Smoking??

agreed, no one asked for opinions it was a valid question for smokers or ex smokers not ANTI smokers if anyone has a problem with the things people do they should be kept to them selfs no one needs to be made to feel like a bad parent just because not every one agrees with the way they do things!

I smoked before having Liv but stopped th day I found out I was pregnant, I managed to stop until I went about at xmas and it has been a downward slope since then! I try and only do it when I am not with Liv and would NEVER smoke in front of her - really want to stop but can't see it happening now! x

I smoked in college (helped with the stress) but stopped as soon as I found out I was PG. Sometimes I'm just dying for one, but I refuse to have one if I'm going back inside right away, as the toxins cling to your clothes even if you smoke outside, when you go back in you bring those toxins in (I rarely have a cig anymore so I put my clothes right into the wash if I have one). They have recently discovered 3rd hand smoke, which is toxins from cigarettes that are in clothes, carpets, furniture, etc. that stay there after you've stopped smoking and continue to release those toxins. I'm not saying this because I think everyone should stop smoking, just to let you know that if you used to smoke inside, but now only smoke outside, or stopped all together, it's important to get your carpets and furniture cleaned as 3rd hand smoke is very dangerous. Also clean and repaint the walls as it also is stuck to them. If you want more info, here's an article on it that explains it better: https://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/03/health/research/03smoke.html

Gosh, I didn't fully read this thread before posting, just gone back over it and am a little surprised tbh!

Lots of people have suffered lots of different things in their lives but that gives NO-ONE the right to make people feel bad for decisions they make as adults.

I am sure you girls who are anti smoking have those opinions for personal reasons to yourself but thats what they are - personal. Its not right to make people like myself or Leeds or Ema any of the other girls who either just like a smoke or are really addicted feel like bad mums. I know how bad smoking is for my health but its something I enjoy to do and a decision I make in my capacity of being an adult! In a world where you can barely step out of your front door before being told something is bad for you or you are doing something wrong - smoking, drinking, eating ANYTHING tasty (!) I have always found this site a refreshing blast of down to earth ladies who have some flaws and are not ashamed to talk about it and more importantly CAN talk about it WITHOUT being judged - this thread has made me feel a little differently. x

I'm sure no one is trying to make you feel bad, we are just making sure everyone is well aware of the facts behind smoking. Like the lady who said she wasn't going to BF because she wants to go back to smoking.. what if she had smoked and BF had she not read this thread? Even if one person learns something new than I'm sorry if I made anyone who knew those things feel bad but thats one baby who wont have to be unwillingly taking in the effects of cigarrette smoke. And like I said before, I know you are an adult.. we are all adults here.. what you do is your decision, we just want to make sure that the people who might not know things(like the example above) DO know and make sure to keep their children safe and away from such things.

i really dont think any one needs to be "made aware" of the facts when it comes to smoking every one is reminded of it day in day out in more than one form, and people certianly dont need to be told over and over again you feel bad enuff with out beeing told! i know my self when i smoked i knew it was bad but when your addicted it doesnt matter, as i said time and place for lectures and this thread wasnt it!

So you dont think it's good that that woman found out smoking would go through her BM into her child? Something that she didn't know previously? I figured even smokers would agree that it's good she knows that considering she said she knew she would start smoking again after having LO.

Ok I admit I'm anti smoking, always have been and I hate the fact my OH smokes, BUT I can't make him stop, he has to stop for himself and I just hope one day he will. He smokes 15 a day but never in the house. I agree it'll be on his clothes but I'm sure it's alot worse smoking around your kids so I feel he does enough in that way by not smoking around them.

As for all the posts to this thread, everyone that admits to smoking arn't doing it around their kids and mostly do it when going out or with a drink. They don't need to be attacked for that. I don't judge them at all. I know it's an addiction x

Zara I'm sorry but you're being so, SO pushy here.

