Stop been so cheap!

I don't think we have it bad at all - in fact I don't know of any other countries that get significantly more scans for free?

They may get more in the US, but it's all paid for privately. My SIL got one every check up she has and I think they are at least every 2 weeks - I admit i'm a bit jealous but not enough to waste my money.

We can have more in the Uk if we want to pay!

Also the people who say we pay more than we get for the NHS is a totally selfish way to look at things. It costs £225 per day per bed on average for a patient to stay in hospital.

its this i should get more for doing nothing mentality that got the tories back in power people need to shake up their attitudes and be more appreciative

And thats just per bed - also to be taken into consideration - staff costs, electric, heating, water, tests are expensive, staff to do those tests, equipment used, supplies used..the list is almost endless when monetising patient care.

I have to say that I'm really really happy with the care that I've received from the NHS during my pregnancy, although I appreciate that my mw has been fab whereas other people don't seem to have received the same level of care and interest. I'll have a third scan at 36 weeks as my placenta was lying low at 1cm when I had my 20 week scan, but would have been more than happy just to have the one scan.

Yep. A few months ago a patient was ready to be discharged and his wife said she didn't want him to be discharged til 2 days later cos she had a bowling competition  wtf?

I think if there is no medical need, you should pay for your own scans if you want more.

We are lucky to be able to have our babies health and welbeing checked at the 20 week scan and to know all is well. Pregnancy is a natural process and no amount of scans is going to change the speed at which baby grows. I have found midwives to be very good an if they thought a scan was needed they would be the ones to say so xx

Thats awful. Some patients are desperate for a bed/treatment xx

And £1000 a night for a bed on Intensive Care. Significantly more than that for the little ones in the Neonatal unit.
In fact, neonatal intensive care is one of the most expensive places in the hospital due to the number of staff per baby and the equipment. I'd much rather money was spent there than on an extra scan or two during pregnancy.

That's just awful on so many levels xx

Especially in our ward as we're a geriatric ortho rehab ward so patients are often in for a long time and we have a lonnnng waiting list.

& Yes, funny that at christmas time the NHS is overwhelmed with old people :growlmad:

Yeah, it's kinda counterproductive if we did get more scans anyway.

'Yeah we can find out if something is wrong earlier but theres no money to help your baby anyway as we cant afford the staff or equipment'

:growlmad: It's disgusting, but part and parcel of the way people treat the NHS, with it's limitless funds and the growing sense of entitlement that people have towards healthcare. The people who are most grateful for the care they recieve seem to be the ones who were there at the beginning or brought up in the generation afterwards as a rule.
A lot of the generation who've always had the NHS as a safety net are the ones who abuse it. (Not a dig at the OP, but a general observation based on the comments highlighted in this post.)

I think it is clear that some people have never had to really rely on the NHS for treatment

Re the old folk. You can;t help but feel sorry for them though, and for trying it on, but probably in their eyes they're not trying it on. They probably feel alone and frightened that there's no one to look after them, it is a cold time of year also. What are the stats on oldies dying at that time of year? The care has to come from somewhere...and it isnt, I can understand why they turn to our NHS. But of course we know the NHS can't cope with that.

I don't agree with that tbh. Older people have a sense of entitlement usually worse than the younger ones! If I had a pound for everytime I heard 'I paid my taxes all my life' I'd be a millionaire  Its usually over something stupid like pad and pants stashing

I'm not sure but pretty high I'd of thought. Its different a lonely old man making up chest pain or something cos he didnt want to be alone over christmas (still not good but understandable). What we are talking about is the relatives who send their grandmas and grandads to hospital cos they dont want to deal with them over the festive period :growlmad:
