solids?

6 months. We went through a 50oz a day phase also Aliss, it was expensive, but luckily for us it didn't go on for long...

Can I ask how long it lasted? Mine has been doing this for several weeks and TBH the weaning as not changed anything, he still consumes the same!

Just over a month I think. Between 3.5 and 5 months. We were told it was ok for her to have that much. (I think there is actually a lot of evidence to suggest solids make no difference because first weaning foods are typically very low calorie anyway, someone posted an interesting article a while back but I can't remember who! Might have been mommyof3co)

Imogen was exactly the same as this and at about the same itme. She was pretty big too and often had upto 15oz per feed. When she was hungry I just gave her milk and started to weaned her at 6 months with BLW :flower:

Bryson was a tablespoon of rice cereal a day at 3.5 months and by 4 months was having a jar of fruit in the morning and a jar of veggie in the evening. At 6 months he was having 3 meals a day and around 9 months he started having finger foods.

6 months at the least. But as he was 6 weeks ealy, he will be 7 and a half months before i let him have anything, and even then we will be doing BLW.

6 months, BLW
Best thing ever, he's now 13 months and eats everything.

in 2 weeks time for us as nicole is guzzling 50 - 60oz in 24 hrs, wakes twice for bottles at nite and drains them (5-6oz a bottle). hn and gp said i have too as nicole is taking way too much formula, her bro was the same

I've started giving him rice, oatmeal & stage 1 Gerber foods, but I haven't done it everyday, I do it a few times a week. I'll make it more regular when he's six months. We've been doing it on and off since he was 3.5 months. :flower:

She is having some baby rice now once a day and a bit of porridge in the morning. She sits there with her mouth open waiting for it and holds her spoon. I dont want her eating 'proper' foods though for at least another month.

Madeline went off her milk at about 4 months old - was only taking 4/5oz at each feed. She was also waking at night starving hungry - so I knew it was the right time for her to start having some solids. So at 19 weeks I started her on baby rice at tea time. The week after she was having porridge at breakfast time and baby rice. Now, at 23 weeks, she is on 3 meals a day. I still offer her 4 bottles a day, but she rarely takes more than 5oz at each one, and never more than 7oz. She just seemed to go right off her milk.
Her usual day goes:
6-8am - bottle (between 4-7oz)
9am - baby porridge (a good 6 teaspoons mixed with water)
noon - bottle (4-5 oz)
Tub of homemade, pureed veg
3pm - bottle (4-5oz)
5pm - tub of homemade, pureed veg
Jar of baby pudding
7pm - bottle (3-4oz)

I sometimes top her up with a few oz of milk before we go to bed too, depending on how much milk she has had in the day.

We haven't looked back since we started, and went quickly from just having baby rice at tea time to three meals a day. She took to feeding from a spoon straight away and is now much more contented and sleeps so much better.

I think every single baby is different and there are no hard and fast rules. Some babies are ready for something extra at 14-15 weeks - others may be over 25 weeks old. You will know when the time is right for your LO.

I was going to start at 5 and half months but my mother decided to stick him on mushed up rusk!!! i hated the fact that she put him on it at 3 an half months!!! Peed me off to the max but LO actually seemed better more for it as when he was just on bottles he seemed groggy an not just filled so mother gave him that i decided to start him on small breakfast like baby rice or baby porridge an he seemed more relax with me if he didnt have any sort of breakfast christ youd know he hasnt had anything with me lol. so was guna be 5 months but he started earliy :( my boy growing so quickly boo hoo lol x

I don't know, just whenever I feel he is ready. If he'll wait until 6 months then great, if he needs it before then I'll do it. As far as I'm concerned the guidelines are there as a guide, I'll go by my baby :)
