Should we bring back the death penalty?

i did edit my post and added this:

i have to say why is it .......that its okay for people to say 'what if your child/family member was killed' without anyone getting up in arms......but when i turned that round to 'what if your child/family was the killer' ........it caused an uproar??? ................ i dont understand.......

i actually dont understand ............do you still not see my point??.... and no one is making digs or forcing anyone to agree with them at all.......... i didnt say 'you have issues' in that teenage sense at all...............this is absolutely pointless.

thanks for calling me naive and simplistic:) we live in a small town, not much crime, my husband and i dont do drugs, drink (besides the occational beer) or even smoke, we are a middle class household with everything my kids could possibly want or need, and we plan on staying married long term. as far as environmental circumstances go, i think we will all be ok! so now maybe you can see why my point of view is so "simplistic":)

There are a million and one possibilities. What about James Holmes who killed all of those innocent people the cinema? His parents gave him a similar upbringing.

The fact is we, as parents, can only do so much. Children are not children forever, who knows where life can take them.

I'm not saying you are naive, I am saying it is a naive view. And it certainly is simplistic to think that all serious criminals have the same underlying reasons for it.

None of this is any different from what I said.

There may sometimes be shared characteristics, but there is no uniform serial killer.

Yes, there usually is. I am afraid you are wrong. They are psychopaths....signs from very young usually. Killing and hurting animals, socially isolated, usually abused.

I think you just need to move on from the request to view your child as a psychpathic murderer...its not going to happen.

Early Signs Of Serial Killers

Extreme anti social behavior is one possible indication that an individual may have a problem, but it is by no means definitive. The type of person who is most likely to develop into a serial killer is one who suffers from psychopathy, which involves a large tendency towards antisocial behavior. It's important to remember that some children develop socially at a slower level than others, so this is just a small sign to watch out for. A child who changes from being very sociable to preferring isolation should warrant even more attention.

Young people who develop a serious tendency towards voyeurism may be displaying an early indication of psychopathic tendencies. Serial killers often seek to have complete control over another human being, and watching them in private settings without their knowledge allows some people to feel a sense of dominance. This is a trait many serial killers share from an early age.

One of the most common warning signs that potential serial killers display is a love of setting fires. While it may be common for young people to enjoy the site of a fire, a psychopath's interest borders on that of being a potential arsonist. They will set anything they can on fire just to destroy it.

The most noticeable early indicator to watch out for is when young people take pleasure in harming animals. They may provoke, torture or even kill cats, dogs and other pets. Even after seeing the results of their actions, the person will show no form of regret or morose. Serial killers generally seek control over the life of another, and at a younger age a small animal is the only type of creature they will be able to fully dominate. Any adolescent who displays this activity is an extreme risk of developing into an adult that could willingly hurt and kill human beings.

With all due respect, you're the one that keeps going on about it.

And we obviously agree - there usually is. Usually. But not always. So clearly there is more to it than that.

okay ........but those on the otherside of this topic .....will except others request to imagine our children being killed by a pyscopatic murderers without feeling the need to call them sick and disgusting

It's probably best if we just don't respond to each other anymore as I'm tiring of repeating my points because you refuse to consider them. I have already stated my view on this (which does not dispute it), so if you're at all interested please re-read my past posts, if not, please stop responding to me without acknowledging the point of my post.

This is a great debate and I'd hate for it to end because of this repetitive tit for tat.

What is more to it? There really isnt more to the fact that they are psychopaths. There really isnt. Thats pretty much all of it actually. How they can become psychopaths is different, I am sure. For ex, in Canada, Paul Benardo lived in a home with a dad that had a young women there for his pleasure, as well as his wife...and he started raping women when he was very young...and loved the dominance. His dads clear psychopathic behaviour was taken a couple steps further with his son. He also watched and folowed young women starting very young.

Serial murderers are not made from normal childhoods in most cases...in fact, I cant think of one case where a serial murderer had a normal loving upbringing and no early signs, that I have studied. In fact, many petty crminals have som issues...mental health and addictions are the biggest. And the biggest reason for addictions, is mental health.

If you dont want to post anymore, just dont... We dont need to hear a story about it.

Thanks for the tip, in any future instances where I feel someone is deliberately trying to antagonise, or failing miserably to grasp the point of an opposing side of a debate, I won't bother politely explaining why I feel it's best not to respond to one another.

You are obviously incapable of debating without being offensive and taking things personally and I find it boring.

And they all lived happily after, the end (everyone loves a story ;)).

But it's not just about serial murderers/psychopaths etc.(infact...i'm pretty sure if they are then they could be classed as mentally impaired or whatever..depending obviously, and therefore exempt from capital punishment anyway?). Some people just go down the wrong path...they may end up on drugs, in a gang, homeless...anything. Not all of the people sentenced are serial killers or psychopaths, some end up killing during a burglary or while under the influence.

Your child could end up suffering from any kind of mental condition that could lead to them doing something out of character...psychosis, depression..anything. People from 'normal' backgrounds can be socio/psychopaths too...it doesn't always matter what you do.

Completely agree with all of this and it is exactly what I meant. There is no uniform serious criminal.

So does the whole nature v nurture not exist? We are either good or bad, law-abiding or law breaking, dependent on our parents and our parents alone? Life is just not that black and white.

We must all know siblings who have been brought up in the same way and yet have chosen, or been led to, different paths. I can name countless people like that. A friend of mine was a straight A student, went to Uni, got a very good job and lives a comfortable, crime free lifestyle. Her brother was a straight A-student but through circumstances outside of his parents control, he became a heroin addict. He stole, he lied. Two people, same upbringing, different outcome. It happens, and to think it doesn't, whether you are talking about jobs, drugs or murder, is blinkered.

That is what I said too...the reasons why people get there are different but mental illness is usually the culprit. however, in serial murderers, specifically, there is usually early signs. But, I, specifically am focusing on serial murderers, because they are usually the ones society would more readily accept capital punishment. I personally am happy with them staying in jail as I believe that God will judge and His punishment is best. However, I can certainly see the 'other side' that is for CP, at least in those cases, espesially since rehabilitation in those individuals is unsuccesful. I do agree though, well, it is of my opinion, that psychopaths are nurture and not just nature. They are made, not born that way, and how they get to that, varies.

Now petty crime, even man slaughter etc...I would NEVER consider CP...which is why I have never touched those. But, for the record, I am against CP, as I am a Catholic.

i agree cp should only used in the most severe cases

This is really rude. There was no need for that response, Emma was just explaining herself notvtelling a story.
