Smoking??

I used to smoke but gave up when we started trying to get pregnant. I LOVED smoking to be honest! However, I'm really glad I gave up and found it easier to quit because I had a reason to quit. I definitely wouldn't go back on them now... not after this length of time.

Alcohol on the other hand... I've never been a BIG drinker, and didn't go out on a regular basis or anything - i'd drink say once a month. I could never handle my booze and would get drunk very easily. Since having Harry, and mainly because i'm breastfeeding, i've only had 1 small glass of wine and half a bottle of beer. I'm really looking forward to having a good drink when Harry starts having more FFs.

I was a smoker and stopped when i must have been about 3 weeks pregnant, it was the same with my first pregnancy I just couldn't stand it!

i did go back to it the first time after I had my first daughter, but haven't gone back to it this time.

The craving never goes away though, I still want one after I've had my dinner and if I am stressed or out drinking, but the smell off other people puts me off, oh and the cost of it!

Dont take this the wrong way... but my Dad smoked and died of a heartattack because of smoking when I was about 5...

Is it really worth the risk of not seeing your babies grow up?

And bfing moms who say they like the fact the bfing helps prevent breast cancer... Why go back to smoking when smoking causes cancer?

I know its an addiction and its hard... you have to have the proper will to do it.

Well done to all you ladies who gave up when you were pregnant, I can't imagine how hard it must be. If you're looking for a bit of extra incentive to give up for good then this is a thought-provoking article I came across the other day.

Warning over 'third-hand smoke'

THANK GOD!!!! Lol!!!

Yep Im the same.... Im smoking again!! I quit when I found out I was preg, the smoked when I went out and now I smoke at work at things!! Never around courtney of course!! Really annoyed with myself and I really want to quit again!!

i gave up smoking when i found out i was pregnant with the baby i lost before Riley, & although its early days i havent gone back yet.. but its hard when OH & his family do...

Can i ask a question here, please don't take this the wrong way please.

You have given up because of you have found out your pregnant but why go back to it???

when I was pregnant there was a big big reason why not to smoke, now Im not pregnant and if I go out for a drink or a tea at work its just something you can easily slip back into the habit off! I enjoy smoking! Thats all I can say!!

I agree.... the health risks scare me... oh and the cost...!!

But I dont think the little amount I smoke will do a great deal of harm and I do not plan to smoke for ever...!!

I NEVER EVER smoke round courtney so this isnt something that worries me!!

You shouldnt even wear clothing that you have had on while smoking... it carries harmful chemicals... same with your vehicle, if youve ever smoked in it, the chemicals are still there... If youve smoked in your house, the chemicals remain unless you paint of re-wallpaper/

My oh smokes, outside only... But I am really trying to get after him to quit. I hate the thought of all what I just said above. Alot of our house is being re-painted etc though now.

Plus im so afraid he will die, or end up with a trache.... They are the most nasty things ever... I cant understand how nurses can still smoke after having to care for a patient who has a trache... Especially when alot of them are only in their 40s!!!

I used to smoke before I was pregnant. I didn't smoke when I was pregnant. Although I had a pack of 10 right at the end, ( I just fancied some ) I have never been addicted. ( No-one believes me on this ) But I have give up cigs easy peasy before. I just enjoy smoking? Lol. I could give them up tommorrow and it wouldn't bother me. But I aint doing because I enjoy it. I smoke in the kitchen, NEVER around Lexie. My mum does the same :)

Is the kitchen attached to your house? I was just wondering, dont mean to upset you or anything but if you are smoking inside your house you ARE smoking around her. OH's mother smoked in her room when we lived with her, our room (where I made Colton stay because I hoped it would keep him away from it) was completely on the other side of her house and it gave Colton bronchitis by the time he was 2 months old.
I will NEVER have someone even smoke in the same house as my child, one of the reasons he never goes to see his grandma or great grandparents on OH's side.. we moved out of his mothers house because even after he got sick at 2 months old she said she wouldn't quit smoking around him :( Her choice, and it was her house so we moved out.

I've never smoked, but have always lived with smokers. My mother smoked during her pregnancies (she has four children) and around all of us; and only one of us has asthma (my brother stopped breathing when he was 6.. thats how she found out). My grandma on my dad's side died of lung cancer.
The chemicals from cigs stay on your clothes and hands for up to an hour after your last puff. And whats on your clothes is the second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is ALOT worse than even when you smoke it because it's the stuff your body didn't want. If you hold your child without changing your clothes & washing your hands than your child is breathing that in, and whether you want to believe it or not that is hurting your child.

I'm so glad they are passing the no smoking laws in the US. Here we already cannot smoke in any public buildings whatsoever, and they are passing laws so that people cannot smoke in a vehicle with anyone under the age of 18. I know alot of people who are pissed off about it. But I feel it's best for the younger generation who cannot speak up for themselves yet.

OH's mother is the only one who smokes, i never let her smoke near Daisy and hate the smell that comes off her and hate if i ever have to go to her house cos it smells of stale smoke.

I also suspect Daisy does too, she always cries to get back to me when she picks her up after she has been smoking.

They say there is nothing worse than an ex-smoker  I think I am one of those annoying ex-smokers with a super sensitive nose!

I went cold turkey for 2.5 years and started smoking again this week. :dohh:

They're trying to do this here too, I think its excellent.

I've never smoked in my life and nobody in my house smokes. My grandmother smokes like 3 packs a day and I cringe when she picks Renah up. I wouldn't even go in her house when I was pregnant...she lives 2 houses away and Renah hasn't been inside her house yet

OH's mother smokes 2-2.5 packs a day! She is our neighbor. So are OH's grandparents. I can see both of their houses from my front door. Colton never goes to either of their houses. My mother lives 20 minutes away and sees Colton more than they do!
OH smokes, but I've never let him smoke in our house. EVER. And I wont even sit by him if I can smell it on him, it grosses me out.

I feel I should point out that I have one a day, outside and I disinfect my hands, shower and change my clothes afterwards.

I am totally anal about Niamh smelling smoke though.

umm... I hope you do realize since you bf, that niahm is getting the chemicals through you... whatever you ingest, she ingests, bfing does not cancel out bad chemicals.... and a smoker who is bfing increases the risk of SIDS

I haven't been BFing recently for a few reasons. I'd never smoke and BF.
