Hi,
I've been trying to get Erin to use a cup recently and she seems to be getting the hang of it slowly but just wondered, do I need to sterilise the cup and how the heck do I put it back together again without touching it all!
She sometimes has very dilute prune juice (to help with constipation poor thing) and I make that with frozen cubes and boiling water but if I give her water I need to boil it first don't I? Would it be ok to use another bottle to keep the water in and fill up the cup during the day? :flower:

Not sure about the sterilising except washing your hands thoroughly..

I Use a bottle to keep the water in then top up when needed

When P was around the same age I would boil a kettle full of water at night, and put it in a glass water bottle in the fridge afterwards and use that the following day.
Wouldn't worry about steralising the sippy cups, bottles and things that contain milk need to be steralised as the milk can grow bacteria, but a hot soapy wash of the sippy cup will be enough if its just got water/diluted juice in it.

i bought one of those canister/flask things that you may see at meetings that people would 'pump' tea and coffee from- you can get it in argos for £25 and it has been a god send to us. we boil the kettle and fill the canister with the boiled water- the water stays hot all day long- not boiling but hot enough to make bottles and for drinking from sippy cups, the electric kettle uses more electric than any other appliance in your home.

I know what you mean about sippy cups- how are you meant to put it all together without touching. I wouldnt worry as said before as long as milk hasn't been in it.

I think new regulations state that babies 6months and over can have water from the tap but I am planning on using my big flask/canister for drinks as long as possible it is sooo handy- esp in those early days when you had to get up for night feeds!

Pixie is going to start getting her milk from a sippy cup and what i plan on doing is just washing the cup then rinsing it with boiling water :)

bottle for bedtime only now - argh! she's still getting at least 20oz milk so it's fine :)

I used to boil water and keep it in a spare bottle and use in the day.

As long as ur hands are clean I wouldnt worry about touching the teat etc.

I used to only steralise the teat every other day, just make sure its washed well at end of day and rinse in really hot water.

Since Eva reached about 7 months I dont bother steralising it daily just do it once a week and just use tap water now which is fine.
