Should we bring back the death penalty?

they are doing society a favor. they are protecting the rest of us, i look at it as self defence in a sense. and im not looking to start a religious debate, like i said im not relgious or are a part if any religion. its just what I believe

I dont think prisoners live their lives happily in Jail they become institutionalized and cope, i dont think they have happy lives at all.

are you speaking from experience? have you ever been to prison? if you havent how can you say that?

smelly07; have you been to prison? can you say that you were living a happy life there? if you havent how can you say that prisoners live happy lives?[/QUOTE]

Meli i never said you did say it.........if you read back over the posts again you will see you repsonded to my post and then i turned the question back round on you.

Also i dont belive they will get punished in the Afterlife at all, what i believe is part of the reason why i think about this the way i do but i wont go in to that right now LOL.

well, and im entitled to what i believe, and i believe in an afterlife! i believe they wont truely get punished until they answer to God. (im not a religious person persay, but i do belueve in God).

when did i say you were not entitled to believe in what you believe???
i was stating what i believe just like tasha also did! stop making everyone so personal...because its not.

well, i couldsay stop trying to start an argument. since neither of ushavebeen in prison, neither of us coyld say whether or not theyre happy. but, they do get the basics, food, shelter, etc, and im not sure they deserve it.

and alot if things arent said outright, but are insinuated

My point with sharing what I believe is, surely the worry of being punished in an afterlife is only an issue if you believe in a god and/or an afterlife? I mean if you dont believe in that then death is the end and your punishment is over.

well i guess then death should be the punishment

You asked the question, she answered and then asked you the same question. I fail to see how that is starting an argument.

I think that the not deserving the basics is like the death penalty itself, a fundemental belief. I believe everyone has a right to life, and with that I believe everyone has the right to a roof over their head, food and being able to wash etc.

In your opinion.

In my opinion, life imprisonment should be the punishment for serial killers and the like.

im not here to argue, but she didnt answer the question, she turned it around on me. and as for the basics, why do the prisoners deserve the basics when theyve taken the basic right to live away from someone else?

I really don't see how she was starting an argument, turning the question was her point, the fact that none of us have been there none of us can say whether they are happy or not, it was just an educated guess that given the fact that something humans cherish i.e freedom has been taken away it makes sense that they would be unhappy.

YES because SHE (as in me smelly07) was making a point - everyone else seem to understand that...........maybe you should read back through the last few pages.

Yes I believe they do. I dont think taking away those basic things will make things better for the victim or their family. I dont believe in an eye for an eye, so they took something away and therefore we must too. Nor do I think it would be right to deny people those basic things, surely denying them is paramount to abuse and therefore makes the state no better than the criminal?

and as you can see i stated the same thing

You did, but the first statement was unfair because smelly was making a point not trying to start an argument.

well, since someof you are deciding to gang up on me, ill go for now. i know its hard to see the other side of the coin, but there are different view points, and ide appreciate the right to express mine without feeling ganged up on. until next time......

I am sorry you feel that way, I dont feel it was ganging up. It really isnt anything to do with which way you fall on the argument but rather you accused smelly of starting an argument, when she clearly wasnt.

This is a difficult question. In theory a life sentence should mean life. Someone who has murdered someone should not be allowed back on the streets. Tbh who would want to employ a murderer? I think majority of them live on state benefit.

But.. If my any of my close family was a victim of a murderer, my views could easily change. I think the sytem is wrong is someone has been given a life sentence and then is released in 17 years. The person gets his freedom back yet the poor victim and family are suffering.

I haven't read the other responses, but I firmly believe that nobody has the right to take another person's life, even if it be in the name of justice. Only God can do that.

For those of you who feel the death penalty is justified, could you physically flip that switch for the electric chair, or administer that lethal injection, knowing that the end result would be death? If you couldn't do it yourself, then how can you expect someone else to do it?
