A friend of mine who is 24 weeks along posted a status this morning that said she was drinking a sugar free redbull. I know caffeine is "okay" in small amounts.. I was told under 200mg a day is fine. But I have ALWAYS heard energy drinks are NOT okay at all, no matter the caffeine content. I talked to my friend about it and she said her doctor told her that it would be okay to drink one sugar free red bull every day! I can't imagine that being okay, or a doctor saying that but I've also never done this before so I have no idea!

What's everyone else heard?!

I haven't heard anything about the sugar levels it's just the caffiene but I can't understand how people just can't do without a red bull for 9 months :-s but each to their own I suppose x

i know i love redbull!!! its because the caffiene is just too high and were only supposed to have soo much caffiene a day :growlmad:

im not sure if it is ok but personally i wouldnt dream about it the caffeine level is really high sugar free or not and its got taurine in too which isnt great but thats just my opinion xx

I just looked it up and there are only 80mg of caffeine in a small can of red bull.. that's about the same as a cup of coffee... :/
I'm sure having one every now and then would be fine, but I'm just worried about my friend having one EVERY DAY!!! Apparently she's been drinking them since she found out.

Bleugh, may aswell drink rat poison

yeah the caffiene content is the same as a cup of coffee but you got to look at taurine to as that is like double whammy hun, yeah just tell your friend to be careful hun and not have too many xxxx

I have told her over and over, but "I'm not her doctor" and her doctor "told her it was okay".

:( Oh well.. I guess there isn't much else I can do to stop her, might as well not stress about it..

i hate red bull makes me wanna puke even the smell is nasty even when not preg makes me wanna puke any energy drink does lol

i love red bull and before i was pregnant i loved to drink sugar free redbull. I also heared energy drinks are a big no no so ive stayed away! i would love to have one though but im keeping away x

I don't like red bull BUT I do like a drink we have at coffee shops around here called a red bull blast... It has like 1/4 can of red bull and then passionfruit and strawberry flavoring and something else but I can't remember.. they're reeeeally good. I've been craving them since I've been expecting, but my doctor told me no energy drinks! I've just been making my own at home, using 7up instead of redbull. Not as good, but pretty close :)

i admit to having a sip of it every now and then when OH has his. but you would hate me if you knew that during my first pregnancy i drank Coke every single day. Living in Africa in summer there is nothing better than a Coke. :)

my sil craved coke and she asked her midwife about it and she said the reason that they advise against drinking to much caffine is because it causes low birth wieght which i have read in my pregnancy book too and considering we have big babies her first was 8.6lb and the one she drank coke with all way through with was 9lb so don't think it effected them!!! i didn't drink any caffine with my ds and he was 10lb!!!! so that is the reason the tell you to limit intake of caffine xx

i used to have a can of relentless if i had a really bad nights sleep as it helped me to get through the day but that was before i was pregnant and due to the calories in it i would make sure i ate super healthily for a couple of days after wards jsut to make sure i wasnt getting too many calories.

also a little bit of info for you friend, it actually states on all cans of any type of energy drink (it also has it on bottles of moutain dew) there is a warning on there that it is not to be consumed by pregnant or lactating women. that enough is proof enough for me that it is not safe to have whilst pregnant. if it were safe it wouldnt have that on the can!

its not just that hun, it can caused birth defects if too much is drunk during the first tri (as this is when everything is forming it can cause the body to form incorrectly or too quickly) and has been known to cause miscarriage in the first tri aswell if too much is consumed as too much energy is getting to the baby and sometimes the baby's fragile body cant cope with it.

but its only if too much caffiene is consumed that it causes low birth weights, like in excess of two litres of coke a day or something. you can have up to 4 cans of coke a day and it not be excessive. but i tend to stick to one just to be on the safe side. x

i drank coke through both pregnancys with my sons, limiting myself in first tri but not being overly careful after that and the boys came out at 9lb 10oz and 10lb 12oz so definately no weight problems lol i make sure i drink plenty of water as well and limit other caffinee sources like chocolate and tea and coffee

I drank obscene amounts of red bull before getting my BFP but I quit as soon as it was positive! I've heard caffeine will cause early miscarriages so I'm not taking any chances. I also quit drinking Dr. Pepper and quit smoking! I will have a caffeine free Coke or Dr. Pepper whenever I get the urge to have a cola.
