ok im due to go back to work in 3weeks and my work have still not give me an answer on wether i can work part time or not, i rang today and im being told i would have an answer by the end of next week, giving me 2weeks to sort out nursery for my little girl and wether i have a job or not!!!
there is no way in heavens im prepared to go back to work full time, not only will i be fiancely worse off, most importantly i am not prepared to throw my little girl into childcare all week then in the 2 free days at the weekend try juggle housework and quality time with her. so this is not an option.

and when i rang back to get advice from my line manager she said the head was getting advice on what she can and cant offer me. so i think she will be dragging this to the end and forcing me to go back full time. which i wont be doing.

so first off has anyone dealt with similar things when trying to go back to work? what rights do i have. and then most importantly, if i dont have a job so to say what benefits will i be entitled to? will i survive?

I gave up my job after mat leave. I know people will give me stick but my only focus now is my son. I will b e going back to work when hes in full time school(3-4 years). I claim benefits at the moment. I get child benefit and child tax benefit. I also get income support. Its not alot but enough to live on. Im a homebody though and love being with my son so I dont mind being at home but if you feel you need to work you should be able to do it part time if the company wont allow it maybe try and fine another part time job somewhere else? x

thank you, iv worked out all the finance and i wont be able to give up work, my bills alone come to around 900 and thats roughly what i would recieve before things like food, nappies and clothing come into it. :(

Hi,

I havent got a answer as not a mummy just yet, but somehow came across this, if i was you i would call the citizens advice bureau? if you are in the UK, and ask them for legal advice.
It is very unfair what they are doing to do, and a lot of mothers go back to work part time, so they should of been expecting this a long time ago.

hope you get the right advice and answer xx

i rang acas yesterday to get advice. and what they are doing is ok apparently. i put my forms in 5weeks ago, they have to discuss this within 4weeks which they done then they have 2weeks to give me an answer which by the end of next week is 2weeks on the dot. so i just have to wait it out

thanks for your reply

I gave up my job after mat leave too. I went back for 2-3 weeks and quit, i was workin 9-5 leavin ma daughter at nursery 8-6 then gettin home at 630 and hvin to cook bath time and bath i actually felt like i spent no time with her

We now recieve
20.30 housing benefit
62.00 child tax
65.00 income support
And full housing benefit

thanks , i done alot of research and rang gingerbread. but i know i wont be able to live of the benefits i would recieve as my bills alone come to the amount i would recieve before food, petrol clothing etc. so i would have to go back full time :(
