Should we bring back the death penalty?

i didnt like the "reducing yourself to the level of the criminal, makes you no better" comment! gee thanks!

for me murder is wrong, so I could never be in favour of the death penalty, nobody should be allowed to say who lives or not, reducing yourself to the level of the criminal makes you no better.

I find people really disturbing, whenever a terrible crime/murder is committed you'll get stream and streams of people writing down really vivid forms of punishment and cruelty they would inflict on the perpetrator, and we wonder how people are capable of doing them when so many are capable of not only thinking them but taking joy in sharing their grotesque ideas with others.

really? this is ridculous! so just because the victims or people that are sickened by these murderers actions, are in favor of the death penalty, WE are the "grotesque" ones? what happenned to the murderer in all this? all of a sudden we are worse then them? look, its plain and simple, a person who murders another person with premeditation, deserves to die!

For those who are saying there was no 'digs at people' this is what we are referring too...Vanilla's post, which Meli felt offended by...as I am sure it was written with that intention.

That is taking those five words greatly out of context. She finds people who write 'really vivid forms of punishment and cruelty they would inflict on the perpetrator' disgusting, so the things I mentioned that are regularly seen on facebook, twitter and the like. NOT people who believe in capital punishment, so unless any of you are the people who write I want to torture such and such by doing x, y and z to them. Then she didnt mean you (again it is different to writing lock them up and throw away the key or even hang them by the balls, because you are arent sitting there and thinking of awful ways to hurt a person and then writing it on a social media site, iykwim?).

I do believe in the death penalty, and I also believe in killing someone who attempts to enter my home uninvited, or attempts to harm my friends/family. Quite simply, I do not see the point of allowing someone to live in prison for 60 years (or more!) because the death penalty is "cruel". I guess I'm selfish, I'd rather see my tax dollars go to helping victims recover, feed the homeless, build better schools, etc. than go to feed and care for someone who is on death row.

Just incase anyone is wondering I didnt edit any posts :haha: It must of been done whilst I was writing. Sorry about that.

I really don't think vaniillla's comment was aimed at anyone in this thread as I highly doubt any of you are one of those disturbing people. I think we're all pretty decent people here, even if we don't agree on the issue.

you know on this forum we are blessed with a report button, I suggest you a) use it or b) Keep out of debating as clearly you don't like others disagreeing you, how sad to pick out those posts! I'm not going to even bother trying to explain myself, my posts were not aimed at anyone and as such anyone that takes it personally needs to asks themselves not me why. Oh the irony of making digs! "as I am sure it was written with that intention." says who? you? and you are who exactly? How weird that you know someone you've never spoken to so well! I'm really touched, but I suggest you touch the report button and keep your complaints for the admin team.

I agree with natsku... some posts are read wrong ot taken a way not intended and in some cases (not on this thread) i have come across people who pick at posts just to argue........but in this debate section i think we are able to debate without that worry and without personally attacking someone and making it all so public, which why i spend so much time in this section,.......... even though we do not agree with each other and have different opinions that is what the debate section is all about, so we can try and understand why each other feel that way, make each other think and maybe even get people to change their opinion, its not a i'm right, your wrong, your this, your that section.
I really do not think any harm was intended at all.

But it costs more to give someone to the death penalty than to keep them in prison for life without parole (In California the sytem costs $137 million per year, it would cost $11.5 million without the death penalty.) If the death penalty was abolished then more funding would be available for those things.

I think there is a difference in protecting yourself and your family if someone was attacking you (survival instinct would take over) to death row.

Would the people who agree with the death penalty actually adminstrate the lethal injection to the prisoner themselves?
and then what would that make you? in your eyes?

i really am just curious and trying to understand your way of thinking.

i couldnt do it, i wouldnt do it, no matter what the prisoner had done, if i administrated the lethal injection to a prisoner, i wouldnt be able to live with myself, in my eyes i would then be a killer, no better than the prisoner............it being legal makes no difference in my eyes.

This is just like a gun debate. :nope: No one is going to agree or change their minds because someone disagrees with their beliefs or opinions.

And, yes, Smelly, if someone killed or harmed my child or my family, you bet your ass I'd hit the switch to administer that injection.

I'm not meaning it in the sense if it was personal i.e if they had killed or harmed your child/family.

i am talking about this as a subject as a whole.....in general would you admistrate the lethal injection to a someone who hasnt attacked you in anyway personally but is on death row for a crime?

BUT if you would hit the switch if someone killed a member of your family - where would you draw the line ..........what if it was a fight gone wrong? or someone was driving irresponsibly and killed a member or your family? does it matter how or why and if that person was sorry or remorseful or wouldnt ever make the stupid mistake again..............or is it literally and eye for an eye regardless???

There are people that do it. They aren't directly injecting the person. It's all done by machine.

I know but could you personally do that? could you switch that machine on that ends someones life?

Prison wardens do it. Call me harsh, but it's just pushing a button.

I certainly couldn't. I couldn't end the life of someone unless I was in the situation that by ending their life I saved another. And even then I would most likely feel terrible for the rest of my life.

thats not the point i am trying to make though.......

i know the everyday average person doesnt push that button........ i know prison wardens do it....

i am asking if you could personally do it?

Prison wardens do it. Call me harsh, but it's just pushing a button.

So where does the responsibility lie? That kind of dissociation is the problem.

It lies with the court that convicted the criminal. The legal system is responsible.

The court sentenced a prisoner to death. The court is not capable of killing a man. The warden kills the man to uphold the law which states killing is unlawful. It is hypocritical.

No one is going to agree on this, like I said before. It's a form of punishment. Sure, I'd do it. Why the hell not?