This is a thread just like any other thread and whoever wants to post is allowed to. Its only a lecture when you don't like what's being said. Every single person on here is allowed to voice their opinion on whatever thread they want. If you have an issue then why are you still on here reading if it makes you feel guilty? NOBODY has come out and called ANYONE a bad mother for smoking. You're adults. If you want to smoke that is completely up to you. But god damn, to come out and say that "this was strictly for ex smokers NOT non-smokers"? Where do you get off saying that exactly? If you don't like someone's opinion then pay no mind to it.

ALSO, Ryder isn't even HOME right now and you're all practically attacking her. At least give the girl a chance to defend herself.

Sorry Ema that your thread turned out like this, it was purely innocent I'm sure.

Wobbles should make you a moderator! :muaha:

I stopped smoking when I was pregnant because it got me so sick to my stomach , Then once I hit 6 months I had 1 per day as the job I worked it was way too stressful to not have one ..(only smokers understand this one) ..I stopped while I breastfed my son so for 5 months after ..

And now I only smoke when im out with friends and my son is not around me.

I am anti-smoking as well. I'm quite harsh with smokers. My grand-father use to be a heavy smoker and he now has cancer, this is gonna sounds really bad, but I think it's his fault and I have no compassion for him what so ever. He was fully aware of the dangers of smoking, but always said he wouldn't get cancer as he's a strong man (ugh.)

I never let anyone smoke near me, and will never let anyone smoke near Joshua either. I chose to live a healthy life and I don't want anyone to force something on me that I chose not to do.

Sorry for you smokers out there if it sounds harsh, don't take it personal.

Again, the thread was about did you smoke before bubs, have you started since. Yes or no answer. Expand a little maybe.

It was not "are you for or against smoking and make me aware of what might happen if I smoke". Sitting and making someone feel bad for smoking is EXTREMELY pushy, and far more pushy than Zara. Who IMO has not come across like that at all.

For goodness sake girls, we're all entitled to our opinions but I think Im right in saying thats not why this thread was here, Im sure Ema didnt want people arguing and shoving each others opinions down their throats when she made it.

The smoking or not smoking thing as been around for so long , and yes sometimes there pushy about it ..Who ever chooses to smoke is well aware of the consequences later in life ..I lost my uncle to lung cancer and hence why I will only smoke if im drinking which is max 1 time in 3 months ..even thought it takes only once to get cancer its my problem if I do ..

BUT that being said its the persons responsibility not to smoke in front or near there child as there lungs are so pure ..My husband has allergies and since the day I met him I smoked outside of the house (before i was pregnant) and still do now if im out but as I said before my son has never been exposed to smoke or second or third hand smoke as when i come back home from being out i change clothes put them to wash and take a shower .

Before my comment? What comment. I dont know when I was being pushy? I plainly said MULTIPLE times that I DO NOT CARE IF YOU SMOKE, I DONT! PROMISE! What I stated were facts, and like I said I dont care who gets mad anymore because if those facts help one baby than I AM HAPPPY!! :D I'm not saying "Oh dont smoke, dont smoke, dont smoke" I said, if you choose to smoke thats your choice, I'm an adult and I can choose to walk away from a smoker and not be harmed by the smoke.
I said before, I dont take stating those facts back and I'm not sorry I did because that one lady that wont send cig effects through to her baby satisfies me. I dont see how a smoker and nonsmoker could disagree that thats a good thing?!

I agree with coltons mom on this one , she has the right to state facts that may help even one baby ..as word gets around and more and more babies will be helped ..

Its like the new law that passed in BC Canada " no person (s) may smoke in the car with a child under the age of 16" this law will soon be like that everywhere ..it gest me so angry when I see people smoking in the car with there baby in the carseat , window down thinkin it will not effect the baby ..IT WILL

Come on now ladies lets not find yet another thing to argue with eachother about.

Each to their own, smoke or dont smoke ... it doesnt mean you want any more or any less for your children.

Smoking doesnt make you a bad parent ... end of :)
