this but just because you think criminals deserve to die it doesn't mean others do.

An eye for an eye is why blood feuds still exist across the world, death is not the only consequence of murder.

to ME its that simple, obviously others disagree!

i just dont want to be called sick, because i believe in the death penalty, why do people always feel the need to get personal?

Some people don't know how to express opinions without making it out that you are making a personal attack :hugs: meli.

To kill a killer suggests that there are certain situations in which killing is acceptable. So how do we decide which are acceptable?

If a man (A) killed another man (B) in cold blood, and in response the wife of man B killed man A, would that be acceptable?
If the wife of man A then killed the wife of man B for killing her husband, would that be acceptable?
And so on and so forth.... every crime has a victim, should every victim be able to seek revenge?
Where would the chain end? Where do we draw the line?

How can we claim a moral high ground while committing the same act? At which point does it become hypocrisy?

I understand that if someone committed a terrible crime against your loved one you could become consumed by hate. Believe me, I have been there and I have had those feelings. But is the law there to act on those? What does capital punishment teach us? It is revenge because the only person that 'benefits' is the victim (I use the term very loosely) as if they sought revenge, there really is no better form. It does not benefit society, which is the concern of the law.

I have never read anyone do that before, but, if someone does write that, then, yes, they are breaking the law. But saying 'I wish they were dead' doesn't mean they really mean it. I have seen on BnB before...when sickos kill children, ect...people writing such stuff...normal, nice people. I even said it...string em up by their balls an let them rot. Do I really mean that. No, of course not, I do think that some people in this thread who are aganst the death penalty, are making shallow digs at people, instead of just stating their opinion. Just goes to show, we can all be nasty, can't we?

No, of course you are not. Its a difference of opinion. I am on the fence with capital punishment...perhaps saved for the really bad rapists/serial murderers, but in NO WAY does that change me from beng someone who cares about others, which I know I do. Let them judge away...I am sure they have ALL the answers!

I don't see anyone making shallow digs? I assume you mean me? don't you hate it when people beat around the bush! if you have a problem with how members post report to admin.

I don't understand where the shallow digs are either and it didn't seem to be getting personal at all, I think most posters where speaking generally rather than directing at any particular poster

Sorry, I won't beat around the bush...yes, I mean you. I will tag the post then.

For those who are saying there was no 'digs at people' this is what we are referring too...Vanilla's post, which Meli felt offended by...as I am sure it was written with that intention.
