People keep saying to me "Shouldn't you be moving her onto stage 2 milk now that she drinks more?" and I keep getting pestered because I still have her on stage 1.

She is only four weeks.. Should I really be switching her milk?

No! Very few babies actually need stage 2 (hungry baby milk) at all. Its main purpose is to satisfy an older baby (eg 3 months +) big appetite to avoid early weaning. If your baby was taking 8oz+ every 2 hours or less day and night then hungry baby would help by making baby feel full and avoid over eating. Hungry baby milk has the same calorie and fat content as first milk, but its just harder for them to digest and stays in their stomachs longer, hence making them feel full for longer. xxx

Ah I see. Well I definitely don't want to avoid early weaning as I have to wean her at 4 months due to her cleft and having to have an op at 6 months.

I only switched to stage 2 milk when she was absolutely draining the snot out of 9 oz bottles at 4 months and then screeching at me for more very very soon after. It slowed down the hungries to a sustainable level so we could defer solids a little bit longer - which is what it's really intended for.

We only changed as LO was feeding every hour and bringing it up, we changed over at 11 weeks

over here the only difference between stage one and two is that they increase the iron in stage 2. A couple of mums i know decided to stay on stage one- i moved to stage 2 with no difference in sleeping or eating patterns.
